Title: Polar Vortex survivors check in, please.
Post by: Mr Mannn on November 11, 2014, 11:33:40 AM
I'm in Des Moines. Its 25 degrees out with a howling wind. Today's high will be 34 degrees.
we got a dusting of snow, but that's it for this vortex. Minneapolis is set for 14 inches of snow!

Please check in if you've survived this vortex.
If you didn't...well, that's just creepy.

I don't live in the Great White North.  Is it normal to get snow in November?

Sure is.  Doesn't mean we have to like it.

Only a light dusting here, unlike Minneapolis and other places north.

Out here in the Salt Lake area it's partly cloudy and a balmy 47°. We aren't supposed to get our share of this until Thurs/Fri at the earliest, though we're getting some wicked winds through the canyons. (gusting 75 - 85 kts)

We hit a balmy 31° this afternoon.  It's not going to get that warm tomorrow, and starting about 13:00 if the system's pattern holds, we have snow coming.

You're talking about cars that aren't driven every day or couple of days right?

We have a self-propelled lawn mower with electric start, and after sitting in the shed all winter started up the first time this spring.

When I had my Mustang (don't get excited; it was a '78 'Super Pinto') I had the battery give out on me after being left out a single night in single digit temperatures.

We had a long stretch of below-freezing weather last winter.  It got down to 11 or 12 degrees a few nights, which is the coldest I can remember it ever being here.

We had to replace the battery in our 2002 Saturn 2 years ago, but it was the original battery.

But warm weather's moving your direction, from here.

Temperature 17 degrees this morning, with wind-chill 6 degrees.

Those are positives, not minuses.

And it's going right your way.

It was 11 degrees here last night.
On the way home I had to listen (on AM radio) to a new report about how the polar bear population is down most likely to glow bull warming and the shrinking of the ice cap.
I thought AlGoreManBearPig promised us the arctic ice cap would be gone by now.

The Buffalo Bills have to move 220,000 tons of snow from their stadium, to be able to play Sunday.  They're offering people off the street (assuming they can get out of their own homes) $10 an hour and tickets to a Bills game to help out.  They will have to shovel starting now, and going straight through to game time, to keep from having to play on Monday instead.
