A member of the Colorado Board of Education said the United States ended slavery “voluntarily†while defending a revised, nationalistic history curriculum for AP students. Some conservative counties in the state have adopted the new curriculum to protest the current national Advanced Placement U.S. History (APUSH) curriculum.
And...
“As an example, I note our slavery history,†Mazanec wrote. “Yes, we practiced slavery. But we also ended it voluntarily, at great sacrifice, while the practice continues in many countries still today! Shouldn’t our students be provided that viewpoint? This is part of the argument that America is exceptional.

I notice no one made mention of the fact that slavery DOES still exist in other countries. Tsk, tsk, that reality based community makes themselves look stupid again. :-)

That's kind of how I looked at the comment. WE as a country put a stop to slavery IN OUR OWN COUNTRY.
The more the left tries the twist the past to suit their own needs the more confused the rest of us get.

I have to wonder what they thought actually forced the US, as a whole, to give up slavery. Of course, it wouldn't do to admit that Christians and Republicans fought for years to get rid of it. ::)

And conveniently yet again, the DUmmies ignore the FACT that the southern Democrats wanted to continue slavery, created the Ku Klux Klan, meanwhile Northern Republicans fought to end slavery.
