Joni the REMF and false equivalency (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025757479)
The very far right has been working overtime to cast Joni Ernst as the Republican Tammy Duckworth: a brave female war hero who went to Iraq and returned to seek a life of public service. Comparing their service will make you curse.
On November 12, 2004, an Iraqi insurgent put an RPG-7 round through the floor of the cockpit of the Black Hawk helicopter the then-Captain Duckworth was co-piloting into a hot area. It took one of her legs completely off, the other half off and broke one arm in three places. Tammy Duckworth is, undeniably, a hardcore troop.
Captain Ernst, OTOH, was commander of a truck company. I've dealt with people like her. They're administrators. In the combat arms, an infantry company commander knows how to patrol, an artillery battery commander knows how to fire a mission and a tank company commander is assigned to a tank. In combat support and service support (she was service support), that's not the case. Combat troops call people like her "REMFs" - rear-echelon mother ****ers.
It irritates the hell out of me hearing Joni Ernst referred to as a "combat veteran." She was an Iraq veteran, but the only place she probably saw any combat was on TV.
If you had any balls, you'd go lie in front of a tank. Since you won't, I'll call you a chicken-dove. :bird:

Libs love to wage war on women they see as a threat.

I haven't heard anyone comparing the two (except this moron). She faced IEDs, mortars and ambushes. And, like most real veterans, she doesn't make a big deal of it. You can tell by this post, the only thing this pud knows about the military it learned in comic books.

It was brought up by a few scattered liberals, mostly in letters to the editor or this silly "my 2 cents" column in the DM Register.
Having not served in the military, I would never even contemplate the thought of making a comment about what type of service one did. I know that Joni Ernst did several tours in Iraq, that is good enough for me. You're right, she doesn't bring her service up often. So while I'm sure she's proud of having served, she doesn't rely on that as a cornerstone of her campaign. Rather refreshing to me. Adam Kinzinger in Illinois is another like this as well.
Edit to add - I hope Kinzinger is being groomed for higher office. Have heard him on the radio quite often. He is incredibly well-spoken, from what I understand quite telegenic, and has done very nice work on behalf of his constituents in Illinois.

She still has bigger balls than him and she's attractive :-)

If Joni Ernst is going to be a face of the party, I pray that someone will persuade her to lose that horrendous laugh that erupts from her after every other sentence.
Two gender-specific habits prevent many women from being taken seriously in spoken communications: "uptalking", and inappropriate laughter.
Joni Ernst is assertive enough to avoid that stupid uptalking trait, but she's the worst laugher I ever heard. Worse even than the Hildebeast.

Tammy Duckworth I'm sure served with honor in the military BUT she is still a democrat political hack;
Illinois Democrat Rep. Tammy Duckworth used her time Wednesday defending Admiral Mullen: “I was there the day Admiral Mullen testified, and I have to disagree with you.â€
“You may question his professional integrity, but when Admiral Mullen, a man that served in Vietnam — 43 years of military service, defending this great nation — comes before this committee and swears an oath of office and then testifies he was fiercely independent in the ARB, I would tend to believe him.â€
Keil responded to Duckworth’s statement by reminding the Illinois Democrat that Mullen testified under oath that he disclosed ARB proceedings to other State Department officials.
“It’s a statement of fact; it’s not a subjective judgement.â€

The Trans Companies this moron is referring to had to run a deadly gauntlet every freaking day to get supplies to the Forward Operatin Bases (FOB's) in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Route Irish was particularly bloody at times. SO was the Log run from Taji to Baghdad or trying to get supplies from Kandahar to the FOB's in RC South.
IED's land mines and ambushes. Convoy's are prime targets in the type of war we're fighting now. There's no definitive front you drive out the gate and you're in the middle of the shit.
They may get called REMF's by a few dumbass 11 Bush and 19 series tread heads but the fact of the matter is....those guys wouldn't fire a single shell bullet or mortar without "REMF's" in a Trans unit getting them the stuff to fight with.
Once again a DUMmie proves they know dick about the military.

Look up what happened at Vyazma, Anzio, and Arnhem when airborne or rangers ran into armor units, let's just say it didn't turn out like the wouldn't-actually-work ending of Private Ryan.
:rotf:
By the way, DUmmies, (And not to take anything away from Tammy Duckworth) Blackhawks are just flying trucks, they're just a little more difficult to hit than the kind that has to stay on roads. For a couple of pretty intense years in Iraq before the surge, the ground truck supply convoys were taking more hits (And casualties) from RPGs and left-over folding-fin air-to-ground rockets fired from improvised launchers than any of the infantry, MP, or aviation units. It's the nature of insurgent war that the combat service support forces are the most productive target for the insurgents to hit.

Hey DUmmie, F**k you and your liitle rump ranger buddies. You are a piece of s**t and I hate you and your kind. If you are too much of a bitch to join me in combat, then just shut the f**k up. By the way, I have some pretty nasty pictures of fuel tankers and what happens to them in a ambush. There is a reason we had armor and armor spray put on all fuel tankers in country. As a side note a lot of convoy security and gun trucks are made up from combat support and combat service support soldiers. :bird: :bigbird:

Wasn't one of the first casualties of Iraq a woman on one of those supply convoys?
On March 23, 2003, Private First Class Lynch was serving as a unit supply specialist with the 507th Maintenance Company when her convoy was ambushed by Iraqi forces during the Battle of Nasiriyah. Lynch was seriously injured and captured. Her subsequent recovery by U.S. Special Operations Forces on April 1, 2003, received considerable media coverage and was the first successful rescue of an American prisoner of war since Vietnam and the first ever of a woman.
