As far as we know, Pitt the Elder (D-AL) was an honorable man.
Regardless his assignment, he wore the nation's uniform during a time of war, in a war zone.
He was a white democrat in Alabama, a rare species and about the most harmless of all democrat subgroups.
I sort of feel sorry for the guy. As a respected professional, he surely spent the autumn of his life devastated by the utter failure of his only son, an unemployable, unmotivated alcoholic who has lived his entire adult life dependent on the labor of his mother and now his tattooed terminal wife.
It's hard to imagine the pain of such disappointment.
One can hope that whatever estate he accumulated will be left to his second wife, a church, charity, or even the democrat party.
