Oh my.

Even the cooking and baking primitives, who imagine themselves as "caring" people, aren't paying any attention to that their pal Skippy goes under the knife in 12 hours.

0What's for Dinner, Mon., Mar. 30, 2015

I'm making one of my all-time favorite vegetarian entrees: cauliflower pie. It's a Mollie Katzen recipe.

Also making mango chutney to go with.

1. something different! attending the spay-ghetti and no balls dinner

to benefit a local no kill cat shelter, Safe Haven. Two of our furbabies came from there - should be fun (a modest donation gets us food from a great local Italian restaurant!)

10. We have a spay-ghetti fund raiser at the spay/neuter clinic where I volunteer.

This year, it was terrible. It was held at a Marriott (I think) and the salad was pale and limp and mostly iceberg lettuce. The pasta was overcooked and the sauce was no better than the jarred kind from the grocery. There was one large meatball (about the size of a baseball) on each plate. When I saw people sawing and hacking theirs, I was afraid to eat mine. A friend said that her dog really liked those meatballs! At least the free beer was good--Lagunitas IPA donated by a local supporter of spay/neuter. There was a silent auction and a good jazz band, so it was a fun night in spite of the bad food.

We're having leftovers tonight. Roasted potatoes, broccoli, squash from yesterday.

2. Chili Rellenos…..

Never made them before and I'm a bit nervous. I love them and so does DH, so the pressure is on.

I have made the tomato broth and charred/skinned the chiles. Now it's just the batter and frying.

I just looked up the recipe for your cauliflower pie. Wow!! That sounds amazing. Enjoy!

5. I would suggest that you hold off, lol.

We have been spoiled by the quality of the product here, so I'm not sure I can live up to it.

20. cutlets are still frozen solid

rooted through the cupboards and came up with a package of saffron rice, so it's that with roasted taters, cauliflower and carrots.

7. Not sure yet.

Maybe cukes, grape tomatoes, olives and red onion in a vinaigrette.

Husband can't have anything but liquids, so will probably figure out something cold so I won't be wafting any tempting aromas through the house. I could eat the shawarma leftovers cold (tasted it cold...awesome!) but I thought I would save it for his lunch tomorrow.

13. A NY Strip Steak I got on sale

grilled black and bleu so perfect I can practically weep that I was able to cook something so wonderful. It's thick, charred and rare on the inside, with a shade of garlic I stuffed in it, too, while letting it rest to room temperature.

I don't mean to be vain, but DAMN, I love my own cooking

18. Aiyiyi...it's bleeding. I'm happy you enjoyed your steak. My dear (late) husband loved

his as well and never could accommodate my tastes. I always had to cook mine until done-ness in the m'wave, then I usually put ketchup on top (oh, the desecration...)

We could always come together on lots of other things, but beef, steak, rare meat was never a good combination for us unless we ate at a steak/chop house.

19. I eat my lamb the same way

Chicken, pork, turkey and fish? No.

Unless it's sushi. Different rules apply for sushi

tender and juicy on the inside. Thanks!

<<<thinks it needs to be crispy on the inside too.

But whatever.

16. Odd and ends

Some leftover pork ribs from yesterday, the last of the Brussels sprouts, and some leftover mushroom risotto. That oughta clean out three Tupperware containers.
apres moi, le deluge

Looked up the cauliflower pie and it has to taste as revolting as it sounds.

I'm picturing rutabaga.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.
