All lot is being asked about what candidates (well one candidate anyway) will do to improve race relations. Not the economics of race, or dealing with institutional or structural racism where it exists, but relations. What could/should a president who get's it do?

Whoa. Asking that question is like tossing a chicken into a piranha tank. Or like tossing a government check into a roomful of liberals.

On the other hand, there aren't many verified, bona fide persons of color on DU, so they will just have to make do with posers and do-gooders:

That is very true, but the reason they want them runs much deeper than 'free shit'. Those pushing them know they hold far greater value as an admission of guilt (for something that nobody alive is responsible for), than simply greasing a few palms.

Without a doubt. But that power is in a direct sense, primarily over the takers. Where the people being taken from are concerned, it is much easier to wield power over a people who admit guilt for something they had no part in. The 2008 and 2012 elections kind of demonstrate that. They want to ratchet that up a notch or ten, and for a longer duration.
