If anyone was still in doubt that huge segments of the population have been left out of the economic recovery, a new report released by the Pew Research Center dispels that myth with the finding that, for the first time since the Census began tracking children’s poverty rate, the number of Black children living in poverty in the U.S. overtook the number of white children living in poverty.

This has occurred despite the fact that white children outnumber Black children 3 to 1. This means that not only has the economic recovery missed certain segments of the population, it has left behind some of the country’s most vulnerable citizens.

Pew’s definition of poverty is a family of four that has an income under $24,000 a year. Based on this definition, 2 our of every 5, or 38 percent, of the 11 million Black children in the U.S. live in poverty. This is in direct opposition to the fact that the overall number of children living in poverty in the U.S. dropped from 16.3 million in 2010 to 14.7 million in 2013.

Mark Hugo Lopez, the director of Hispanic research at the Pew Research Center, says that the differences in poverty rates for American children can be attributed to the employment and income differences faced by parents. Lopez states, “The labor market has recovered, but the recovery has been uneven.” Black parents are more likely to be unemployed, and even when they are employed, they earn less money than other races.

It's due to racism and bias in hiring affecting their parents that there are such a high percentage of African American children living in poverty such that they can have more in number than white children in poverty.

And the information is out there in a number of studies. It's easier for a white person with a felony conviction to get hired than an African American person with a clean record all things being equal. Latinos have anglicized their name, resubmitted their otherwise same resume to a firm that wouldn't give them a callback, and BAM, they get called for an interview.

The economy improving overall won't fix that.

1.  Curing HIV/AIDS won't cause a "population boom", since most HIV/AIDS infections occur in the homo community, with half of them unable/incapable of reproducing.

3.  If DUmmie numbers Riverside was REALLY concerned for the planet, it would be encouraging more DUmmies to commit suicide, and would lead by example.

Partly echoing dd above, the two main groups contracting AIDS in the US are homosexual men and IV (illegal) drug users. Gay men don't/won't reproduce, and IV (illegal) drug users don't reproduce much either. A magic wand that magically eradicated AIDS would not create a population boom.

And how can Lib/Prog Enviros keep beating the Population Bomb drum? Mankind has disproved Malthus for what ... 3 centuries? four centuries? Racism isn't dumbing down public schools, which normally results in a person of average IQ not even being able to discern what the **** many of these kids are even talking about.
