President Barack Obama's sanctions Thursday against Russia for hacking during the 2016 presidential election are "insufficient" and "more must be done," said Democratic National Committee Interim Chair Donna Brazile.
"We applaud President Obama for taking these actions in response to the Russian government-sponsored cyberattacks on the DNC, the Clinton campaign, and our free and fair elections," Brazile said in a statement. "However, more must be done."
She said the "action alone by the White House is insufficient."
"Now, it's time for President-elect [Donald] Trump and the Republican leadership in Congress to put our national security before politics and show the American people that they are serious about protecting our democracy," she added.
President Obama announced executive orders expelling 35 Russian diplomats and closing two compounds in response to Moscow's interference in the election and for harassing U.S. officials.
In response, Trump said "it's time for our country to move on to bigger and better things" — adding he was meeting with U.S. intelligence officials next week to discuss the hacking situation.
