What?! They lack the self-awareness and/or honesty to say what bugs them about Ayn Rand? It's her condemnation of the welfare state. It's her condemnation of government micro-intruding in every minute detail of business. It's her prophecy (a word she might have hated), in Atlas Shrugged of where all those things lead. It's the slowly dawning realization - fraught with loathing and terror - that her prophecy is coming true in the US and Western EuroLand.
I will give steelysunshine's comment this much credit. Rand's writing was pedantic and preachy; "Show, not tell," is sound advice for fiction writing.
