1. I grew up on roast beef,mashed potatoes,and gravy.

I'm 79 years old.

'Nuff said.

2. My Dad did similar,

and lived to 98. There were fewer extra 'ingredients' in those days, of course. And my mother died at 30 something of breast cancer, an aunt died in her 60s probably of intestinal cancer, and uncles of heart conditions in their 40s and 50s. I'm 70, and ok. I don't think our anecdotes prove anything.

4. The secret reason docs love the Mediterranean diet:

back in the 50's, some folks pushing tourism gave a bunch of influential doctors all expense paid vacations at various Mediterranean villas.

Of course they thought Mediterranean food was great. No one has ever pointed out that the Greeks, Southern Italians, Northern Italians, French and Spanish all live on the Mediterranean and all eat different things. (Of course, North Africa has nothing to do with the Mediterranean)

As far as I know, the one study of a Mediterranean diet was taken on a Greek island during Lent, a time when eggs, all dairy products (butter and cheese) and meat are forbidden. Guess what the villagers ate in abundance the rest of the year?

5. LOL @ the first "Danger zone" that says butter fat and calories are bad.

Bzzzt. Stop reading right there.

Okay I lied, I read the next one and again they warn that fat in cheese is bad. Not even close to correct.

Third one, "fatty ribs are bad". Wrong.

Fifth one is wrong, please do not avoid cream and butter.

It keeps going, and it's almost all wrong. This article is crap.

6. The article is 'old,'

that is, from 2010, and for those who think 'old' means 'crap,' then it is 'crap.' Others may find some useful info in it.

7. Old or new, bad advice is bad advice.

Why the hell would you praise the Med diet and then crap on saturated fat?

It's insane, and confusing, and wrong.

Okay, to be fair to the husband-hating primitive, I went and checked out the article.

It lists Hellenic cuisine as the healthiest, then followed by "California Fresh."

After which Vietnamese, Japanese, and Hindu.

And then Italianate, Spanish, Mexican.

And finally, South American and Thai.

Whatever; that's not franksolich's list of healthy cuisines.

Just one of the lib's many mottos...
Caviar for me, but not for thee.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Cholesterol and blood pressure issues have a whole lot more to do with genetics than they do with diet.

I've seen recently where cholesterol consumption has very little to do with health problems. As you said genetics are more of a contributing factor.

I remember seeing this recently too. I just don't remember at this second exactly where.

My dad smoked a big box of cigars every two days. He also chewed several packs of chewing tobacco every day. He ate the fat that I cut off my steaks saying that's the best part. He scooped the fatback out of a pot of beans or whatever it happened to be in first thing. At age 65, my uncle the doctor gave him an EKG and told him he had probably had a heart attack and to not do anything until he could arrange some test for him. A couple of weeks later they ran a battery of test, looked at his arteries and said they were cleaner than a 20 year olds arteries. They found nothing wrong with him. They said he probably had had some kind of virus that affected his EKG results. When he asked what he should do the doctors told him that he should just keep on doing whatever he had been doing.  :lmao:

They didn't know the man was a walking contradiction to everything they told people to do for good health.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin
