K9 for $1.49: NAN Starts Campaign on Use of Force

March 31, 2016 (San Diego) Channel 10 reported last week that a young African American man stole a bag of chips from an AMPM gas station on Euclid Avenue. The response from San Diego Police to this was 8 squad cars, a helicopter and a Canine deployment.

This led to National Action Network (NAN) San Diego Chapter President Shane Harris to issue a statement. This was before the same AMPM station where the alleged robbery happened. He came with Bishop Cornelius Bowser, who also heads the Community Assistance Support Team and is a board member of NAN.

Harris first addressed the media, and pointed to the video of an African American man who was in his late twenties or early thirties. He walked into the ARCO station, and stole a bag of Cheetos. Harris said that as he started to watch the tape, after they got the call, “I began to think about Rodney King.”

Mind you, the reason Channel 10 got that video is because they have a couple people in unmarked cars with a scanner... literally chasing hot calls. If the news tracker had not been close, none would be the wiser.

In her report, nadin never mentions the fact that the perp assaulted two minimum wage minority clerks at the AM/PM before he absconded into the night, punching one in the face and wrestling around on the asphalt with the other.  I guess the facts don't fit the narrative that Al Sharptons bunch is trying to push, and nadin wants to be a good little liberal toadie.  A better headline would be "Man assaults two gainfully employed citizens over a $1.49 bag of Cheetos."

Even ignoring nads having omitted highly relevant facts, of what is she complaining? The police caught a criminal. nads doesn't want criminals caught and incarcerated before they do something worse? And, of course and predictably, when the fuller context is revealed, the response is proportional to the full crime.
