San Bernardino killers were monsters but...

San Bernardino killers were monsters — but one of their victims was just as bigoted

They were two hate-filled, bigoted municipal employees interacting in one department. Now 13 innocent people are dead in unspeakable carnage.

One man spent his free time writing frightening, NRA-loving, hate-filled screeds on Facebook about the other’s religion. The other man quietly stewed and brewed his bigotry, collecting the kind of arsenal that the Facebook poster would have envied. What they didn’t realize is that except for their different religions they were in many ways similar men who even had the same job.

One man, the Muslim, was a loser who had to travel all the way to Pakistan to get himself an email bride. (I refuse to add to their fame by using the killer and his murderous wife’s names.)

The other man, the victim, Nicholas Thalasinos, was a radical Born Again Christian/Messianic Jew, who also connected with his future wife online and had traveled across the country to meet her. The killer, however, became half of an Islamic Bonnie & Clyde, while the other died as the male equivalent of Pamela Geller. The killers deserve every disgusting adjective thrown at them. And more.

But the victim is also inaccurately being eulogized as a kind and loving religious man.

1. The man was just shot to death

Seems in poor taste to publish something like this after he was just killed.

2. Anything is OK

so long as it serves to make this a case of "workplace violence" rather than what it was, radical Islamist terrorism.

Maybe it's because they want to stay on Santa's good list...but there seems to be a lot of push back against the OP.

5. Give it up

This was radical Islamist terrorism - nothing more, nothing less.

Workplace violence has already been ruled out, in case you haven't been following the news.

56. This is unbelievable. What is the OPs point, trying to say one victim's death is more deserving

than another? This is America, where you don't murder someone because you disagree with them.

It is a sick and twisted rationalization for what purpose?

still_one obviously hasn't read some of the threads from his/her/it's fellow Libtards that wish death upon anyone carrying a weapon.

102. Missed point

I saw no such position in the article and think your response inaccurate. Instead of offering the murderers an excuse it offered a motivation, possibly even diffusing the connection to terrorism and the associated escalation of fear that allows ever more control and ever less protections from those who seek less freedom here.

It is said that the first casualty of war is truth, and I think this event is being used to advance political agendas rather than as motivation to find an end to all this damn violence.

If you're looking for truth...you're looking in the wrong place.

I'm going to be a lazy slug and post here what I posted on CU:

Moral equivalency argument fail! Even in DU! philosslayer's tail-tucking retreat from the obvious fact that (s)he obviously posted something with which (s)he agreed and thought other DU-folk would agree is lamely unconvincing.

Just one of these two very religious men collected and modified guns for full-automatic fire.

Just one of these two very religious men bought explosives and materials to build pipe bombs.

Just one of these two very religious men built triggers and rigged RC cars for remotely controlled and triggered bombs.

Just one of these two very religious men slaughtered a dozen people, wounded more, and attempted to deploy one of his RC car/bombs.

Just one of these two very religious men led police on a wild chase, tossing pipe bombs and firing guns at the police.

It wasn't the Jewish Christian guy! Moral equivalency narrative fail!

For a moral equivalency argument to have a chance to work, there has to be ... equivalency.
