Really need some advice
This is the scenario. I live in the bible belt. Conservatism and religion are really important where I work. We have a legal issue that may require me to be deposed and potentially have to testify. My dilemma? I have a personal problem with having to take an oath on a bible. I also have no interest in being outed for my personal beliefs (which do not jive with my co-workers). What you do?

I don`t know how it sleeps at night.

7. The problem is that I hold a government job

in an agency that does not seem to believe in separation of church and state. My concern is the impact that coming out as not a Christian can negatively impact my promotional opportunities.

14. I agree with RagAss

There are more important things to worry about.

Unless you have an unlimited supply of energy and time, pick your battles carefully.

Remember, you are talking to a fellow DUmbass.

12. When it was sworn for jury duty, we just held up our hands.

There were no bibles present. It isn't like it is a magical book that will shoot lightning at you if you lie. Do you swear to tell the truth? If so, tell the truth.

A reminder to crazy eyes idiot Briggs...you cretins can`t tell the truth if your own life depended on it.

God the DUmp is boring. :banghead:

DUmmie is going to lie like a champ......he doesn't really fear god but he's afraid the judge will catch him lying on the stand.

I've done tons of trials, hearings, and depositions, and been present at many more.  Never saw a Bible used at any of them, though they are used for swearing elected officials into office (Very unlikely to ever be a problem for a DUmmtard living in Red State Heaven).

What would happen if you did?  Immediately turn to dust.  These idiots come up with things to complain about.  Besides they don't make the defendant testify.

You are right, They haven't been paying attention with all the TV judge shows.  You just raise your right hand right?

That's the norm, but sometimes it isn't even that formal, for instance at a deposition.

 :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

My youngest daughter was going through  a phase of some sort.  She was living in NC at the time and was a victim of false identification.   She was all beat up by a women that took her for someone else.

She was living with family members who supported her in this case and called me most every hour to let me know how the court case was going.

This case had taken almost a year to get to court, wheels of justice turn slowly.

When it came time for my daughter to be sworn in it caused a problem for the small town southern court not to mention her siblings.   She refused to swear on the Bible.

Now she went to church every Sunday, a Southern Baptist from the North and the only white person in the church.   She like the rest of my family found the sounds of the South were much closer to the spirit then the darn slowly dirges the white Christian churches sang.   Example is the Saints Come Marching In==== between  Rock of Ages.

Ever Listen to of all people Elvis sing gospel, darn this an experience in faith, as are all little churches today that understand to that to make a joy full noise unto the Lord is important. For the people who do this and those that hear it or even for the deaf the words to the music and the effect on the hearing is delight full.

So to get back to my daughter that refused to swear on a Bible against a stranger that cold cocked her by mistake.

Never did find out why or how she did this, Today she is a Grandmother, still sings in the Black Churches with the baby on her hip. Up here in the North, and yes friends and family do not understand her, never married but who is to question that.

DUmbass is confusing TV for real life.

Or...this DUmmie is just setting up a bouncy excuse for getting fired.  But if they work at a government/union job, it's hard to get fired from those.

I thought that there were laws against self incrimination. Why would the DUmmie be forced to be deposed or testify?

Simple solution: End your life before they call you to testify. That way you'll be outed at your funeral, but won't care.

Honestly, primitives just never think.

First thing that came to my mind was Archie Bunker saying "Would you rather swear on the Koran, little girl?"

I digress from the topic at hand though... so  let me see if I understand your problem.

1. You do not believe in God so...
2. The bible has no meaning to you

Now the way I see it, you believe that swearing on the bible is wrong? Correct, dummie? So what is wrong with it? You don't believe in God or the bible, so it has no effect on you. It would be the same for me if I was swearing on say Webster's Dictionary. It has no meaning. So what is your problem?

Something just don't add up here.

A more likely scenario... the dummie does not want to testify under oath. There are very real consequences of lying under oath and the dummie wants to lie, but does not want to go to prison for lying. That leads me to believe the dummie just may be heading to the unemployment line. My guess is the dummie got caught stealing from work.

I have never seen a Bible used in any trial in real life on television or movies.

I wonder what his religion is.

government.

If that were true then our Constitution and our laws would be sacred Holy Writ but they will cast aside everything to appeal to their one and only true idol...

...themselves.

I believe that 'Narcissus' could be their god, then.

Are we more narcissistic than ever before?

W. KEITH CAMPBELL   Thursday 28 August 2014

There was once a young man named Narcissus who was so vain that he fell in love with his own reflection in the water and died. In some versions of the mythological tale from Ancient Greece, Narcissus was transformed into a flower that today carries the name narcissus, or daffodil.

Like the flower, narcissism has continued to flourish in modern culture. “Selfie” was awarded word of the year in 2013 by the Oxford Dictionary. Capturing an image of oneself – once the purview of despondent artists – has become an international pastime. Even politicians rode the trend taking selfies at memorial services. Celebrities continued to be, well, celebrated as well. Miley Cyrus ended 2013 as the most searched person on Google, with Drake and Kim Kardashian coming in at the number two and three spots. Between them they have more “followers” than the population of an average country. And, as both Miley Cyrus’s career trajectory and research findings suggest, the importance of fame is more prominent than ever before.

In recent weeks, we’ve seen the Ice Bucket challenge thrive, but it has been revealed that less than half of people doing the challenge are actually donating. So, for some, is it really about awareness for ALS or self-promotion?

When we wrote The Narcissism Epidemic a few years ago we didn’t predict the extent of these changes. Narcissism has become such a part of culture that a new study found people could report their own narcissism simply by answering a question:

To what extent do you agree with this statement: "I am a narcissist." (Note: The word “narcissist” means egotistical, self-focused, and vain.)
