DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Officials with the Centers for Disease Control have confirmed that a person in Dallas definitely has the Ebola virus. Tuesday’s official determination makes the patient at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas the first diagnosed Ebola case in the United States.

Officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Texas Department of State Health Services, Presbyterian Hospital and Dallas County Health and Human Services all participated in an afternoon press conference. CDC Director Thomas Frieden related the information that the individual who tested positive had traveled to Liberia. The person left Liberia on September 19 and arrived in the United States on September 20 with no virus symptoms. Frieden said it was four or five days later that the patient, who is believed to be male, began developing symptoms and was ultimately admitted to Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas on Sunday, September 28.

Ebola has founds it way into Dallas.

Why are they letting them come in here? The incubation period is three weeks on this virus.  How many people has he exposed in the last five days?

All they are doing right now is taking their temperature before they board the plane.

They won't even confirm that Patient Zero was an American citizen, or even a legal immigrant but supposedly he flew from Liberia to Brussels to the DC airport, then to Dallas. He wanted to go to Liberia for a funeral.

What did they know in the early 1700's that we do not know  now 300+ years later ????

These ancestors of ours figured out why disease was killing off whole family's in the Americas and put a stop to it as best they could.  Europe also joined in in doing so.

The rise of racism --

Martha Washington was in for a scary time in the North when she was house bound when the city she was staying in up North had an out break of some kind of contagion and people were placing their dead in the streets to be hauled away in carts.      Interesting story's on how she ever made it back South healthy.

What they did in my neck of the woods was , to place all ships coming into port under hold for a month or more perhaps 2 months at bay until all passengers were seen to be healthy.

We do have some  islands that the sick or dead were brought to, today we see people with metal detectors looking for the pits people were just thrown into by the dozens, as is, no one in their right mind back then would rob a plague victim of their belongings.  Today we just go looking for metal buttons  and bows from the dead.

Only way to stop any plague  is to stop any one from arriving from a HOT spot in the world.

Hawaii when I went there in the early 70"s --I could not take my dog as there was a 6 month hold on dogs to insure they did not have rabies.

Friends went to Australia, North West Cape  area 1969 or so. What my girl friend had to go through to get military permission to take kids and her self to join her husband.    Girlfriend had to see 2 doctors to prove she was not pregnant and take steps to insure she did not become so while at the duty station.   She and kids had to get the blue arm shots a month or so before hand,  then came the fun part.

Oh this is a what amazed me, as I had not gotten to Hawaii yet to find out all our Television was one week late due to no ability to at that time to beam the on the spot news from the main land.

She would have no TV, calls from states sides were unless an emergency few and far between------Handled by HAM users about the world.   Good people, I received a few from ports I was not to know about.

OFF SUBJECT--OFF SUBJECT      I know and say I am sorry but when the question of plague comes up this is nothing one can hide or use any kind of weapon against.

I do not trust the CDC, seeing how they handled the AIDS infection, no way do I trust them hand and hand with the government to  stop any disease that is coming to our land by those that carry it.

I heard on the radio this morning that the hospital initially let him go home with antibiotics...he was in contact with people for TWO DAYS while he was sick before being taken in by ambulance. I don't know much about ebola; but I believe once the symptoms start to show is when it starts being contagious.

DALLAS — Health officials are closely monitoring a possible second Ebola patient who had close contact with the first person to be diagnosed in the U.S., the director of Dallas County's health department said Wednesday.

All who have been in close contact with the man diagnosed are being monitored as a precaution, said Zachary Thompson, director of Dallas County Health and Human Services.

You know this could get serious. Say a truck driver gets it and he makes a 2 day coast to coast run while infected but not sick enough yet to stop along the way at a hospital..... Passenger making a long distance trip on a bus....someone goes on an extended traveling vacation.

Not to worry, Obama and the CDC has your back. I am sure Obama will read about it in the paper any day now.

Who Is Thomas Eric Duncan? Ebola In US Victim Identified As Liberia Citizen
http://www.ibtimes.com/who-thomas-eric-duncan-ebola-us-victim-identified-liberia-citizen-1698074

Quote
The first U.S. Ebola victim has been identified as Thomas Eric Duncan, a resident of Monrovia in his mid-40s. Many Americans became fearful Tuesday after it was revealed that someone had contracted the Ebola virus in the U.S.

Although Duncan developed symptoms in the U.S., he apparently contracted the disease in Liberia. He reportedly had direct contact with someone who was stricken with the Ebola virus on Sept. 15, just four days before he departed Liberia to head to the United States, senior Liberian government officials said.

Duncan might have contracted Ebola while trying to save a pregnant woman’s life. Duncan helped take the woman, Marthalene Williams, 19, to the hospital by taxi in Monrovia, Liberia. She was convulsing and seven months pregnant. When they arrived, the hospital said there was not enough room for her in the Ebola treatment ward, so they were forced to return home. She died hours later, around 3 a.m. Sept. 20. Two other people who came into contact with Williams contracted Ebola and died, the Heavy added.

The patient is a Liberian named Thomas Eric Duncan.

One thing about Ebola that no one has been able to explain is, why did doctors who supposedly know how to protect themselves get Ebola ?

When HIV-AIDS was first starting to spread, we were told it could NOT be spread through the mouth or oral sex, yet WebMD says;  "The virus can enter the blood through linings in the mouth, anus, or sex organs". In fact I remember someone "in authority" saying that saliva in the mouth would KILL the virus.

I'm not one to panic about things like this BUT who is telling us the truth about diseases ???  The government CDC ???

To make matters worse, there have been a few stories about the possibility of the virus mutating into an airborne transmittable disease. If that happens, we're screwed.

I guess if there is any consolation, it will take a boatload of those retards who helped make this a reality with their vote right along with it. Even if folks were to shelter in place for several weeks while the incubation period and detection burns through, DU morons can't seem to even keep rations enough to get through until their next EBT card fill to even get through the shelter in place period. They'd either dehydrate or starve before the shelter in place was lifted.

Last night I heard one of the experts say that a sneeze couldn't spread it.  Frankly I think he's nuts, a sneeze is chock full of aerosolized body fluids, and getting droplet of that blasted into your face ought to do it pretty damn' well.  Possibly he was talking about early or middle incubation period, but he didn't qualify his comment in any way.

If it spread very easily, Africa would have a hundred million dead right now, so yeah, I get that it's nowhere near as contagious as the flu.  All the worries about it suddenly mutating into something that will spread like wildfire are also pretty much fear-mongering, the virus has been quite stable as long as it's been known, it's not like the flu virus and there is no particular reason to think it's going to suddenly jump the genetic tracks, unless maybe the virus gets into the bloodstream of a radioactive spider.

However, I also don't have unbounded confidence that the 'Experts' have an absolute 100% lock on every last detail of its mechanism of contagion, it is after all a very rare tropical disease that was unknown to Western medical science until quite recent years.

OTOH, exposing the virus to the various treatments being tried here and in Africa, could speed the mutation process. It may not happen quickly, but it could happen. Look at how many diseases are mutating and becoming resistant to penicillin. I realize penicillin is antibacterial and not antiviral, but flu viruses also mutate to become resistant to current vaccines at times.

Now they're saying this Ebola guy threw up outside of his apartment earlier this week. There are over 100 people that he came into contact with that they're trying to find.

The Liberian government is thinking of pressing charges against him, since, like Patrick in Ethopia this summer, he lied and misled to board an airplane.

This "you're not contagious until you feel sick" thing the CDC is claiming doesn't make any sense to me - there's no other disease that kicks in and automaticaly becomes contagious at that point.

Ebola's not the only problem you should worry about tonight... The bigger one may be misinformation, and sadly, no one seems to want to contain that.

At home, on talk shows, and in the news, we're fussing at the patient, at Presbyterian, and at government officials.

The truth is, if we'd all paid as much attention to Ebola when it was devastating West Africa as we did, say, the wedding of George Clooney, most of the fussing and finger pointing would be behind us.

I don't care about George Clooney's wedding or Dallas Cowboys problems. Sadly, news has been reduced to that.

Isn't that how viruses work?  There is usually an incubation period from the time your exposed to it, until you become contagious.  For me, the question is, are you contagious before you actually start feeling ill?

Too, in my experience, different people have different tolerance to when they "feel ill."  A bit too subjective when dealing with infectious diseases for me.

I can't believe we haven't limited travel from the affected areas.  Silly me.  We have an open border policy now, don't we?

Yeah.  One dr. said that you can start getting sick from ebola, anywhere from two days to three weeks.  Another dr said up to 80 days.  The Texas guy had been exposed on the 15th, left Liberia on the 19th and went to the hospital the first time on the 26th.  It sounds like he came down with it in about 10 days.

CDC Rush to Newark Airport in Hazmat Suits to Remove Vomiting Liberian Passenger

On Saturday at Newark Airport, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials rushed to meet with a United Airlines flight from Brussels and removed a passenger, believed to be from Liberia, suspected of having Ebola.

The CDC crew responded to flight 998 in full hazmat gear and took the man and his daughter to University Hospital in Newark for further evaluation. According to a senior federal official, the passenger was manifesting "flu-like symptoms." The passenger was reportedly vomiting in the plane but did not exhibit other Ebola-like symptoms.

Mass. Doctor Who Battled Ebola Admitted to Hospital
The University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center confirms that Dr. Rick Sacra, who was recovering from Ebola in Holden, was the patient they were evaluating for a possible case of Ebola. Sacra is being treated for respiratory concerns.

Dr. Rick Sacra, the Massachusetts doctor who was treated for and recovered from Ebola, is in a Worcester hospital because of respiratory health concerns, officials announced Saturday.

The University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center confirmed to NECN Saturday night that Sacra was the patient they were examining for a potential case of Ebola, saying he was being treated for "what appears to be an upper respiratory infection."

The hospital says that it is working with the Centers for Disease Control and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

"Dr. Sacra is in stable condition and being monitored carefully," said Dr. Robert Finberg in a statement from UMass Memorial Medical Center. "We're waiting for final test results from the CDC which we expect to receive late Monday."
UMass Memorial said that Sacra would be isolated until the nature of his illness is confirmed.

This is the guy that everyone celebrated as being cured, right?  What if they don't fully understand the virus, and it just went into remission under the treatment protocols, but reemerged under no treatment.

Jackson said the family of the patient — Thomas Duncan — asked him to come to Dallas to help them get some answers from the doctors treating the man. With Duncan's mother, Nowai Korkoyah, at his side, Jackson walked into the South Dallas Café for an early morning prayer session and news conference with the patient's worried family.

"I'm anxious," Jackson said. "I'm concerned that they feel so alienated and so pushed away."

A Dallas Sheriff's deputy has been put into quarantine with ebola symptoms.

He was inside the apartment that Duncan was in, but did not have direct contact with Duncan.

They won't know for sure for 48 hrs.

It usually takes a while for any infection to spread, it is not like one person becomes ill and 2 days after 100 others are sick .

Maine a few years ago had a cluster of children with some infection that took just one sharp eyed Doctor to wonder about the source.      The kids were ill and being brought in to be treated by 4-5 different Doctors that treated them no questions asked.

Fortunately a female Doctor who was up from NYC to cover for a friend on vacation and new to the area with NEW EYES on the community was curious about the source of the infection that was not unheard of but the number of kids  getting the disease was odd for the area.

She on her own contacted the CDC with her questions.  It took months before the CDC sent anyone up to check on this and when they came she received a backlash from not just the medical community but the Town movers and shakers.

Some how he CDC tracked the problem to a very large family of African resettled  residents that had one adult in their family return from a visit to their homeland.  It was never published if the male in question was a carrier, not ill themselves but able to pass the disease onto others.  [ AKA Typhoid Mary ]    This is a big problem with infectious diseases, some may not be able to  have some kind of immunity to the disease but still be able to spread it to others.

The cost to the town and the State was huge, the entire school had to be sanitized from top to bottom.   Parents of the attending children, teachers an staff them selves having family did not want this brought home to their family's.

Dallas hospital insists Ebola victim had the best care 'regardless of nationality or ability to pay' after his family claimed he was treated badly because he was a 'poor black man'

The hospital where Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan died strenuously defended his treatment on Thursday and said he was given the highest level of care 'regardless of nationality or ability to pay'.

The Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas was responding to claims from the 42-year-old Liberian's family that he was given substandard treatment because he was 'a poor black man'.

The hospital said Mr Duncan had been cared for by a team of over 50 doctors and nurses, 24 hours a day.

We can quit our bitchen about Isis wanting woman to cover their heads and faces, bet you the manufactures of surgical face masks  have a crew on stand by to  amp up the line that is fashionable and will come in 60 different colors for men and woman and children.

Who could object to that ???

First the dentists, few outside the home see your teeth, it don't matter if the teeth turn black or green, grow in  upside down or not, no need for braces or replacement teeth.

Company's that make cosmetics , no need for lipstick or wrinkle cream in that area of the face. However I would guess the call for eye makeup would go sky high.

Then will we have to go to the Asians in regards to hand shaking,  will we now have to just nod our head, or dip in curtsy to another woman ?  No hand shake as the disease is still among us .

We are told to use bleach to disinfect our homes,   great until  the bugs become immune to bleach, then what ???

Now the disease goes away much as an enemy  will beat their war drums, scare the living crap out of everyone and then one morning be gone.    Wake up and 2 years later here it is again stronger and  nasty then before.

Who is to say this man lied come here.    True in his home land he helped a woman get to hospital, some weeks before  he was to come to the USA but he was not a doctor and as life went on and he felt well when  he filled out the forms.  How would he know what he was exposed to unless diagnosed by Doctors and lab tests ?

Any of us exposed to   long incubation period for a disease would have done the same.     This man is being blamed for something that was outside his ability to control or even know about that was growing in his body.

To try to pin the problem on one man and say he lied to bring the disease here is gate out the back for all that fell asleep at the switch.

A World Health Organization doctor who spent 31 days in Nigeria says its no surprise that someone has finally been diagnosed with Ebola on U.S. soil, and that more cases will follow if drastic changes aren't made.

Dr. Aileen Marty was worried specifically about the lax standards for checking people on entry to the U.S., illustrating the point with a story about her return to the country through Miami International Airport.

'I get to the kiosk...mark the fact that I've been to Nigeria and nobody cares, nobody stopped me,' she said.

You should really get your facts straight before you make a post around here.

Quote
On the form obtained by the Associated Press and confirmed by a Liberian government official, Duncan answered "no" to questions about whether he had cared for an Ebola patient or touched the body of someone who had died in an area affected by Ebola.

<snip>

On Sept. 15, days before he left Liberia for the United States, Duncan -- a LIberian national -- helped carry 19-year-old Marthalene Williams into a taxi to go to the hospital after her family was unable to get an ambulance, The New York Times reports, quoting family and neighbors.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/10/02/liberia-ebola-patient-thomas-duncan-airport-screening/16591753/

He also helped carry his land lord's Ebola ridden son to an ambulance before that.

This bullish*t Progressive way of thinking...the whole "well how do we know for sure he lied or came in contact with Ebola...we can't just stop him from coming in"...is what's got us in the potential mess we're in right now.  He was a carrier when he stepped onto that plane in Monrovia.  He potentially infected everyone on the plane...anyone he came in contact with in the Brussels airport...and at D/FW as well.  Any money he used to pay for items...how many more times has that been touched and passed long?

But you let ideology trump common sense...just like this administration and that has set this country and you and me up for potentially getting this crap.

But you go ahead and keep on defending Patient Zero.

Hate to say it, but it's probably time to forcibly quarantine anyone with contact at this point. They will not contain it unless they get over their politically correct bullshit and that containment applies to all regardless of race or gender. Enough. Obama Is Risking a U.S. Ebola Outbreak for His Own Ambitions

The Fiscal Times By Liz Peek

Nearly 60 percent of Americans want the government to shut down flights to the U.S. from Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, sources of the Ebola virus. Why isn’t the White House playing ball? One theory: because once again, President Barack Obama is serving his legacy at the expense of the country.

Six years ago he put his legacy-building healthcare legislation ahead of the need to create jobs and reboot our fragile economy. Today, his ambition to be a hero to Africa is undermining common sense approaches to protecting Americans from the Ebola virus.

At issue is the enormous popularity of George W. Bush in Africa, a love affair that highlights how little, by comparison, Mr. Obama has done for that continent. As The New York Times reported in 2013, Bush “is seen as a lifesaver who as president helped arrest a deadly epidemic [AIDS] and promoted development of impoverished lands.” As The Times noted, “During a final trip as president in early 2008, Mr. Bush was warmly greeted by huge crowds of the sort he never saw at home anymore.”

That’s a bitter pill for Mr. Obama, who makes little secret of his dislike for his predecessor and who, as our nation’s first black president, was expected to make great contributions to Africa. It must gall him that U.S. approval ratings in numerous important African countries have tumbled under his leadership.

According to Gallup, U.S. approval ratings in sub-Saharan Africa peaked at 85 percent in 2009; by 2013 they had plummeted to 64 percent.  They explained the likely source of the drop: “Given Obama's Kenyan heritage, many Africans likely expected Obama to pay more attention to Africa than they perceive he has.”  In Kenya, the birthplace of the president’s father, approval of the U.S. leadership collapsed from 93 percent in 2009 to 68 percent by 2013.

The rest is here:  http://finance.yahoo.com/news/obama-risking-u-ebola-outbreak-091500185.html

He doesn't give a damn about the American people.
