Some very silly ones, as well as carefully references to the Night Of The Gay Long Knives. This one really caught my eye:

87. Interesting anecdote on Bobbolink.
I offered her up my family's hunting cabin out near Bastrop... about 40 miles east of Austin. No one was using it and I felt terrible about her having to spend another cold winter in Colorado.
It's a one room cabin with a small kitchen and bathroom on 2 acres. I told her that she could stay there but would need to cover her own expenses as far as gas and electricity. She agreed. She even had her sponsor call me about the place. I told her I could help her for a few months until she got settled and found a job. I agreed to buy her groceries and cover the electricity until she could get settled.
She had me take pictures and send them to her. Things seemed to be going okay until she started bitching about not having wi-fi or carpet and also not having central air and heat. ( there are window units) I explained to her that this was a temporary place until she got re-settled into a new place and that my cabin wasn't perfect but it was better than living in her car on the streets!
After all of that she trashed me and stalked me VIA PM and DU. I even sent her a 75.00 gift certificate on the advice of her sponsor at Wal Mart and she bitched about that she would NEVER go to wally world. I finally gave up and put her on ignore. I have no idea what ever happened to her.

18. Oh yeah... the periodic (but persistent) unrec wars were always epic.
It always amazed me that some people would actually sit there and watch the rec/unrec tallies change, and then complain that unrecs were showing up almost immediately.
Like they're being !!!unrec stalked!!! for some reason

A HERETIC I AM (13,480 posts)
25. i don't recall that.
The person I am speaking of was perpetually homeless, or so she would have us all beleive.
Apparently several DU'ers reached out to her in an attempt to help, only to be met with vitriol, for some strange reason. It seems to me she had some serious mental health issues but never seemed to avail herself of any kind of free assistance. I tried to be kind to her when I interacted with her, but her participation in the thread(s) I am speaking of just pushed me over the edge. It was clear she wasn't playing with a full deck, so to speak.
Anyway.....I'm sorry she had/has difficulties, but I have little sympathy for people who prefer to complain about their lot in life instead of accepting or seeking readily available assistance.

109. I LOVED Nuclear Ignore. I can't remember exactly what it was but I remember one poster having a shit ton of DUers on Nuclear Ignore and it was hilarious.
Was it the ability to ignore people and they couldn't post in your threads and the lists of who was ignored was visible? Something like that I think.

110. Pretty much.
It was the ability to not only ignore but also block people from the threads you started, but with an added twist. The mods really used to enforce the "don't carry over arguments from other threads" policy. So, you would have certain DUers post something to start a flame war, ban anyone that posted in opposition to them, then alert on any thread started in rebuttal (because it was carrying over an argument). It got insane in GD very quickly.
I remember one poster (I think it was the one that started the douchebag thread) had an ignore list hundreds of DUers long.
It's amazing how many DUmmies celebrate their insanity.

22. I have a question about Andy.
Did anybody KNOW he was dying? I mean, on DU?
Or was that -- as is most likely the case -- the reason the family asked for privacy?
I just had no idea, and am very upset.

66. Pancreatic cancer
is a pretty grim diagnosis to start with. When Andy was first subjected to attacks about his diagnosis, he sent me bills with diagnostics laid out. I checked with several friends of my including a retired ICU/hospice nurse (lots of oncology background). She confirmed the procedures as involving PC and told me the prognosis was quite poor.
I never said this publicly and never mentioned it to Andy. I just hoped...

Ah, good ol' Crazy Beth...I don't recall seeing any mention of her endless squabbles with anyone daring to criticize Chavez in there, but there were some epic flames around that topic.

This is a good find DAT. Heh. They have some really epic threads showing up on there. That shopping cart thread alone, is worth the row over!

How Many Ways Can You Fry Chicken?
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 11:48 AM by slinkerwink
C'mon...I want to hear your special techniques for frying chicken pieces or chicken tenders! The only way I know how is to crush kellog's flakes, have an egg batter, and dip the chicken breast into the egg batter, and then onto the crushed kellog's flakes, then back into the egg batter, and back onto the crushed kellog's flakes, and then fry in an inch or two inches of oil, and turn over in six minutes, and take out after the other side has been fried.

What kind of nasty-ass yankee bullshit is that??? Do you put them in a bowl and pour ****ing milk on them?? :wtf:

And I have never heard of it. Real southern cooking existed long before cereal was invented (which was 100 years or so ago). Sounds like something tacky from a Bisquick box to this southerner.

And it's not corn flakes to fry chicken---that'd be physically impossible to do. You cover it in crushed corn flakes after dipping it in egg or milk, and then fry it in oil.

80. Once you reach perfection, you stick with it...don't fix something that...
ain't broken.
My fried chicken is perfection. The only way I would alter it is to put a little cayenne in once in awhile, or to fry it in peanut oil.
But I sure as hell ain't going to take a 5 dollar chicken and coat it with corn flakes.
Corn flakes for breakfast.
Fried chicken (flour dredged) for dinner. Never the twain shall meet.

The RB TexLa I don't drink with you one was funny. That DUmmy is misfit weirdo.
Why would the phrase "I don't drink with you" upset someone?
At a party with my wife's co-workers one woman kept asking me if I wanted a drink. I told her no thank you each time, after several offers she asked why I didn't want a drink and I said "I don't drink with you." I was there to accompany my wife to a party with her co-workers, it was not appropriate for me to consume their food and beverages.

I do drink, but it was not appropriate for me to drink or eat with my wife's co-workers at their party and I was not going and did not. I was simply there to accompany her.

I was only there because I am her spouse. It would not have been appropriate for me to have eaten their food, drink their stuff or attempted to dominate conversations.

184. Nonsense
Of course it was appropriate to eat their food or drink their stuff (it's never appropriate to dominate conversation). As the spouse and escort of an invitee, you are also an invitee, whether you work with these people or not. There is no logic in your self-imposed ideas of etiquette and, in fact, you have violated all conventional etiquette by behaving as you did. It is simply impolite to attend a party but simply stand around not eating or drinking or interacting. And it's rude to use a phrase such as you used when offered refreshment.
What makes me scratch my head in wonder is the fact that you actually don't seem to understand what would be offensive about saying, "I don't drink with you."

You've got issues dude! Issues! And this whole, what? What? Little boy shrug thing you've got going on would seriously turn any woman off! If you really honestly didn't think it appropriate for you to consume food or drink at this party then you shouldn't have been there at all. For one it creeps people out, another is........it's a damn party that's what people do at parties they eat, they drink etc.

In many places "I don't drink with you" is fighting words. At the very least it is extremely rude.

Around me, it would have elicited a very terse "get the f#%k out" with a follow up of an invitation to never come back.

No doubt. I could almost hear the DUmmy ending that sentence with "your kind."

My favorite example of DU mass hysteria was their belief that Nick Berg was actually beheaded by Blackwater operatives as a propaganda move to gain support for the Iraq war. Their sole piece of evidence to bolster the theory was the white plastic chair that he was sitting in prior to his murder. Many DUmmies were convinced that white plastic chairs were unavailable in the ME, and that it was proof that the video was fake. The threads about the chairs went on for months.
