Title: Stupid people and pot.
Post by: thundley4 on September 14, 2014, 06:20:48 PM
The place I work at hires a temp agency to provide people to do clean up work, and sometimes they will hire them full time and bring them into the shop and eventually the union if they are good workers.

There's this one kid, that they have been training to do some of the basics and they intended to hire him away from the temp agency, which means they would have to pay a fee to that agency.  Anyway it would have meant a big jump in pay for this kid.

Friday he failed his piss test. Idiot just threw away a chance at a good paying job for work that isn't all that demanding.  :hammer: :hammer:

The chances of that happening are exactly two.  'Slim' and 'none,' with 'Slim' being a Russian billionaire . . . (Hey, it was the first thing I could think of!)

I hope the next time when an employer tells him a drug test is required, he's smart enough to quit the crap.

It's no small coincidence that here in the city of Colorado Springs, the dispensaries are only in low income areas...

Amazing what "poor" people can afford as a sheer luxury.

Amazing how many "homeless" see in the downtown area of Sarasota, begging for whatever---the whatever seems to be enough money to go into the local package liquor store for booze, cigarettes, whatever. Also amazed at how many "poor" people can fork up the cash for cigarettes and booze, not talking about the professional beggars that are bussed into town and left on the various street corners with the little signs that they hand off to their replacements at the corner. They then shift them to another location, quite a business.

Some things that poor people can afford that I can't
beer or alcohol ( I will have a glass of wine with dinner maybe once a month...that's in the budget)
cigarettes or tobacco
pizza delivery
tattoos
bling
rims
vanity plates
air jordans
just to name a few

Good stuff Eupher.
Naturally I forgot to mention illicit drugs, but that should be implied in the title of the thread.

Next time you see one of the professional beggars on the corner.  Check out their shoes.  They may dress up like the local bum, but forget about the shoes.  It's all in the details.

:cheersmate: :cheersmate:, you must have worked in a casino somewhere.

This was told to me by a ex casino worker over 20 years ago when I asked how the greet staff knew who to Comp. Some men and women came in dressed to the 9's both wearing paste jewelry even I could tell was a fake.    Tip off was the shoes,  I was told.  Another tip off was when the lights went down the so called diamonds did not glow and sparkel in the dim light. Real diamonds will gather all light and shine out in near darkness.

Anyone man or woman can with a sewing machine copy the latest designes for woman or take some old males suites of great fabric and alter it to todays high priced clothing.  It is the shoes that that can  not be replicated, knock offs of designer shoes and handbags  are a dime a dozen but my Mother can spot these at 60 feet.

Even buying at the resale stores in the upper income area can get one ripped off.   Got to be careful as I paid $150 for a consignment jacket that had a phoney lable and some one had sewn in a cheap lining and some one  had found or stolen the lable from another garment.  Could have bought the jacket for brand new for $39.95 from K Mart.    Nothing gets past my Mother when it comes to fashion.

Some scurvy fella comes in looking like he just got out of the drunk tank wearing $2,000 buck boots of some strange animal was given a Comp pass-- free room, meals and tickets to a high priced boxing match.

Hillneck is spot on, check the shoes, the last thing anyone wants is to have stand on their feet 12 hours a day as they cry poor mouth due to bad shoes.

Hired a young designer once as a favor to a client who had been using him to do various light design tasks but could not keep him.  The client's company has a strict no drugs policy and we are required to submit to random drug tests as a condition of working with them.  Stupid kid failed his drug test, so he was ineligible to work with that client for six months. I was dumfounded that he could be so clueless, having just come from 2 years working for that client.
Had to lay him off because there was nowhere else to use him, but my company's owner wanted me to take him back on after his six months were up because he is a firm believer in giving second chances. Kid messed up again and let some really bad errors get by in some layouts he was doing, so essentially people just stopped using him and once again we had to lay him off.  Got a feeling that he never did get off the wacky tobacky, and it ended up costing him a damn good job. When I did the exit interview, he complained that he never got a fair chance.  I let him know that the owner gave him far more of a chance than I would have given him once I knew he failed the drug test, but the entitled little dick refused to accept any of the responsibility for the situation he found himself in.

The way it works for us is that  if you are in the union, you get three chances before getting fired for drug use. Each time costs the employee more out of pocket for rehab.  However, new hires that fail the drug test are terminated before they ever get in the union. There is a 90 day trial period before joining the union, and you have to pass the test right before being admitted to the union as well as passing the first test when you're hired.

on the subject of stupid people and pot, Tony Stewart is not going to be charged with the death of Kevin Ward in the on track incident a few weeks back.

It seems that Ward had a high enough level of pot is his system to impair his judgement (i.e. confront a race car )

Quote
Tony Stewart will not face criminal charges in Kevin Ward Jr.'s death, a grand jury in upstate New York decided.

The Ontario County District Attorney's office took the evidence in Stewart's case to a grand jury, which found there was no basis for criminal charges, D.A. Michael Tantillo announced Wednesday.

Tantillo said toxicology reports revealed that Ward was under the influence of marijuana at a high enough level to impair judgment.

Our union pushed for the drug testing policy, since so many of our customers have drug testing policies.  The company wanted the three chances because they knew certain people were users at the time and wanted to give them time to clean up their act.  Their drug testing policy also applies to non-union office workers.

Rather than "three chances" how about simply coming up with a policy that says, "effective January 1, 2015, any employee at any time is subject to mandatory drug testing. Refusal to submit to drug testing constitutes resignation from the employee's position. Positive results on a drug test signifies a high level of certainty that the employee engaged in illegal drug usage and disciplinary action, up to and including termination, may be employed."

That kind of policy puts EVERYBODY on notice that it's time to clean up or GTFO. Real simple. No need for the bullshit.

Since we are a gov't contractor there are different rules. The nature of my occupation has me tested for drugs that are also legal, such as Viagra, Cymbalta, etc...which are considered loss prevention targets on top of what they normally check for. If one is found in your system you better have an Rx or a record of a doctor giving you a sample.

When I worked for ALCOA in Davenport the company rules often clashed with the federal rules, then Iowa threw in a few rules. Occasional users did not have a chance, even if they choose to indulge during their vacation or days off...this included drinking. If you stayed out late and had to work early, you could get nailed under the zero tolerance. I know one guy that was sent to treatment as he showed up a couple minutes late for work and a plant security guard sent him up to the medical department. I believe his BAC was like .01 and that was a positive. He also had some type of internal condition in which booze had a longer half life in his system. 8 (hours) to the gate was the standard rule...when it came to booze.

Good list.

I did have a couple pizzas delivered when I was laid up with a broken foot this past spring and summer. At the same time my mom was sick and I had to make sure she ate as well. As the foot started to heal, I would start to do more cooking but often too much time was spent on the feet and the cast and I paid the price....it's hard to use crutches and cook, especially on fairly slick tile floors..lol   I simply did what I had to do. I used Amazon panty which I found was a good service with good prices, a huge box of heavy stuff delivered to my door by UPS, with two smaller boxes inside. It made my shopping a lot easier and the amazon prices were very reasonable.

With my mom living in an apartment next door to my house, she had the best meals on wheels in the world! Chef Robbie! Now I am back at a stress filled job that keeps getting worse, but that is a entirely different topic.
