A Berkeley police officer fired at least three shots at a suspect who pulled a gun on him, the St. Louis County Police chief said at a Wednesday morning news conference.

Police Chief Jon Belmar said the officer was responding to a larceny call at a Mobil on the Run station about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday when the shooting happened.

The officer saw two people on the parking lot in the 6800 block of North Hanley Road and began talking with them.

There is security footage of the shooting.

When the officer got out of his vehicle and walked toward the men, police say one of them pulled a handgun and pointed it at the officer.

The statement from St. Louis County Police says, “Fearing for his life, the Berkeley Officer fired several shots, striking the subject, fatally wounding him.”

The second man reportedly fled the scene.

Early Christmas Eve police released surveillance video from the gas station where the shooting occurred. A St. Louis County Police spokesman says in the top portion of the video near the end, the teen is seen raising a handgun at the police officer.

Now, there are more protests. He is very stupid to point the gun at a cop. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

So the redefining of criminals by the media has begin. The perp is referred to as 'the victim'. I'm sorry but the perp is the 'would be murderer.'

I watched the surveillance video.  The gas station was well lit up and there were customers going into and out of the store, as well as a large volume of traffic on the street as the shooting took place.   Are the race hucksters wanting us to believe that the "evil racist COPS" are so brazen in their plan to rid the world of blacks that they would just roll up on a couple of black dudes and commit cold blooded murder in plain sight?

The shooting could have been easily avoided if the now dead perp would not have pulled a gun on the Officer.  It was a fatal mistake made by the recently departed and a mistake he will never make again.

The dead street ape made another serious error, but that error saved the officer's life.

Look at this crime scene photo. What do you see?

The thumb safety was engaged.

Looking at the video, it appeared the dead thug pointed the gun at the officer and held it for a second or so, as the officer began to move backwards and draw his weapon. The thug was trying to pull the trigger, but couldn't.

Thugs don't usually engage safeties. Must have stolen it from a citizen who knew about gun safety.

And another cops life is spared thanks to a stupid criminal.

I can see the headline now "Sharpton, Jackson claim safeties on handguns are racist; demand their removal"

Even Fox still talke about the killing of 2 unarmed black men by the cops in Ferguson and NY. The truth and facts don't matter. The media will define the crime to their way of thinking. Sickening.

I guess he was use to a GLOCK. None of them fancy safety gadgets on a GLOCK.

Let that be a lesson to you. Know and practice with your weapon.

Yeah, that's a Hi Point, I believe.  Cheap, not well balanced, kind of an odd safety on it.

Bottom line:  The DUmbass thug gave a tactical advantage to the officer, which is a good thing all the way around.
