Title: Conservatives Must Stop the GOP from Going Soggy
Post by: txradioguy on November 06, 2014, 05:08:47 AM
The Republican wave that swept across the country on Tuesday night was the product of the American people fed up with the Obama agenda. Not because there was an army of attractive candidates and well run campaigns.

Yet, in the midst of the wave sweeping across the country, the new House GOP Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy went on Fox News and came across as nothing less than completely tone deaf.

When asked what specifically the Republican majority would do if they gained the Senate, his response was to look at Energy policy (Skip to - 0:09). Yes, he said Energy policy. Then tax reform and education reform. Why those things? Because as he said, they have to “show the American people they can govern.”

The American people didn’t elect Republicans far and wide on Tuesday so that they can push squishy domestic agenda and play nice in Congress.

They elected Republicans to STOP THE OBAMA AGENDA and rein in his lawless executive actions. Specifically, Obamacare, amnesty, and the widespread growth of government agencies with no accountability to Congress – think IRS, NSA, CDC, etc.

But how about some energy bills? But we knew this was coming, it’s just more soggy white bread.

Worse than that though? The very first thing McCarthy wants to see happen with a GOP majority in the House and Senate? A congressional retreat. (Skip to - 0:52)

Seriously, he said a retreat so that Congress can all get together, hold hands, and come out with a unified stale and flaccid agenda focusing on things like energy, tax reform, and education.

But what about amnesty and Obamacare?

Well, as far as what he would tell the president (Skip to 1:40) regarding executive unconstitutional amnesty is that it’s the “wrong approach.”

If that isn’t bold leadership, I don’t know what is.

And Obamacare? Megyn Kelly pressed him on whether he’d push to repeal it (Skip to 2:09). His answer, “repeal and replace.” He couldn't even give a straight answer. Folks - that isn't a good sign.

And there you have it, more soggy white bread from the tone-deaf House Majority Leader. This is why we said that the days immediately following the election were more important than Election Day itself.

I think the reason that the R's took the Senate is because of all the undecided cross-over voters.  I listened to a lot of the new Senators on election night and they were all saying they wanted to work with the other side and not be partisan.

We'll see how it goes, but I have the feeling that conservatives will not be thrilled.

Gingrich made that mistake in the 90s - thinking that he had an unshakeable majority mandate when what he actually had was a firm base vote, far short of a majority, and a lot of those swing voters who were disgusted with the Bill and Hill show.  He grossly overplayed his hand and damaged the Republican brand with his arrogance and hubris, sowing the seeds of future problems from the 2000 elections onward.

The country did not turn solid Conservative overnight.  It would be a grave mistake to act like it had.

That is why we should not be complacent.

Here is a fine young man with a solid understanding of what it is going to take to put Washington on solid footing.  Conservative principles.
It has been said almost in jest that the nation has never done better than during those times the government was shut down. Only, it is not a joke. That is a fact. You will see running through Senator Lee's outline a strong sense that the best thing for Washington to do is less. That highlights in his suggestion to repeal Obama Care.
I am thinking the Dems realize Obama care was just as much a mistake as the man, himself, and that the resistance will not be as strong as suspected. Just think if Washington had acted to reformulate Social Security as soon as people realized it was flawed, 1958-1964, somewhere in there, how much better off we would all be today.
Like the Senator says, most welfare money does not really go to the end user, or for the intent of it.
