What's all this talk of using the veto pen and executive orders I'm reading here. That's not the way real Democratic president's behave. That's the way immature children think.
After the midterms in 1994, President Clinton received a wake-up call. But he didn't pick up a veto pen, he got with the new leadership and started negotiating. From that point on, he got quite a bit accomplished and not long afterwards the economy started humming right along (impeachment notwithstanding).
Last night, President Obama received his wake-up call. Question will be is he smart enough to answer it correctly, like Clinton did.
Obama doesn't need to pick up the veto pen, he needs to pick up the telephone. If he's smart, he will. He has a meeting Monday at the WH (from the news reports I heard) with what will be the new leadership in Congress, and that would be a great time to start. Let's see if he has the same political savy as Clinton. We'll know in just a few months. But if he starts pulling this "veto pen" and "executive order" nonsense instead of negotiating and compromising, then he'll be announcing to the world he never was really ready for primetime.
But suggesting this "use the veto pen talk" and "executive order" nonsense are for those who have no business even thinking about politics, much less expressing their immature opinions on it.

I don't think he's as smart as Clinton. I didn't like Clinton, but at least he could read the tea leaves and knew what he had to do. We can only hope the current dimwit will be so bright.
Of course the primitives won't like it if he were to do that. So I'll guess we'll see if Dear Leader will listen to the more practical of his party or if he bends over for the kooks.

It's a very sound piece of advice, of course Obama is by nature totally incapable of following it, nothing in his previous experience would prepare him for it, and all of his closest advisers would be dead-set against it.

They're not viable. Being a liberal doesn't mean being off the wall. Your political viewpoint don't deserve political representation at ANY legislative level.
At some point you need to decide if you're going to be whatever it is you think you are or whether you want to be a real member of the Democratic Party. I put my money where my mouth is to the tune of over $100K/yr. They love me. And you're what??

and guess what, sweetie? My viewpoints are represented: My Senators are Pat Leahy and Bernie. My rep is Peter Welch. My governor (by a hair) is Peter Shumlin and the Vermont legislature and elected officials in my state represent my viewpoints.

The presidential veto is a perfectly legitimate exercise of power. I realize that you're salivating for a republican right wing agenda, but you are in the wrong place.

Sorta. There were 4 major reasons the economy started humming right along and the (R) Congress kept TheRapist from screwing it up.

The difference is this:
Bill Clinton is an amiable sociopath who stands for absolutely nothing except getting his end wet in every female who crosses his path, and in his amoral but clever brain he basically understands that having more people like him, and having more power, is critical to that primary goal.
Barack Hussein Obama actually believes all his own stupid bullshit Liberal ideology, and is too arrogant to consider that the people who disagree with him on anything might be right, and therefore he inevitably ends up thinking they are evil, and the ends justify the means to achieve his goals.
No, triangulation is totally out of the question for Obama.
