Just got my ACA premium notice for next year

and, I guess it doesn't matter what the Supreme Court does now, because I can't afford the increase.

My premium went from $27.55/month to $101.67/month.

On a fixed income, I simply cannot afford that. My widow benefits from SS are going up 1.7% and ACA is going up like a rocket.

So, I guess I go back to 30 yrs. with a chronic disease and uninsured.

At least I don't have to wait for the Repbulicans to **** me over. Humana did it for them.

This one is brand new but could end up being fun!

88. THIS is what many here are glossing over

Changing plans is not easy. Most likely they will need to find a new doctor. If they find something with affordable monthly premiums, their deductibles will likely rise. Their copayments will rise.

Going from Silver to Bronze is a big deal. Are people just suppose to pay the same money for less healthcare and a more restrictive network each year so they can afford SOMETHING?

This stinks.

Quote
Glitterati (2,567 posts)

90. I have no intention of doing that.

None. I won't buy garbage insurance. And the Bronze plans are pure garbage.

I already pay someone to take out the trash each week, not paying some insurance company to do the same for nothing. And Bronze plans are worse than nothing - they are false security.

for those who choose to opt out. I think it's moving to around $300 for individuals, up from $95 this year.

Well DUmmy, since there was not enough stupid young healthy people to sign up for o'care to take care of sick old people plus the anticipated demand for "free" healthcare that will come from the 4 million+ illegal aliens obama is going to grant amnesty to, you need to STFU and pay the increased premium like a good little o-bot.

140. Truly mazes me how many people here think changing insurance plans every year is a good idea.

You have a gripe and I'm glad you let it out. Sorry about your situation. I really find it hard to believe all of these people jumping on you because open enrolment is here. Like it isn't a big deal, just change plans. These people are not based in reality and have no clue that their idea alone is a reason to gripe. Ohhh, you just have to change plans. That's all. So easy. What they are supporting is the exact opposite of stability. They are actually arguing that the ACA is in opposition to stability. How many hours will be wasted, primarily by those receiving the subsidy, will be used finding a new plan. Because those in poverty(not saying you as I don't know) don't have enough on their plate.

143. And changing doctors with those plan changes

And, yes, I live in poverty on a fixed income of widow's benefits SS.

There is exactly ONE Dr. who takes any ACA plans here.

This is gonna be REAL interesting.

But, no big deal, right? Just change plans.

Buy a Bronze plan that isn't worth the paper it's printed on!

Insurance! You have insurance.

Yeah, Obama! Go, Obama! Bow down to the great and mighty Obama!

This thread is growing quite rapidly and the gyrations are great!

I waited to sign on and start, just because I figured what's the rush since it doesn't go into effect until next year.......

Anyway, I saw several plan available for myself and my daughter that range from $85.00 - 150.00 per month for insurance. We have both been uninsured almost my entire life and for my daughter's entire 18 years on this planet. What a relief even the lowest paying plan will bring to us!

I have a chronic, pre-existing condition and those are my prices! I'm floored. Of course, we're poor and if our teabagger Governor had accepted Medicaid, our premiums would have been free, but I'm not complaining! We'll have insurance! Now, I just have to talk with my doctors to see which plan they are networked in.

It stinks and probably comes as quite a shock to many.  It's too bad that people couldn't have found out about the premium increases a little earlier and had a chance to prepare.  I wonder what happened?

Those planning to purchase health insurance on the Obamacare exchange will soon find out how much rates have increased — after the Nov. 4 election.

Enrollment on the Healthcare.gov website begins Nov. 15, or 11 days after the midterm vote, and critics who worry about rising premium hikes in 2015 say that’s no coincidence. Last year’s inaugural enrollment period on the health-care exchange began Oct. 1.

“This is more than just a glitch,” said Tim Phillips, president of free-market Americans for Prosperity, in a Friday statement. “The administration’s decision to withhold the costs of this law until after Election Day is just more proof that Obamacare is a bad deal for Americans.”

Okay, so the glittering primitive's in a pinch, and one feels for her.

An older woman on an income (actually social security) that's not likely to go up enough to match the increase in the cost of her medical insurance.

Not an unusual experience; we've all gone through times where income didn't rise as much as expenses, and yeah, it's a bitch.

But some of us seem to manage.

The increase in the monthly premium's about eighty bucks.

I'm assuming--although I may be way off, and admit it--she pays about forty bucks a month for internet, and forty bucks a month for cable television.

Get rid of those luxuries, and she's able to pay her medical insurance.

The rest of us have done things similar to that, to make ends meet, and made our ends meet.

Now how are we going to get rid of it or is it like Herpes?

Earlier Charles Krauthammer said that Republicans should kill this bill with a thousand cuts by repealing certain aspects of it,  like the tax on medical devices and all the mandates.  It's also being taken up by the Supreme Court which could give it the final blow.

I can't feel bad for her Coach.  This is what the party she votes for pushed into law. She wanted this.  She couldn't be bothered to inform herself of the facts where the legislation was concerned, very probably due to ideology - she is a dummy after all. Surely my suggestion, later given upthread, about how she needs to get tough and deal with it, belies that.

We've all had to make hard choices--I have, you have--choices much more difficult than giving up the internet and cable television so as to pay for medical insurance.  There isn't any reason she shouldn't have to make them too.

441. I can't even get my head around a $27 health insurance premium.

My insurance premium for a traditional family coverage plan from Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), with a prescription drug plan plus vision and dental is $1,150 per month. Office visits are a $30 copay. Emergency room is a $250 copay. Other procedures are 80/20 (insurance pays 80%, I pay 20%). Annual deductible is $3,000 per family member. Maximum yearly out of pocket is $5,000.

I've had essentially the same BCBS plan for about 15 years. The premiums have increased on average about 6% per year, every year, and the deductibles and out of pocket maximum have crept up steadily over the years as well. 15 years ago my premium was $480 per month.

The premium increases since the full implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) have been smaller than the past average. There is more competition, and more providers and plans available now through the ACA marketplace. My existing plan is grandfathered and BCBS is still supporting it. But I'll probably get a new plan through the marketplace soon. There are plans available now that are as good or better at a lower price.

Yo idiot, it's because YOU don't have others paying for YOUR insurance!  I love how there's a couple on there acting like the money to pay for others insurance just falls from the sky from some God they call 'Uncle Sam'.

Gliterrati has posted the letter she received MULTIPLE times and this VanillaRhapsody person just won't give it a rest.  The letter clearly states the $110 is with the subsidy but VR won't take that as an answer due to the exchanges not being open.  The $110 is based on last years subsidy and without it Glit would have paid $577/month.  VR thinks that if Glit will simply wait until the exchange opens the payment will go WAY down ...

their new premium is based off their 2014 subsidy. This could be different this year and would impact the premium. Would it be more or less, we don't know (including the OP) but the unsubsidized hit is the $577.xx amount not what you are trying to paint, that amount is heavily subsidized as common sense should tell you because virtually no one would have an unsubsidized annual cost of 1,200 bucks.

You both had comprehension errors but you are WAY OFF. The OP is significantly closer to factual here.

It's all a conspiracy by the insurance companies!!!!!!!!!!

Common Core.

I think it was Gruber math.

They can always drop their silver plan and go with the cyanide plan......much cheaper plan....one small lifetime payment.

It is the single payer solution democrats are aiming for.
To tell the truth I'd like to see more leftards use that plan.   :-) :fuelfire:

Did she med she mention if her healthy young daughter bought insurance? you know to pay for all the sickies?

This really gets me.  I've got two young-ish bleeding hearts in the neighborhood who are now weeping to anyone who'll listen that they can't afford their insurance.   Both were gung ho for ACA; couldn't wait for it to become law.  Now, they say they'll just pay the fine.

Some if not all young skulls full of mush just have to learn the hard way. Once they learn it, then they can own it.

since I pay no taxes on my unearned income.

Oh the IRS will find out dummie. They are gonna hunt you down and freeze/seize your unearned income. It may take them a while to do it, could be years, but it will happen. Trust me on this dummie.

I hope you are still posting at DU when that happens.  The wailing and gnashing of your two remaining teeth will be glorious!

The DUmmy will just blather on about income inequality and demand that the rich pay his obamacare fines.

It's sweet that some of you guys feel sorry for her.

But...she's a DUmmy democrat.

I hope she starves in the dark.

Like my niece, the Doctor. While in Med School, she spent 6 or 8 hours in a line to have Hillary sign a book, I believe it was the village idiot book. Anyway, she was your typical college liberal, until she started her internship and got her first paycheck. Granted, Intern pay isn't all that great, the payoff for Doctors is in their specialty, skill and the location of their practice. But, that experience, the Fed and State Tax Withholding turned her into a staunch republican overnight.

It's so wonderful watching them maul each other after they collectively cheered the Roberts decision.

My, how their jubilant victory has turned to bitter ashes in their mouths.

Any wagers on how many posts it will reach and which faction will prevail?

750, and the 100% Obama sycophants will beat the 99%ers.

There's too much joy opportunity to count.

Will the thread get locked,
Will there be alerts,
Will there be hidden posts
Will it generate 1 or more ignores,
Will it fill the field for DOTY,
Will it generate at least one tombstone ?

I dunno. It seems ObamaCoup can't scratch up 50-50 support these days, even among the Proglodytes.

I think Gruber insulted the base and the base doesn't like having their stupidity so blatantly pointed out to them by their masters.
