So, one of my Lefty FB friends posted a thread today about the Eeeevil Trumptator possibly instituting registries of Muslims, and by extension aliens, LGBT/BLT and everything else. She and her like-minded commenters are all full of how (a) they as White women are also all victims, (b) how it's all evil White privilege to say 'Get over it' or 'Unite,' (c) how they should either help those affected by signing up themselves, or helping the affected groups not sign up, and (d) Resist!!!
Well, I've been biting my tongue rather than try to politely explain how stupid the whole thing is, but I need to vent:
First, I'm sure, being Democrats, they will never make the obvious connection as to why they get the fish-eye from gun owners every time they start talking about universal background checks (Which give the buyer's name, SSAN, and gun serial number directly to the FBI, not just clear the transfer of an unspecified gun or guns) or universal registration, and how these measures are just 'Common sense gun safety proposals.'
Second, more broadly, maybe pervasive and total Federal control of things ain't such a damn' great idea after all, eh?
Third, I don't think there are any serious policy proposals about doing this beyond the current immigration databases and terror-watch/no-fly lists (Neglected and disused as the immigration databases may have been for the past few years). One guy peripherally involved with Trump was reported to have said something about it regarding Muslims, nobody backing it has been named to a position with any power to implement it. Everything else I've heard goes back to panic-button Lefty posts and simply using immigration controls that already exist.
Fourth and final, to paraphrase Yakov Smirnov, "You don't sign up for list, list signs you up."
