  • Not right, but not left, either.
It's been way too long since I did one of these mashups, so for the new people, it's pretty simple-  one cartoon matched up with one post from the DUmp.  The only caveat is that ALL posts represented in the mashups have ZERO responses.  It's a nice way to highlight some of the more ridiculous posts that fly under the radar.  Just imagine the primitives as lonely and dejected as the nutcase John Arbuckle is in these cartoons, and you'll get the idea.  Here are the first two installments (although most of the cartoons appear to be missing from the first link):

Episode III is dedicated to the perpetually erect stevenumbers for his stupid post.  There's a surprise double header comic post by the insane insect primitive at the end, along with quite a few from the C&B forums.  Enjoy:

Today I want to pay tribute to all in the helping professions: therapists, counselors, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, and others I'm forgetting. One of you saved my life, I'm convinced, when I was much younger.

I'd go into detail, but because of the sociopaths on the internet and some nasty people here on DU, I will not. Anyway, thank you again to all who labor so tirelessly for not enough pay and benefits and with people's most intimate struggles. Thank you, all of you, from the bottom of my heart.

2016 Comeback player of the year? OLIVE GARDEN!
Olive Garden is 'molto bene' with diners and investors
http://money.cnn.com/2016/12/20/investing/darden-restaurants-olive-garden-earnings/index.html
.
I did not have my traditional meal there this year. My parents always went there around Christmas as to meet with old friends. A dwindling number and by the time my Mom passed, it was mher, an old friend, iris and her caregiver son A. R., Someone I knew since the fifties but i only saw at the annual Olive Garden visit. Even after my parents passed, I went once during the holidays. This year I can only eat thin soups so I didn't go. Even by myself, it was like dining with ghosts from years passed. People I knew well, my parents friends were very into my life though they were my parents friends, and it was great to put them in my thoughts again. I'll miss that.

Ya ever not wanna post anything because
You're exhausted of the fact that everyone is likely to be a knee jerk asshole to you just because it's the internet and that's how people are?

Ya ever just wanna be silent and stop existing because no matter what interaction you have with another person, you're conditioned to believe the interaction will either go badly or went badly, regardless of what happened?

**** it all. I can't say anything else, but I can say this.

Lady Luck is with me :)
So this morning... I'm driving to work, exceeding the speed limit per normal (my car is a 300zx). There's this motorcycle behind me but driving very fast. I think he's playing with me. I'm practically racing him. Then the lights come on. ****! its a policeman! He asks me some standard questions...then lets me go with a warning! WHAAAAT? I'm a lucky bastid.

THEN! I get a call from my recently associated property manager, the house I am not using is rented!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!

I am thinking I need to go to a casino or something.

Potential bad scene at the Micky D's this morning.
I work nights and I rolled into Micky D's to grab something after work at about 5:30 this morning. I had to use the bathroom so I went inside. I came out of the bathroom and saw three young guys at the counter. Two of them looked like they were okay, but the third looked like he was ****ed up out of his gourd. I mean this guy was unconscious on his feet. He had a bunch of scary looking facial tattoos as well. The scene just looked like it was going to be bad news.

I stood behind these guys while Mr. Scary was trying to order. The manager at the counter seemed pissed off and frightened at the same time. She was trying to work with the guy, but he was really messed up.

I decided to leave and go to the grocery store for some cereal instead. I didn't want to get caught up in whatever might happen at the fast food joint. As I was shopping for the cereal, it occurred to me that, minus the facial tattoos, I'd been in that guy's shoes before...on several occasions. I was young and stupid and it got me into some serious trouble a couple of times.

I hope those guys made it home okay.

I need to do, what I can do, and that is enough
Some events in life are very difficult to deal with. I try my best on any particular day. That is enough. Even if I do not think I tried enough, it is enough.... Why? Because, I did as much as I could to for that day, and then, that is enough. Yesterday is gone... But, we think we could have done more, maybe. But, on some days, we can only do, what we can do. Going back to yesterday to say, "I could have done more, and should have done more, adds more pain. I did what I could do. I cannot change the past.

Yes, I can learn, and that learning is a great gift.. I can learn from the past, and act on what I have learned in today, and that is enough too. I need to try to do the best that I can do, .today, because ... the best that I can do on any particular day .....IS ENOUGH..! I will try to act on these thoughts., but, I will do, only what I can do for today, and, I need to believe, that is enough.

Shrimp Mousse
I was rummaging in a desk drawer and found this recipe for shrimp mousse. My sister, Gail, gave it to me many years ago, I have made it many times. The card was written in ink and it is faded from being handled with wet hands (mine). After making it so many times, I no longer needed the recipe card and stuck it in the drawer. It is a great recipe and with the holidays coming up, wanted to share.

I have used frozen shelled shrimp too. Another thing, I have made it entirely in the food processor and it gets too smooth. What I like to do is to put the finished mixture in the food processor and pulse 3 or 4 times before I pour it in the mold, this makes it just right, a little smooth but still has some crunchiness in raw veggies. If you don't feel like messing with a food processor, make sure the veggies are chopped small.

Shrimp Mousse (from Gail)

1 lb raw shrimp in shell
1 lemon
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 8-oz. Package cream cheese
2 packets Knox plain gelatin
½ cup of each – chopped fine - celery, green bell pepper, green onions
1 tbs chopped parsley
1 small jar chopped pimentos- drained
1 cup mayonnaise

Cook shrimp, peel and de-vein. Squeeze juice from lemon over the peeled shrimp, then flake with fork. Set aside.

In sauce pan mix cream of mushroom soup, cream cheese and gelatin Cook on low, stirring until cream cheese is melted and gelatin is dissolved.

Add chopped ingredients and pimentos. Remove from heat and add mayonnaise and shrimp, mixing well. Pour mixture into mold that is sprayed lightly with Pam and place in refrigerator until firm.

To unmold, wipe outside of mold with hot cloth to loosen, then turn onto platter and mousse will release from mold. Serve with whole wheat crackers.

The only bean burger recipe you'll ev... oh, heck, just try the recipe !
This bean burger recipe uses eggs, so it's not vegan.

http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/recipes/really-simple-bean-burgers.html

We tried this first with black-eyed peas, which made for really tasty burgers -- wouldn't put American/Cheddar cheeze on them, but Jack cheeze might work. I did have to add a little of the liquid to get the consistency right for patties. Black beans worked great. My mom just cooked the beans and mashed them up to the right consistency, none of this one-can-only business. She used a patty mold which *really* worked better than forming them by hand. Pinto beans made for less flavorful burgers, so it's worth looking at the flavor variations in the original if you want to use those. There's some kind of glitch in the text describing the amound of olive oil used -- we just use a "squirt", which is probably less than the original called for, but works fine.

Next up for us - red beans, maybe Cajun flavored ?

OMG! I just realized! I could set up a mole over there and build up my post count by regaling them with enthralling accounts of my 10Ks and half marathons:

Tree.

Tree.

Rock.

Hill.

Rock.

Bleep! Bleep! Bleeping hill.

Tree.

A thrill a minute, no? And I could set up another mole and build up its post count responding to my first mole! Cool! Or I could have another cup of coffee.

I would recommend sorting through the stuff on the island with zero replies.  If it isn't something like a stupid picture or Youtube link, it's almost always hilarious.
