 When I read her books, the message I get is that man is heroic and that civilization is at it's best when all are free to achieve greatness without unnecessary encumbrances. Cures for diseases, new and better energy sources, arts and sciences advances, etc. all come about when people know that they will be fairly rewarded for the contributions they make in their field of expertise, and allowed to enjoy the fruits of their labor as they so choose.

She was an idealist who abhorred corruption in government and business, nationalism, fascism, and dictatorship. She believed that it is in all of us to be great. So I ask, why such bitter hatred from the left?

What?! They lack the self-awareness and/or honesty to say what bugs them about Ayn Rand? It's her condemnation of the welfare state. It's her condemnation of government micro-intruding in every minute detail of business. It's her prophecy (a word she might have hated), in Atlas Shrugged of where all those things lead. It's the slowly dawning realization - fraught with loathing and terror - that her prophecy is coming true in the US and Western EuroLand.

I will give steelysunshine's comment this much credit. Rand's writing was pedantic and preachy; "Show, not tell," is sound advice for fiction writing.

Excellent point and H-5 issued. When written, her parasitic-people characters may have seemed to be implausible, but they seem rather realistic nowadays.

Speeches are all Clinnochio and owebuma were about.
It's embedded in the lib psyche that all problems in the world can be solved with speeches, "raising awareness" and #tweeting.

Hypocritical DUmmies listen to their Lightbringer flap his dick ticklers for hours. Like one of those machines that imitates the ocean, it soothes them.

Their other problem with Ayn Rand (aside from recognizing themselves as the villains) is that her books require concentration- a quality which they lack.
