Another cab ride story.


In January of 2002 my friends and I got a cab at NYC's Jacob Javits Convention Center to go to dinner after the NY Gift Show. We had last been in the city at the end of August, less than 2 weeks before the planes hit the Twin Towers. The difference in the atmosphere, in people's manner was quite striking and it was making me sad.

I leaned forward and asked the cabbie how he was doing and told him that I had noticed the sadness hanging over the city. He told us all about his experience on that awful day, told us about coming to America ( from an eastern European country and I cannot remember which one). How he loves NYC and the events of 9/11 hurt and shocked him deeply. He poured his heart out to us, it was very moving and very sad.

When he pulled up in front of the restaurant he jumped out of the cab to hug each of us 3 women as we got out. We were all in tears. He refused to accept any money from us although we sure tried. I think of him every so often like I did today and I send him blessings.

I see. Trying to get out of paying for your cab ride. I bet the DUmmie had no cash.
