My son is not my current husbands bio child but we have been married since my son was 2. My son asked to go to the movies with a friend from school.. the plan was to have the child's father pick up my son and drive them to the theater. I felt instant fear! Was this white man going to take my child into the woods and kill him? Is he a gun tooting red neck? I started to sweat and felt really uncomfortable. I did let my son go eventually but I met the father who was driving the kids, took his name, phone, address and plate number. This is my life.

Paranoia this intense calls for a straitjacket.

Oh, and maybe one of you gun people can explain that gun tooting red neck thing. Is it the gun that toots, or the redneck?

So your mom has probably been in this country for 30+ yrs and still wont speak english??? That is part of the problem right there.

That is seriously my problem with immigrants.  Both sides of my family were legal immigrants who ASSIMILATED into the American culture, we are American first, German second.  Not the case now days.

ASSUMING she's for real, "fun n serious" desperately needs to get the Hades away from DU and other Lib/Prog political discussion situations and get out and about normal people in non-political contexts! Maybe find a runner/walker group at Fleet Feet or Road Runner Sports. Something that gets her out and about, among normal people not talking politics, DU-folk and other Libs/Progs are trolling and exploiting fear, especially among ethnic and religious minorities.

OK, her Dad's "white". Her husband's "white". How did she come to be afraid of "white" people when she is one and married one?

She thinks there are "gun tooting (or toting) red necks" in Lib/Prog Portland? Portland is almost like SF-on-the-Columbia! Were it not for Portland, OR would probably by a "red" state!

As for people asking her to speak English.that is really non-credible. I'm confident that I could walk about a reasonably busy mall in Portland or sit in its food court, listening to people converse around me, and hear 4 or more languages spoken in addition to English (Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Hindi, Korean, Japanese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese are possibilities that come to mind very quickly!).

I am worried about my sons every move.
Earlier this year a white classmate threatened to hurt him. This classmate has pictures on his facebook of himself and other kids sporting rifles. I contact the school, the principle said the kid was a PATRIOT exercising his 1st and 2nd amendment rights. I wonder what would have happened if the child's name was Mohahmed or Trayvon?

I took EXTRA steps because the people were white than I would have if they were Mexican or black. I have very few white friends. The white friends I do have are very liberal, mostly gay. No one in my immediate family is a conservative or republican.

Tooting used to be a slang term for snorting coke.

Maybe gun tooting is a slang term for placing the muzzle of a handgun up one's nose and pulling the trigger?
