Title: Profiles in DUmmyhood: louis-t

I have never been to a protest, but today I will protest Wal-Mart.

I was invited to protest Wal-Mart's Black Thursday promotion. So, today at 4:30 EST, I will carry a sign at the Roseville, MI store. I have been inside a Wal-Mart once in my 58 years. I have a long history of disdain for that corporation going back to their "Made in America" fiasco in the '90s. I hope there's no tear gas. I hate tear gas.....

Let us deconstruct, and in so doing we will have built a profile in DUmmyhood. I am not sure we have deconstructed louis-t, who has otherwise managed 14,000 posts without being highlighted much (to my knowledge, anyway).

1. louis-t intends to attend a protest at a WalMart, the point of which is to decry other people ALSO milling around outside the same WalMart a few days later, only they intend to buy something.

2. louis-t by his own admission has exactly one instance in 58 years of interaction with WalMart, yet somehow he is entitled to speak some sort of truth to power, again while holding heaven knows what sort of sign outside a WalMart in a town that no one has ever heard of.

3. louis-t believes, or at least fears, that the force of his activism will induce the local police (Roseville, MI, a northern suburb of Detroit) to use tear gas against him and his fellow protestors. TEAR GAS. AT A PROTEST OVER WALMART SELLING ITEMS TO PEOPLE WHO GO THERE TO BUY THEM. Let us allow that to soak in (and in so doing, we will have soaked in more stupidity than louis-t will have soaked in tear gas): a DUmmy planning to engage in perhaps the least effective and inconsequential protest in history (alongside certain big-nosed women standing in a ditch) fears that his efforts will be rebuffed by TEAR GAS.

To which I say, louis-t, take heart: if the local fuzz busts out tear gas, at least ALL THE MAJOR NETWORKS AND MOST INTERNATIONAL NEWS AGENCIES COVERING YOUR PROTEST OF WALMART'S NORMAL BUSINESS OPERATIONS will pick it up, and the world's airwaves will buzz with the injustice. You know, like this:

Damn.

That's an awesome post.

You just captured the entire essence of primitivity, saying and showing this.

<<<awestruck.

UPDATE:

Here's louis-t dealing with the fuzz at his protest:

How can the louis-t primitive hate tear gas if he's never tried it?

Now, why'd you go and delete your original post?

That was s-o-o-o-o-o-o good I can't tell you how good it was.

What was wrong with it?

I meant to add the next pic as a reply but ended up revising the OP. Stupid, stupid me.

That happens.  In this case it's too bad though, because that was s-o-o-o-o good.

It's been years, but one time I meant to quote an original post by GOBUCKS--a most remarkable, witty original post--but I hit "modify" rather than "post," and ooops, a classic example of GOBUCKS' style vanished into thin air, unrecoverable.

Thank you!  I wish I could get this message across half as good as you did, about how the primitives really are.

The idea of Wal-Mart setting aside only one day every week to promote black people was just too much. I'm guessing that's what set him off.

       FOLLOWUP

       2. I stand with these workers.

Last night in freezing temps, I went to my first protest. I am 58. There were only 4 of us, but there were many more at the other stores in the area. We lasted about an hour before the sun went down.

Whew! I was really worried, along with louis-t, that the cops would have to drag out the tear gas. Of course, they MIGHT have, seeing as how labor activist par excellence louis-t hit the bricks when it got dark. Maybe his mommy called him home. Or maybe it was Matlock.

That's almost as poignant as WillPitt's story of standing in a ditch with Cindy Sheehan, wearing a silly hat while being eaten alive by fire ants as the shotgun blasts roared and the bottled water supply began to dwindle.

Hmmm. 5 people protesting for a whole hour.

We will rule forever.

Where I come from, we call that "loitering".

If they'd done it in the morning, somebody would've rolled up is a dualie and asked them if any two of them could hang drywall for forty bucks a day and lunch.

The DUmmies would have expected someone to roll up (with) joints . . .

"Ummmm, EXCUSE ME. We require a CONTRACT, which states that we do not work for less that $20 an hour. We'd like to know what sort of pension we'll get from this day of work,
how you intend to handle our healthcare costs, and what ADA provisions you've made. Oh, and I need an advance on my salary and the day off, as I intended to buy some weed and
watch MSNBC all day. Make sure you pay me by check, so I know you're paying payroll taxes."

Not all malcontents are condemned to protest unremitted. Gruber took the American people for about 3 million so far. Good work if you can get it.
