Why do all these "militias" train in the woods?

I was just reading a story in the Atlanta paper about a militia group training for "next week" in the woods. Do they think the revenooers are coming for their encampments like they did for the old moonshine stills? Where do you find the woods to fight in? Near the White House? Near the Capitol building? Just where do their fantasies see this fight for control of the government is going to take place?

First off, most of those militias don't plan on marching on DC, they are planing to defend their homes and counties from teh Government coming to take away their freedom, hence training rural settings. Second, it's easier to train small unit tactics in an open area as well as conduct marksman training (i.e. shooting guns) and other normal military style training. Third, if a bunch of militia types did urban training then every leftist ***** in 100 miles would call 911.

Of course successful guerilla movements have popular support. Aside from one or two books, I think these idiots have no clue about how much firepower they would face from our military.

Whenever one of those moron groups sets up an armed stand-off against the "evil" federal government and it's fascist-communist(huh??) leadership all I can think of is that if their beliefs were true they would be in for a world of hurt. If I actually were a fascist-communist-new world order dictator, I would do either one of two things after surrounding them : get some artillery and pound the crap out of them(relatively cheap) or have a few dozen B-52's carpet bomb them (much more expensive) either way the "patriots" would most likely die without firing a shot.

Why does the US Army train in the open countryside? To bring an element of realism into their training? To minimize risk to civilians? To practice gun use and marksmanship in safer locations?

It's funny how many DU-folk let their hatred and contempt blind them to things that are grossly obvious. Not surprising, just amusing.
