An electoral college primer for lurking DUmmies

I'll try to use small words and sentences so you can stay with me.

We are a Republic, NOT a democracy. That means, we elect representatives to protect us from ourselves. I'll explain down below.

It also means there is NO national election for President, rather, there are 50 different elections (1 per state) plus the District of Columbia. Ergo, the popular vote of the entire country doesn't matter. 50 different elections matter.

Look at it this way, IF most votes wins. The Cubs are playing the Indians in the World Series. The series is FIXED at 7 games, with the team scoring the most runs (votes) wins regardless how many games (states) are won. Cleveland wins the first game 10-0 (votes), but lose the next 6 1-0 (votes). Cleveland lost 6 of 7 games (states), but outscored the Cubs 10-6 (votes). Based on runs scored (popular vote), even though the Indians lost 6 of 7 games (states), they should be the champs, right? Which is it dummies? Games won (states) or total runs (votes)?

The winner of the state is then awarded the appropriate number of electoral votes for that particular state. The less populous states now have a vote in the election. It might only be 3 electoral votes, or it could be 55. Each state has an equal say relative to population.

Now, to get what I was going to say in reference to my paragraph 1, let's say there is a vote in South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana to bring back slavery. The popular vote says yes, bring it back by a margin of 3-1. Our elected representatives say that's ridiculous and vote against the measure, over-riding the will of the people.

Which is it DUmmies? Does the popular vote win that, or does the elected representatives shooting it down win?

Democracy in its purest form is inherently bad. It's why we're a Republic.

Lesson over. Now run for your safe space, grab a coloring book, a nice stuffed animal, put on your diaper pin and some soft, soothing music.

I'll see you in the real world.
Liberals disgust me. (Now I don't have to remember to put it on each post).

Because only the left goes searching for that which is not there in a desperate attempt to be offended about something.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Many people do not see evil until the gas is flowing into the chamber. That is why they get on the trains in the first place.

But Dear Leader got 150% of the vote!!!!

The EC stuff they are blatting about is just their normal stupid.
What is striking is how many of them have the vapors regarding Congressional total vote totals while seeming to have no grasp of what those elections actually are.

It's always whichever outcome gives them the win.  The ends justify the means.

The libs never give up. The current meme, from the MSM, is that the GOP needs to work with the dems. **** the dems. They lost. It was their attitude back in 2008.  They started this shit and if the GOP congress don't finish it then it is time to get some GOP congress critters with some nads.  Change the senate rules to simple majority and get the shit done.  The dems pretty much did the same thing breaking precedent so do it and when the MSM cries foul go on all the talk shows and tell these pukes that you started it.

Personally I really don't like doing that in the senate... come back to bite us in the ass... but the dems started it and will give no quarter so why the hell should we?  They would do it in a heart beat and they need to be taught a lesson. You started it you arrogant butt munches, now sleep in the bed you made.

To paraphrase obumbles: You can come along for the ride but you got to sit in the back.

Here is where you dems sit now:

Enjoy the ride, dummies.

Lesson from upstate New York.

New York state didn't get a lot of attention because the outcome was never in doubt. However, there's something to be learned in the difference between Clinton's numbers vs Chuck Schumer's. Keep in mind, Clinton back in 2006 won the entire state and was very popular in upstate New York.

In 2016, Clinton's entire margin of victory statewide came from 4 NYC boroughs: Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan. Across the rest of the state it was pretty much a dead heat.

Clinton won a total of 16 counties. Trump won 46.

In 2016, Chuck Schumer won 55 counties. His Republican opponent won 7.

Schumer's margin of victory statewide was over twice as big as Clinton's.

Look at the two maps:

Clinton-Trump:

http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/new-york

Schumer-Long:

http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/new-york-senate-schumer-long

There are a number of significant differences, but the big one is pretty inescapable--Schumer has maintained a connection to the voters in upstate New York that Clinton lost on her way to being a national politician.

If you want another comparison, look at how Barack Obama did in NY State in 2012:

http://elections.nytimes.com/2012/results/states/new-york

Obama won 37 counties to 25 for Mitt Romney.

21 counties flipped from Obama to Trump.

In a state Hillary won with 67% of the vote in 2006.

From one of the links.

Quote
   Hillary Clinton    Democrat  4,143,874 58.8%   29

    Donald J. Trump    Republican  2,640,570 37.5

A difference of 1.5 million votes which notwithstanding the issue of illegals is more then what is claimed to be her popular vote lead nationwide.

This is why the founders saw a need for the EC.
