CINCINNATI (AP) — A woman accused of decapitating her 3-month-old daughter with a chef's knife was indicted Wednesday on a charge of aggravated murder.

Twenty-year-old Deasia Watkins' arraignment is scheduled for Thursday. Her defense attorney, Michael Joseph Trapp, said the grand jury indictment was expected, and he had no further comment.

The baby, Jayniah Watkins, had been stabbed multiple times with a large chef's knife, authorities said. She also had a fractured arm, and the knife had been placed in her hand, they said.

3. Poor baby, poor mother. As terrible as her actions are, I hope she gets help instead of punishment.

It sounds like most of her life has been punishment. I don't know if she could ever be considered stable enough to be in society, however.

You keep hearing and/or seeing things that no one else does or that you know are not there. You may have what seem like voices in your head that won’t stop no matter what you do. The voices comment about your actions or tell you appalling things, even that you may need to hurt someone or do something you would never do otherwise. Perhaps you feel the radio, television, nature or God is speaking directly to you and you alone or giving you secret messages.

You may feel as if you are being controlled by some outside force. This force may be telling you to harm someone. Or you may have strange violent urges that have nothing to do with choice.

Though you might fear that you will be locked up forever if you were to ever reveal what is happening to you, you can get better with professional help. There are countless women who have had postpartum psychosis and recovered 100%.

The key is getting urgent help for how you are feeling before you lose all insight into the fact that you are ill, which is what happens with this illness. Get yourself (or anyone you suspect of suffering from this) to an emergency room immediately and be open about being homicidal, suicidal, hearing or seeing things, and describing any other concerns or symptoms you have. You can even print out this symptom list, bring it with you, and share with them the items on it that you are experiencing.

I don't even need to click over to know that there will be many claims that she was denied an abortion at the hands of rethugs, and that's what drove her to it.

Ya know what?!!!  if I was in a psychosis such as her or like Andrea Yates I would sue the hell out of you if your tried to bring me back to sanity. That is inhumane to bring a mom that killed her kid (not knowing she was doing it) back into reality to find out what she did.

This is the part that gets me.  Was the mother expecting it to look like a suicide?

Perhaps she was trying to make it look like an accident, like the baby got hold of the knife and accidentally killed herself playing with it.
Even that would fall flat, though, as I don't think a 3- month- old would even be able to lift a chef's knife, let alone stab and cut herself with it.
