Sometimes a picture really does say it f*cking all.

"A text out of context is a pretext." Actually, arc1's comment "does say it f*cking all" ... about his/her gross ignorance of history. Some of what (s)he apparently does not know:
* in 1920, England's and Europe's economies were shattered by war - vast devastation, millions of working age men killed;
* in 1920, England's and Europe's economies were further disrupted by the world-wide influenza epidemic that killed further millions of people;
* in 1920, England and Europe were absorbing and accommodating millions of vets with severe disabilities;
* in 1920, England's and Europe's economies were accommodating millions of demobilized vets, many of whom went straight from secondary school classrooms to the battlefield via basic training camps;
* in 1920, England's and Europe's economies were adjusting to the near absence of two major regional agricultural and industrial players, Russia and Germany.
Just off the top of my head ...
