Anyone catch what clementine613 posted before it went down the rabbit hole?

Some of the DUpipo get the whole "free exercise" thingy, but a disturbing number don't:

Unfortunately, in spite of their track record, they remain effective at what they do. Even Scott Adams and, it appears, some people at conservativepoliticalforum.com bought into the media narrative of what happened, before the students side of the story came out.

So, I tried the "trick" of Googling the DU title along with "Democratic Underground" and checking for what Google has cached, but the post must've been removed too long ago. All I found of the original post was this from the results list:

The poster you quoted apparently isn't aware that the catholic students were confronted by a known hate group. That hate group said, among other things, that the bible condemns homosexuals ( to which a catholic student replied "They're still humans").

It's the typical MO of the left; confront and provoke opposition, and then complain when their target reacts (or in this case, doesn't really react at all).

I went to hs just down the road from cov cath. It's an all boys school. The girls are across the road at Notre dame. They were known as the fags in the valley and the girls were the whores on the hill. I never had a problem with any of the guys over there. This is a whole lot of nothing, hate that it hits this close to home

At the time I posted that I wasn't very aware of the full context, either. But the narrative didn't ring true, and I knew the narrative was being questioned as not giving full context. But not knowing more I just called out the stupidity that was in clementine613's now "removed" post.

I also could have pointed out that Progressives' bigoted attempt to shut down Catholic (and other) parochial schools got squashed by the USSC (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierce_v._Society_of_Sisters) nearly 95 years ago. I don't know if Miss Nancy is sufficiently insanely stupid as to try to pass a law outlawing parochial schools. I doubt it would pass the House, let alone get past the Senate, President Trump, and the USSC (Justices Thomas, Kavanaugh, and Roberts all attended Catholic schools, :-) ).

I believe the FBI should investigate this (since it spans jurisdictions) and prosecute all the liberals and conservatives that had anything to do with this. That includes all the journalists who didn't vet the story before running with it. Seems like National Review had some hand in this so take them down with the libs.

Unless some media outlet directly and specifically urged violence against the students, families and the school, where's the crime? The MSM F'ed up, badly, but that is not a crime.

As to National Review, I did not see what they published, but have seen that something referenced in multiple contexts. Here's what NR has about it, my emphasis:

The Lincoln Memorial Hoax (https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/the-lincoln-memorial-hoax/)
By RICH LOWRY, National Review Editor

Quote
Last night, I tweeted that the Catholic high school that apologized over the conduct of its kids at the Lincoln Memorial did the appropriate thing. Then someone shared with me a snippet from a different angle/time that showed the Indian elder/activist approaching the kid in a MAGA hat who looked initially like he was menacing him. I noted that ambiguity in another tweet and said it was still wrong for the other kids to mock the elder’s chant. Now, even more extensive video shows that the elder approached the entire group of kids in the first place and suggests — together with a statement by one of the students — that the kids jumping around and chanting may not necessarily have been mean-spirited. All this took place in the context of a long, poisonous tirade directed at the the students by a group of black nationalists. Anyway, if not a hoax, this at the very least was not what it initially seemed. I deleted my original tweet and we also took down a strongly worded post by my colleague Nick Frankovich that relied on the incomplete video. It’s another reminder — even for an old hand like me — that it’s best not to make snap judgments and to wait for all sides of a controversy to have a chance to be heard.

Note the time stamp, because even that mea goofa blogpost reflects what was known and what was uncertain at the time it was published.

Here is the article about the incident I found on the NR site Main Page, similar time stamp:

Nathan Phillips Lied. The Media Bought It. (https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/01/nathan-phillips-lied-the-media-bought-it/)

If you’re in a public place and someone starts heckling you, are you entitled to heckle back? How about if someone does something much worse than heckling you in a public place? What if that person in fact takes a drum up to you and starts banging it in your face? Are you entitled to heckle back? How about smirking? Are you allowed to smirk?

I think you are, even if you’re wearing a MAGA hat. Even if you’re an entitled brat. Even if you’re an entitled Catholic brat.

We’ll stipulate that the Catholic boys from a high school in Kentucky were a little obnoxious when an indigenous man named Nathan Phillips banged a drum at them in front of the Lincoln Memorial on Friday. But Phillips was being a lot more obnoxious. To put it another way, if you were minding your own business in a public place and someone came right up to you and put a drum up to your face and made a huge racket inches from your nose, would you be happy about it?

The kids from Covington Catholic High School in Covington, Ky., were ambassadors for causes much bigger than themselves: Catholicism and the right to life. As such, they should have comported themselves better than to jeer and do a tomahawk chop in front of Phillips. Ideally, the kids would have ignored him and walked away. ...

Phillips, on the other hand, is an adult, and he repeatedly lied about what happened to the Washington Post, which was utterly taken in by him and reported everything he said uncritically.
...
Friday he waded into a group of Covington students, evidently hoping to troll a response out of them suitable for a viral video. According to the Washington Post, Phillips, 64, said that he felt threatened by the teens and that they swarmed around him as he and other activists were wrapping up the march and preparing to leave. This is a lie. They didn’t swarm around him. He strolled right into the middle of their group:

Kentucky student seen in viral confrontation with Native American speaks out

Quote
The Kentucky high school student seen in a viral video standing-face-to-face with a Native American protester at a Washington rally spoke out for the first time Sunday evening, claiming in a statement that he and his classmates were taunted by a group of African-American protesters and saying that he and his family had received death threats.

Nick Sandmann, a junior at Covington Catholic High School, said he was "mortified that so many people have come to believe something that did not happen -- that students from my school were chanting or acting in a racist fashion toward African Americans or Native Americans. I did not do that, do not have hateful feelings in my heart and did not witness any of my classmates doing that."

The students initially were accused of mocking a Native American participant in the Indigenous Peoples March, which coincided with the March for Life. A snippet of video from the apparent confrontation quickly gained traction on social media, with many condemning the students -- some of whom were wearing "Make America Great Again" apparel -- and some calling for them to be identified and harassed. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington and the high school issued a joint statement apologizing to the activist, identified as Nathan Phillips Saturday.

In the future, if you come to a juicy DU post that you have a good idea is NOT going to last, do the following:

1. Open up new tab or, better yet, new browser window.
2. In new browser window, navigate to https://archive.org/web/
3. On the right side of the webpage, look for "Save Page Now" with a box that looks like this:

4. Copy url from the DU post.
5. Past url into the text box and click "SAVE PAGE" button.
6. You may have to wait a few seconds, sometimes even a minute or two, but once it's done, the page is forever archived. Make sure you copy the archive link and keep it handy in case MIRT takes down the live shot.

That's it!

Lawyer for Covington Catholic HS Families Threatens Lawsuits Against Media Unless They Retract False Stories

Thanks to the sloppy, one-sided reporting of the malicious, agenda-driven media, a group of Catholic high school teenagers and their families have become the subjects of threats and harassment from a hateful online outrage mob. Their only sins? Being white, Catholic, and supporters of the president.

The full story has emerged in the wake of the fake news blitzkrieg over the weekend, and the media outlets that spread defamatory smears against the kids are now being warned to correct and retract their stories or face a lawsuit. Contrary to the media's malicious narrative, the kids were not racist rednecks mobbing a Native American elder with hateful slurs. It was quite the opposite.

Los Angeles-based trial lawyer Robert Barnes offered to represent the Covington families for free should they decide to sue the New York Times.

Let's start with Kathy Griffin.

It's seemingly impossible to keep track of all the falsehoods being told about the incident:

Covington students attacked a group of black men.
Students confronted Nathan Phillips (it was he who approached them).
Student deliberately obstructed Phillips from leaving.
Students chanted "build the wall" and "MAGA" at Phillips.
Out of context, altered photo of students in 'blackface' at football game.

Not to mention the lack of coverage of the people provoking the Covington students. Now I'm hearing there's a video of kids sitting on a bench chanting "build the wall", but it's a different incident, and it's not clear that it involved the same kids.

The people trying to raise outrage over this incident are telling lies to cover up lies to cover up lies.

Covington row: Lawmakers want details from Twitter on account that promoted viral video, report says
https://www.foxnews.com/tech/covington-row-lawmakers-want-details-from-twitter-on-account-that-promoted-viral-video-report

Quote
Lawmakers have reportedly asked Twitter for details of the shadowy account that circulated a controversial video of students from Covington Catholic High School and their encounter with a Native American activist near the Lincoln Memorial.

The House Intelligence Committee and Sen. Mark Warner, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, have asked Twitter for information on the mysterious account, according to the HuffPost.

Now Congress is getting involved.

Its gets more interesting.
Quote
The video that sparked social media outrage initially surfaced on Instagram, according to a CNN Business report, although @2020fight’s description of the video was widely circulated on Twitter and in the broader media. The clip was reportedly captioned: “This MAGA loser gleefully bothering a Native American protester at the Indigenous Peoples March.”

Quote
The @2020fight account reportedly used a photo of Nah Cardoso, a Brazilian social media star. However, a source with knowledge of the situation told Fox News there is evidence that the account originated in the U.S.

A legal adviser to Cardoso told CNN that Cardoso had not authorized any other account to user her image or content.

CNN reports that the @2020fight account was set up in December 2016 and listed a description of “Teacher and advocate” in its Twitter bio. The account was purportedly originated in California.

I suspect it is a leftist in California.

From what I've read elsewhere, that Twitter account was set up in December, 2016, and spewed a steady stream of Hate-Trump. It's a demonstration of how real Twitter's supposed effort to clean out fake accounts was. More info in this article:

CNN's 'Information Warfare Expert' Duped by Twitter Bot Pushing Dubious MAGA Hat Teen Vid (https://pjmedia.com/trending/cnns-information-warfare-expert-got-duped-by-twitter-bot-pushing-dubious-covington-video/)

Quote
CNN reports that Twitter account @2020fight, one of the primary outlets pushing the dubiously edited video of the encounter between the Covington Catholic High School students and Native American activist Nathan Phillips this past weekend, has been shut down for being a suspected bot account.

The account, which opened in December 2016, posted virulently anti-Trump and pro-Obama content. CNN reported that Twitter is unsure of where the account user is located. The Covington video that the account shared received more than 2.5 million views before the account was closed. The video has been widely criticized for presenting a deceptively decontextualized depiction of the incident.

Bizarrely, to provide commentary on the role of bot accounts in shaping trending topics, CNN chose to cite highly controversial, self-styled "information warfare expert" Molly McKew. Yet McKew herself had tweeted out the bot account's video with her own highly inflammatory commentary.

In other words, she fell for information warfare while claiming to be an expert in the topic.

The humor in CNN's "information warfare expert" being pwned by a fake Twitter account is considerable, but if one reads a little farther in the article, her background will have one wondering whether she was pwned by the fake Twitter account or by a hubris-driven assumption that no one else will realize the account was fake.

She is a SOCIAL STUDIES teacher!!!! I wonder if she has any idea what the 1st Amendment means, and how she teaches it!!! She is CLEARLY unqualified to teach anyone anything, but especially anything having to do with how our government is supposed to work.

So, I tried the "trick" of Googling the DU title along with "Democratic Underground" and checking for what Google has cached, but the post must've been removed too long ago. All I found of the original post was this from the results list:

:thatsright: Must be interesting for those Catholic schools, teaching racism to, for example, Hispanics and Vietnamese students! :thatsright:  :hammer: DU-Moron! How blitheringly ignorant does one need to be not to know that there are lots and lots of Hispanic and Vietnamese in the US Catholic Church?! :hammer: And I'm sure it would not be hard to find black Catholic school students. :hammer:

Funny you should mention that. In Philadelphia there are so many black kids in Catholic schools quite a few who are not even Catholic because of the bad situation in Public schools.

My three kids went to a Catholic elementary school through 8th grade.  Although I'm an evangelical not a Catholic, my wife and I still chose it as a much better education for the kids. 12 -14 miles away from our town is a pretty well known university.  Of course they have a pretty diverse staff.  At least three of the professors were Muslim, but chose to drive their kids to the Catholic school instead.  What's that say about our public schools?

Lawyer Names Those to Be Sued for Comments About Covington Students
https://www.theepochtimes.com/lawyer-names-those-to-be-sued-for-comments-about-covington-students_2782415.html

Quote
Lawyer Robert Barnes named several celebrities and media personalities he intends to sue for libel against some students of the Covington Catholic High School, whom he represents.

In a Jan. 26 Fox News interview, Barnes specifically mentioned Reza Aslan, Iranian-American writer and commentator; Matthew Dowd, ABC News political analyst and former chief strategist for the George W. Bush campaign; actor Michael Rapaport; and The New York Daily News.

The trial lawyer took up the students’ case after media and social media whipped up a storm maligning the Kentucky students over their encounter with several Native American activists following the Jan. 18 March for Life in Washington.

It is all fun and games until you get served with lawsuits.

Quote
Not only have the students been the targets of violent threats, but Barnes himself has received threatening messages, including a bomb threat he referred to the FBI and other law enforcement.

Even Robert Barnes has been targeted by the kooky leftists.

That's it!

There is also Archive.Today.

Nick Sandmann’s Legal Team Gives Update in Pursuit of Fake Accusations by Media
https://www.theepochtimes.com/nick-sandmanns-legal-team-gives-update-in-pursuit-of-fake-accusations-by-media_2786230.html

Quote
The legal team representing Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann, who was confronted by a Native American activist in Washington in mid-January, said they made an important move on Jan. 30.

Todd McMurtry, an attorney who is helping represent Sandmann, said that he had a productive day with Lin Wood and Taylor Wilson, who are also part of the team.

“We sent out our first round of document preservation letters to a number of national media outlets. We have put them on notice!” McMurty said via Twitter.

The media and left are the bullies and mobs.
Quote
“A mob comprised of activists, church and school officials, members of the mainstream print and broadcast media, and individuals on social media, including elected public officials and celebrities, rushed to condemn and vilify this young man by burying him in an avalanche of false accusations, false portrayals, and cyberbullying that have threatened his reputation and his physical safety,” they added.

Covington Students’ Lawyer Receives Bomb Threat
https://www.theepochtimes.com/covington-students-lawyer-gets-bomb-threat_2778095.html

Quote
Robert Barnes, the lawyer for the Covington Catholic High School students who were the focus of a recent slew of false reporting, received a bomb threat after he warned media and celebrities that they may be the targets of a libel suit if they didn’t retract or correct false statements about the students within 48 hours.

The threat was sent via email through the contact form on the website of Barnes’ law firm on the morning of Jan. 23.

“I’m coming to bomb your office. Get ready. 48 hours. Be ready,” the message read.

Even with the longer and more videos, the left has doubled down. The left is really off kilter and violent prone.  :mental:

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- The controversy over a viral interaction between a Native American and a Kentucky high school student in Washington led to a controversy at a St. Louis-area high school.

A teacher at St. John Vianney High School has resigned because of a tweet harshly criticizing the boys in the video, who had come from a pro-life march and were accused of harassing and mocking participants of the Indigenous Peoples March in Washington D.C. in January.

Dawn Finley taught English at Vianney for nearly six years but stepped down from her job after she retweeted someone else's politically-charged thoughts about the happenings at the march.

To the north of Colorado Springs, Douglas County School District parents and other community members plan to protest Tuesday over what they consider unfair practices.

The group will demonstrate from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. in front of the administration building, 620 Wilcox St,.in Castle Rock, against “teacher bullying” and the school board not allowing them to speak publicly at the January board meeting.

Brad Wann, a parent and one of the organizers of the demonstration, is one of five people who wanted to address the board last month about what they say is a concerning development in their district.

What Michelle Grissom did was bullying and harassment on a person who was not even in Washington, DC when that incident happened. She needs to be fired.

A teacher at Mountain Ridge Middle School in Highlands Ranch, Michelle Grissom, publicly tweeted that a Covington Catholic High School student at a rally in Washington, D.C. was a member of the “Hitler Youth.”

She was referring to a January incident in Washington, D.C. involving students from the school and a Native American activist.

Grissom, also a district union leader, attempted to instigate an online mob against the teen, Wann said. She also misidentified the student she was talking about, citing the name of another person.

”The Twitter comments made by Ms. Grissom were inflammatory, aggressive and grossly inaccurate,” Wann said. “She was basically doxing the student, posting where they lived, trying to get a mob to go after this child, when the father pointed out that his son wasn’t even there.”

Grissom should be training to run the French fry machine at BK[/i] (M would be too good for her!). She cannot be trusted around students! But because she's a union thug she might get transferred, at most.

An attorney for Nick Sandmann, the Covington Catholic High School student who was vilified after a confrontation with Native American activist Nathan Phillips, said that those who allegedly defamed his client “need to be punished and they need to pay a high price for what they did.”

Todd McMurty, the co-counsel for Sandmann, told Fox News on Feb. 7 that legal action was being considered against dozens of celebrities, media, and other groups on accusations of libel and defamation.

“We are identifying people that may be libel. And then we’re sending out what you call document preservation letters,” McMurty said on the “Todd Starnes Show.” “These letters are designed to put people on notice. … So we sent those to about 52 organizations that include celebrities, national media sources, Catholic diocese that were involved in this. So all those people have received notices.”

52 people have been targeted ranging from Michael Rapaport, Kathy Griffin, Bill Maher, and Alyssa Milano.

Quote
McMurty said on the Todd Starnes Show that the legal team had stepped up preparations of the suit, which could target hundreds of individuals and entities.

“We will continue to expand that list of 52 and I suspect when it’s all over the list is going to be in the hundreds as we identify other people who have defamed, slandered and libeled Nick both in the press, live programs, and writing,” McMurty added. “We do intend to pursue as many of these people as we possibly can.”

More are going to get sued. Perhaps Kirsten Powers, Jack Morrissey, Michelle Grissom, and Sarah Beattie are next.

Threats Against Covington Students Possibly Felonious, Prosecutor Says
https://www.theepochtimes.com/threats-against-covington-students-possibly-felonious-prosecutor-says_2790230.html

Quote
People who threatened violence against the students of Covington Catholic High School may face up to five years in prison thanks to a Kentucky law that elevates threats against schools and students to felonies.

Commonly, violent threats are treated as misdemeanors in the state (pdf), where the private religious school is based.

But Kentucky law (pdf) has a special category of “terroristic threatening in the second degree” that pertains to threats of acts “likely to result in death or serious physical injury to any student group, teacher, volunteer worker, or employee of a public or private … school.”

They should be charged. I wonder why there are no federal charges being made as some of the threats are from outside of Kentucky.

Investigators say Catholic school boys did not start confrontation in D.C.

Covington, KY (AP) - COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Investigators hired by a Kentucky diocese have found that Catholic school boys didn’t instigate a confrontation at the Lincoln Memorial that went viral on social media.

Covington Bishop Roger Foys initially condemned the students’ behavior after a video showed a teenage boy face-to-face with a Native American man. Days later, Foys apologized for “making a statement prematurely.”

Case closed. The Covington Boys have been cleared. They did nothing wrong. They should never have been subject to a viral video.

Covington Catholic student Nicholas Sandmann filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against The Washington Post on Tuesday, accusing the newspaper of targeting him in “a modern-day form of McCarthyism.”

Attorneys for 16-year-old Sandmann — who was filmed in a viral confrontation with a Native American man in Washington, DC — claim the newspaper led a “mob of bullies which attacked, vilified & threatened” an innocent minor.

“Washington Post recklessly ignored basic journalist standards because it was eager to advance its biased agenda against @realDonaldTrump by impugning individuals perceived to be his supporters,” attorney Lin Wood said in a statement.

Good. And Nathan Phillips is getting sued.

Kentucky Prosecutor Close to Filing Charges against Leftists who Threatened Covington Kids
https://pjmedia.com/trending/kentucky-prosecutor-close-to-filing-charges-against-leftists-who-threatened-covington-kids/

Quote
Kenton County prosecutor Rob Sanders says his office is close to filing charges against the people who made terroristic threats against Covington Catholic High School students after an incident with protesters in Washington, D.C., last month.

Sanders told WLWT5 Tuesday that the first of these cases could come before a grand jury in the next two to three weeks.

The students were falsely accused of mocking Native American activist Nathan Phillips outside the Lincoln Memorial after the March for Life on January 18, spurring a frenzy that resulted in threats coming from across the country. Tens of thousands of hateful e-mails, calls, and Facebook and Twitter messages forced the school to cancel classes and activities for a couple of days the following week. Incredibly, the family of Nicholas Sandmann, the student at the center of the viral video, was forced to briefly go into hiding.

Lawyer L. Lin Wood discussed his decision to sue CNN for its reporting and coverage of his client during an interview that will air on Fox News Channel’s “Life, Liberty & Levin” on Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.

“CNN was probably more vicious in its direct attacks on Nicholas than The Washington Post. And CNN goes into millions of individuals' homes,” Wood told Fox News host and best-selling author Mark Levin.

(CNN)Kentucky high school student Nick Sandmann has sued CNN for its reporting on a viral video controversy in January. The lawsuit, seeking damages of $275 million, follows Sandmann's multi-million dollar lawsuit earlier this month against the Washington Post.

Sandmann, a student at Covington Catholic High School, was videotaped on the National Mall in Washington D.C., on January 18 after he and other students participated in the annual March for Life rally. In a video that went viral, Sandmann was seen wearing a red Make American Great Again hat standing in front of Omaha tribe elder Nathan Phillips. Phillips, who was beating a drum and chanting, had participated at the Indigenous Peoples March the same day. Additional video that surfaced in the following days provided more context for the encounter.

I suspect that you're right, but if it were me on the other side of the table the conversation would go something like this:

CNN: We want to settle this quickly and quietly.  We'll offer one million dollars.

Me, via lawyer: That's $274M too little.  You have to actually hurt for what you have done with malicious intent, which we can very easily prove to any jury out there.

CNN: OK, five million, with a non-disclosure agreement.

Me: Tell you what: I'll make it $250K to cover legal fees, but with the specific stipulation that you have to spend one week starting every news and opinion program with a two-minute disclaimer that CNN has been found to have specifically lied, with willful and malicious intent, solely because they are a hopelessly biased and hate-filled organization, but they hope that they can manage to not be such hate-filled pusbags in the future.  Then show a picture of a banana.  Note that this means that everyone from Anderson Cooper to that idiot dingleberry Don Lemon have to start every single show this way for seven straight days.

CNN: No way! We're never going to admit our bias to our audience.

Me: See you in court.

The Post is contesting a $250 million lawsuit, filed in response to the newspaper's reporting of a January encounter on the National Mall between Covington Catholic students and Native Americans, on several grounds.

Sandmann's legal team claims dozens of statements published by The Post are defamatory, while the newspaper's attorneys wrote in a brief filed Tuesday that each of the statements doesn't qualify as defamation because it isn't about Sandmann, it isn't defamatory, it's a statement of opinion or it is substantially true.

Teacher Who Tweeted About Covington Student Leaves District With Payout, Vacation

Michelle Grissom, a Colorado teacher who called a Covington Catholic student a member of the "Hitler Youth," has left the school district with a payout and paid vacation.

Grissom came to an agreement with Douglas County School District last week in which she will receive $25,000 in addition to the 14 weeks of paid time off that she already received, according to KUSA television.

Earlier this year, Grissom stepped into controversy with her comments on social media about the Covington Catholic students. The students came under fire after a video of their tense encounter with a Native American man went viral. When the video began to go viral, Grissom wrongly identified a student at Covington Catholic as being the instigator. She proceeded to put his name online and called him "Hitler Youth." The student named by Grissom was at a basketball game in Kentucky when he was accused, his family said.

Michelle Grissom should be rotting in prison along side with Kathy Griffin, Michael "DJ House Shoes" Buchanan, Sarah Beattie, and Jim Carrey.

Judge Dismisses Nick Sandman’s Lawsuit Against The Washington Post
https://www.theepochtimes.com/judge-dismisses-nick-sandmans-lawsuit-against-the-washington-post_3018735.html

Quote
A federal judge in Kentucky dismissed a lawsuit against The Washington Post brought by Nick Sandmann, one of the students of Covington Catholic High School who were in January confronted by a Native American activist, prompting a whirlwind of media coverage, much of which, Sandmann alleged, was defamatory.

On Feb. 19, Sandmann’s lawyers, Lin Wood and Todd McMurtry, filed a lawsuit against The Post claiming $250 million in damages. Several other lawsuits, including against CNN and NBC, followed.

Yet District Judge William Bertelsman of the eastern district of Kentucky tossed the first suit on July 26, saying The Post’s coverage of the incident didn’t use language derogatory enough, the alleged defamatory statements weren’t “objectively provable facts,” and many of them didn’t target Sandmann specifically.

Judge William Bertelsman is a President Jimmy Carter appointee.

Bertelsman, an appointee of President Jimmy Carter, ruled that several of The Post’s articles weren’t “actionable” because they didn’t name Sandmann, instead referring to the group of students as a whole. What the judge seemed to overlook was that a video was circulated with the articles which showed Sandmann face-to-face with Phillips, making apparent an association with Phillips’ comments that he “felt threatened” and that “that guy in the hat … blocked my way.”

Big disappointment. Wonder what this means for the rest of the lawsuits.

The alert I saw said this didn't affect the other cases. We'll see.

DU-folk are :hi5: ing, but the judge's "reasoning" is very narrow and seems pretty tenuous. The lawsuit could be reinstated (and hopefully assigned to a different judge). Because his ruling cited specifics that may be peculiar to the WashPost where other "news" outlets and celebri-holes wrote/spoke differently, it may not affect other cases (though those other cases, where they cited the WashPost, could rebound into the WashPost case in appeal).

EXCLUSIVE: 8 Covington Catholic Teens Sue ‘Most Egregious High-Profile Individuals’ for Defamation

Lawyers for eight Covington Catholic students (John Does 1-8) filed a defamation lawsuit on Thursday in Kentucky’s Kenton County Circuit Court against 12 individuals — lawmakers, journalists/media figures and social media personalities included.

Attorneys Robert Barnes (disclosure: Barnes has written columns for Law&Crime) and Kevin Murphy began the suit by going back to January 18, 2019, when, they say, “A field trip to our nation’s capital for a group of minors from Covington, Kentucky turned into a social media nightmare that changed their futures forever.”

This was when MAGA hat wearing high school students (Nick Sandmann, in particular) came face to face with a 65-year-old Native American man identified as Nathan Phillips. The lawsuit said that the defendants jumped to conclusions, painting the plaintiffs as racists, lying about an event they didn’t witness firsthand, and libeling the minors. (Note that these minors are bringing this lawsuit through their parents.)

Who is being sued by them.
Quote
The defendants have been named as follows (Law&Crime is not including a copy of the lawsuit here so as not publicize their addresses): 2020 presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Rep. Deb Haaland (D-New Mexico), CNN’s Ana Navarro, Maggie Haberman of the New York Times, comedian Kathy Griffin, ABC News political analyst Matthew Dowd, Reza Aslan (formerly of CNN), Kentucky entrepreneur Adam Edelen, Princeton University History Professor Kevin M. Kruse, activist and journalist Shaun King, Mother Jones editor-in-chief Clara Jeffery and Rewire.News editor-in-chief Jodi Jacobson.

Elizabeth Warren is running for President and that could be dashed. Kathy Griffin is also being sued. Hope they all lose big.

I have not heard of any charges being filed against people who made death threats.
