How the Republican Party became a cult ?


Some may argue that it began with Ronald Reagan? After his death, he was immortalized as some sort of virtuous conservative. But that did not conform with the reality.

Gradually they became more and more radicalized until the birth of the Tea Party. It was then that most Republicans accepted their Party ideology as almost sacred and not open to any type of dispute, i.e., lower taxes would bring more money into the Treasury and God was on their side and against the godless liberals. It was almost like a religion, in that they could never see themselves voting against the Republican Party.

But then, along came Donald Trump. He was a Republican but, unlike the others, he was a winner. They finally had a chance to take back the White House. It did not matter what he said or what he did, their support was solid and steadfast. It did not matter how insane his words and actions. Their only other option was Hillary Clinton and she was a liberal. That was no option at all.

But, by then, they had all drank the kool aid. It did not matter if their leader might be a threat to our beloved country. They were loyal to their Party. They could not leave and they would not leave. Even though they knew he was terribly wrong, and even dangerous, they continued to support their Party. Even those brave enough to criticize him did not have the courage to not endorse him. Their illusion was complete. They put their Party above their country.
