Anyone here on a government program, that the GOP wants to eliminate?

I'm on SSI, Food Stamps and Medical Assistance.

Granted, all three want to be cut or destroyed by the GOP, but I'm on one other program the GOP wants to demolish.

Assisted housing.
I fill out a bunch of forms, get interviewed, (fortunately here at my place,) and they give my landlord 2/3rds of the rent.

The GOP wants to cut housing assistance, to give more tax breaks and giveaways to the 1%.

1. All of us are, or will be, on programs the RW wants to cut, like Social Security.

And public highways, and parks benefit us.

2. They don't want to eliminate programs

They want to eliminate the U.S. Constitution and go back to Feudalism.

3. My husband and son are on SSDI, so I will be paying very close attention to how the Democrats vote

on this. We all know the Republicans want to cut social services. The question is will the Democrats go along with it. My guess is they will so that we can make sure the programs are "viable" in the future. I will not vote for any democrat who goes along with cuts to social services.

4. Pensions…. There's a lot to consider there...

I've been advising my retired school teacher sister about what legislation may well be set up to enable pension managers to "change dicks in the middle of a screw", but it didn't mean anything until that latest omnibus bill. I believe teachers would be less likely than teamsters.

So, there you go… pay into social security, and the lock box gets taken off or never put on. Pay into a pension fund that by legal agreement, you draw from rightfully, but now it could be 50 cents on the dollar.

And, the military gets over 50% of the entire budget.* Who exactly is being jerked around? How about everybody?

*obviously wrong, but I dunno by how much, excepting that it's w-a-a-a-a-y off.

5. I'm pretty much in your shoes.

When one's subsistence relies on the often resentful sufferance of others there is NO sense of security. There is a constant tension rooted in that uncertainty, and that stress contributes to the extension and exacerbation of many health issues.

That said, in January I'll get a $13 COLA. Yay.

7. Wow! 4 of those things are targeted.

The only thing you may end up with is the SSI and maybe some food stamps. It is going to get ugly. You can thank the voters who didn't vote. Hopefully in 2017, some of your deductions can be restored. Sorry you have to go through this. I think you are in for a rough time. Stay close to DU. We are here for you.

10. Well, just got my SS retirement approved...

I worry. I do.

I also depend on the VA for medical care. I worry. I do.

Republicans suck. I just got the "privatize social security" line from my RW roommate. I can't wait to move out.

Your Lightbringer's doin' a bang up job, eh?

*sigh*  There is no way to get through to these assholes that SS is not a give away UNTIL you start giving it to undocumented Democrats that didn't contribute.  Nobody wants to do away with it, dumbasses.  You can't.  It needs reforming and yes, privatized.  Besides, you mumbling dickheads keep telling us, in your selective reality way, how wonderful the market does under your  ........ *ahem* .....stewardship" (all the while neglecting that, during 80% of those times, it was under a REPUBLICAN congress.)   :bird:

In my volunteer work for a local charity I see fewer people on the dole than those on DU.  The ones I see are mostly very reserved about the fact and tell me it's temporary.  They don't see it as a way of life, a point of pride or the entitlement that DUmmies do.

My attitude is, any budget cuts, no matter who else they affect, are "good" if they compel the Odin2005 primitive to walk the sidewalks in pursuit of a job.

Lazy sluggard, the Odin2005 primitive.

If Odin would humble himself, and listen to franksolich, he would take such sage advice.
It's just hard for Dummies like him to realize that franksolich has Odin's best interests at heart, and only wants what's best for Odin.
But like all libs they won't listen to reason or good honest advice.

If they ever gave their email address to any left leaning website for any reason their mailbox would be flooded with "give us money" emails saying pretty much the same thing. Give us money or the evil GOP will take your Obama phone away."  :whatever:

Gee that sounds just rotten.  And a drain on the health too!  How did you ever let yourself get in that situation?

Get a load of her, resenting the fact that other people may resent her picking their pockets.  What a piece of work shit.

The security paradox. In order to have it you often have to take a lot of big risks.

3. Sounds like we're in much the same boat.

Social Security and food stamps. I'm in the process of re-qualifying, always an edifying and pleasant experience (yes, that was sarcasm). I was told to be available for a phone interview tomorrow, had to rearrange a couple things to accomodate that; God help you if you inconvenience them with a scheduling request. Won't know for a couple of weeks whether my benefit will increase, decrease, or stay the same.

Meanwhile, after rent and bills I typically have well less than $75 to cover OTC meds, incidentals, and food when the stamps run out (they typically stretch 2-3 weeks).

I'm in my third decade of dealing with this, and in all that time there has been one occasion wherein I was greeted by name. We no longer have case workers, we have technicians (further de-humanizing we clients). As a matter of course, we are treated with suspicion and impatience.

For the benefit of right-wingers reading here: My refrigerator and stove came with the apartment. My microwave came from friends who were remodeling, my big box-like television from other friends who were upgrading to flat screen. My clothing comes from Goodwill and other thrift shops. Welcome to "high on the hog".

You're dicking around on the internet. That's $40 bucks or more a month. Whose choice is that?  Yours.
