Title: just a reminder.....
Post by: franksolich on September 30, 2014, 07:03:08 AM
There's only 57 more shopping days until nominations for the Top DUmmies of 2014 get underway circa suppertime Thanksgiving Eve; less than two months.

It's probably time to slowly start getting one's ducks--er, DUmmies, in a row.

This has been a lean year for primitivity, but we still have the mid-term elections coming up 35 days hence, and one's sure that no matter what happens, that's going to give us at least two or three top DUmmies for this year.

Besides the top ten DUmmies, keep in mind these awards:

(a) the William Rivers Pitt, the "Willie," for the most-memorable primitive since January 2001;
(b) the Steven Dawes, the "Steve," for the primitive who most made an ass of himself in 2014:
(c) the Nadin Abbott, the "nadin," for the primitive with the most exaggerated opinion of himself in 2014; and
(d) the Bartholomew Scott, the "Skippy" or the "Barry," whichever one prefers, for the primitive who proved the most-outlandishly paranoid in 2014.

(The "Skippy" replaces the Robyn McGrath, the "Rob," of previous years.)

The rules will be the same as last year.

Going to be tough deciding between (c) and (d) for Dorkio...

"Yes" should cover it . . . :whistling:

The island is just pitiful at this point, they are in solemn grief over the upcoming doom of November, having to answer for their war criminal President and in mortal fear any statement will offend some lunatics deep sensitivities.

Maybe there should be 'Josef Stalin' award, for the most doctrinaire dictatorial Authoritarian of the year...I would pick the now-departed firecrotch primitive for that one.

I like that...we could add a "Joseph Gobbels Media Propaganda Award" too...I've got a certain little Marxist mouthpiece in mind for that one.

I like that idea too.

The upcoming elctions should bring a surge in the DUmmies.  This time of the year usually brings out the best (or worse) in the idiots.

The battle among Skippy, Lamond, and nadin herself for the nadin award should be a bloodbath.

Yeah, that.  I'm tilting towards Lamond myself.

I forgot to mention the group award too--it can be either a formal group of primitives, such as the BOG or the cooking and baking primitives, or an informal group if one more or less defines who and what they are.

For that, I'm leaning towards the Four Horsewomen of the Femapocalypse, BainsBane, the redqueen primitive, the seabeyond bitch, and the Bostonian Beanie.

What about the guy that had child molesting in his past?

TiT won it in 2009.

TiT won it in 2009.

I think we allow people to win multiple times -- but if not, I have to go with nads and her kerfunkled journo vibe.

wee willie has been deeply disappointing this year, as he was last year.  He peaked with 24 business hours...

What sorts of awards to be given out are always fine-tuned clear up until nominations begin, and there will be a primitive freeloader of the year award, but I haven't yet decided in which primitive's honor it's to be named.

The big guy of course has been notorious for his decades-long endeavors to get aboard the disability gravy train by one means or another, but the award using his name thus is because the big guy made such a splendid ass of himself back in 2012 when he paid no attention to the advice and counsel, the warnings, of his fellow Nebraskan.

Yes, they have to have been active on Skins's island the past year.

Whether still active, or banned, or deceased, they have to have been active.

Lying Tom was the winner of the very first "Willie," the most memorable primitive 2001-current, and hence is already permanently enshrined in the pantheon of famous primitives.

Winner of the "Willie" cannot repeat for the "Willie;" it's a one-time award, and permanent.

One doesn't see two or three or more faces of George Washington on Mount Rushmore, for example; one's enough.

Are we adding the Doug "hide the sausage" award this year? ;)

If he doesn't go tits up pretty soon, he's made a colossal ass of himself once again, after plucking DUmp heartstrings with the announcement of his imminent demise.

If he outlives the Cuyahoga County ward heeler, who was pronounced dead by the CalPig months ago, it will be a huge DUmp travesty.

The "Willie" is the only award where a primitive can't repeat.

I have no idea why the disgraced congressman from Florida won in 2012; that was definitely an outlier.

His win makes as much sense as the last two Top DUmmies, a mocking troll and a one-hit wonder.

The brain-damaged primitive won the "Steve" last year, for having made such a colossal ass of himself, doing that.

One can repeat for the "Steve," but I haven't seen walrus-face around this year.

As for naming an award for walrus-face, I'm not inclined to do that, because there's so many other awards that it's a monumental task, writing them all, and if one notices, as we come near the end of the awardments, in which things should rise to a crescendo, actually I deflate like a worn-out balloon; I'm not for example proud of DainBramaged's Top DUmmie award for last year.

One just gets burned out as the awards are announced.  So this year, I'm trying to keep their number within a more reasonable limit.

I do understand it: the Willie is a "lifetime dis-achievement" award.  It is all becoming clear to me.

This is a tough year, all the good ones have been taken -- I will monitor the thread for nominees and arguments for/against...

Well, actually there's a whole lot of good candidates for the most memorable primitive.

One thinks of the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive "Redstone," poor stupid Beth "EFerrari," grouchy old Don "NNN0LHI," the mountain man primitive "ThomWV," the bitter old Vermontese "cali" primitive, the "Taverner" primitive, "Walt Starr," Fat Che, MoPaul, &c., &c., &c.

But he contributed only one single post to the entire extravaganza.

And it was a year when nadin's performance went far beyond any previous DUmmy since TomInTib.

What is done is done.  He hasn't contributed much (?) this year, so he won't be in the running this year.

A couple of the clearly Obama knee-pad wearing clown DUmmies stand out to me, PlayingHardball & Prosense.  If you add in DU Jr./Discussionist, Graham4Anything stands out.  Dorkio's combined body of work from both sites has been pretty solidly crazy.  Just my initial thoughts.  I'm certain the pre and post election period will give us some fresh or not so fresh standouts.  It usually does.

Well, true; not everybody's been watching the primitives as long as some have.

One just does what one can; nothing more required.

This is why the CCA award was devised; it's franksolich's choice for a primitive who's oftentimes been overlooked in the voting over the years.

Atman won it last year, and this year, I'm leaning towards the long-gone maudlin waif, the "Mythsaje" primitive.

Besides the top ten DUmmies, keep in mind these awards:

(a) the William Rivers Pitt, the "Willie," for the most-memorable primitive since January 2001;

(e) the group award, for whichever group, formal or informal, of primitives stood out the most during the past year.

(f) the Steven Senti, the "stewert," for the freeloadingest primitive of the past year.

Also, to be consistent in the names of awards, the CCA, franksolich's special award, will be the David Allen, the "Skins."
