Schools Closed in Virginia District After Uproar Over Arabic Calligraphy Lesson

A central Virginia school district has cancelled classes Friday after concerns over the "tone and content" of calls and emails received about a lesson in Arabic calligraphy.

Augusta County Public Schools, near Staunton in central Virginia, will be closed after the district received "voluminous phone calls and electronic mail locally and from outside the area" about a high school World Geography class lesson, the district announced Thursday evening.

In a lesson Friday on the Middle East, students were presented with an Islamic statement of faith written in Arabic calligraphy, superintendent Eric Bond told The News Leader.

"The students were presented with the statement to demonstrate the complex artistry of the written language used in the Middle East, and were asked to attempt to copy it in order to give the students an idea of the artistic complexity of the calligraphy," a statement Bond gave the paper said.

I don't know why the schools were closed, but I suspect some people have had enough of this islam bullshit being shoved down school kids throats.

They could have picked something else, they could have had them copy japanese writing or a myriad of other choices. To have them copy, in arabic, the islam pillar is over the top.

Funny, the article didn't mention any hacked-off heads rolling in this county's streets and roads. No reports of IEDs. No gay people shoved off 4+ story buildings. No women had acid thrown in their faces. No schools full of girls were burned down, with the girls trapped inside. No mosques or Hindu temples dynamited.

 Seems to me those are rather significant differences.

As for shutting down the schools and extra-curricular activities, there were no actual threats. Not even by a false-flagger or idiot prankster. "Over-reaction" this vast reeks of publicity stunt and a variant of Washington Monument Syndrome.

One thing that bothers me though... where is all the condemnation of separation of religion and state?  Where is the token atheist screaming to high heaven?  Where is the ACLU suing the school system?  Where is the dump condemnation?

Which confuses the hell out of me. Why do DUmmies so fervently defend a religion that throws gays off buildings, stones women to death for their crime of being a rape victim, cut the right hand off of thieves,

I believe its a case of binary thinking.

In this case, it could be summed up with the tired phrase "My enemy's enemy is my ally.". - They simply do not grasp that there can be any position where a liberal & a conservative can agree. - So, they are for what conservatives are not, and vice-versa. What is even more telling is how they are willing to switch a position instantly based on circumstance. - For example, remember when a 9 trillion dollar debt was 'unpatriotic' ?
