Two votes per person in this survey; please vote for two.
I know, I know, another one of these nuisance polls to test the effectiveness of the DUmpster.
What, in your opinion, does the DUmpster do best?
One can vote for two choices if one wishes.
Keep in mind the purpose of the DUmpster is threefold:
(a) to amuse and entertain, much like the comics section of newspapers
(b) oppositional research, to learn what the other side's up to
(c) informal academic research in anthropology and sociology
What is not a purpose of the DUmpster is to aggravate the primitives.....although given the penchant of primitives to snoop around, nose into, things not their business, that seems to be something the DUmpster does pretty good.
But it's the primitives' own fault; they don't have to come here to eavesdrop, to see what decent and civilized people are saying about them.
-
Where's the 'all of the above' button? Because the DUmpster does them all for me. ....but if I just had to pick two, it's a and b for me.
-
I'm saying the 3rd and 4th options. There should be an 'All of the above' option, though.
-
I voted once, for "Upset them." It's like throwing a bobcat onto monkey island at the zoo.
-
1st and 4th.
.
-
I would opt for "all of the above" too but of the choices the one I think most useful is to "illuminate decent and civilized people about primitivity".
It adds their stupidity and evil to the Google cache.
-
Invalid poll. no JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS! option.

Invalid poll. no JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS! option.
I voted it anyway. Now I have crayon on my screen...

Now, now.
The reason this sort of bothers me is that since after the Restoration (after the take-down in April, which lasted for six weeks), while viewship has increased by leaps and bounds--it's way way way up, visitors lurking here; it's grown stratospherically--participation by members has actually declined considerably.
conservativecave has become a snapshot of America--fewer people producing more, and more people freeloading (i.e., not joining and participating).
I dunno why this is, and I'd like to figure out why.

I can only answer for me, of course, but I'm a busy person as it is so probably not the best meter of why there's less activity. In 2014, I've become even more busy with both work, volunteering to assist others, and with family and friends enjoying time together. Maybe there's something about how the primitives are always complaining about their misery that makes me realize that I could fall into the same trap if I were to become as lazy and stupid as they are. So I make time to be productive.

Well, one can hardly consider you "less productive." No way.
I'm wondering if part of it might be because so many decent and civilized people are caring, sensitive, loving, people, and are turned off by what they consider too-strident, too-nasty, treatment of the primitives here in the DUmpster.
Uh, no way.
The primitives don't even get a tenth of the misery they deserve, from the DUmpster. They don't even get a hundredth of the misery they deserve, for all the problems they inflict upon decent and civilized people in real life.
This attitude, "well, the DUmpster's too nasty [sic] to the primitives" bothers me because since when has it ever availed any decent and civilized person to be nice to the primitives?

Anytime I think a post here may be over the line I just go over to the island and browse around for a bit. After that...yeah, we are not nearly nasty enough. If civilized people click on the links to the island that are provided in the OPs they would come to that conclusion too. Heck, the DUmmies are nastier to each other than we ever could be to them.

The most vitriolic and spiteful thing ever posted here is but a pale, satirical reflection of the venom posted on DU every day. Not a factor for me. Not a factor for me.

The DUmpster isn't nasty enough, IMHO. I had this sort of discussion last week at work, with an accountant that really is a decent and upstanding person. He was saying that 'you don't want to get to your adversaies' level (we were talking about dealing with IS at the time).' My view is this . . . 'Fight fire with more fire.'
That's the way you do it. If there's anyone left on the other side when you're done, get them to surrender. Shouldn't be hard at that point. :fuelfire:

Take, for example, walrus-face, the brain-damaged primitive.
For years and years and years--surely more than ten--the guy crapped his personality all over the place, in the faces of both his fellow primitives and decent and civilized people.
So he finally got egg on his face about a year ago, and ran away like a whipped dog.
And here, we hadn't given him even a minuscule hundredth of a percentage point of all that he truly deserved.
I'm not sure there's any primitive around, who's gotten all, much less more than, the primitive's deserved.

I think part of that is because the site was down for so long. Another reason IMO, is because I find the dump monkeys boring lately.

I'd say its a few things -
- Obviously, the downtime played a major role in the drop in participation. It 'broke our stride' - and even though I did manage to salvage damn near everything, six weeks on the internet may as well be six years.
- If you look back at the posting history, you'll notice that The Cave rides a four year wave - it follows the run-up to the Presidential elections. Sadly, Obama winning a second term took the wind out of many of our sails. Different people cope with loss differently. Some took it badly and left - others took a break from The Cave and returned, while others picked up and carried on. With that being said - I suspect that if the 2014 Elections go as well as many believe they will - posting here will pick back up as a result.
- Every day there are more conservative sites on the internet - there was a time when the only real conservative site was Free Republic. Now there are hundreds of them, many of which are good quality sites. - which for The Cave's daily post totals isn't great, but for conservatism as a whole, its fantastic. - It's another one of the differences between conservatives and libs. We view most of the other conservative sites as allies instead of competitors and welcome them - whereas liberals compete with each other - each declaring superiority. Consider our relationship with CU, and compare DU's relationship with Daily KOS.
Anyway, that's my take on it. I view the sharp downturn in posts as a temporary condition.
-As for the ginormous increase in views, that is partly my doing. I HEAVILY promote every site I host. (or should I say, the server is set up to do that for me)
-

It's the DUmmies' fault. Dull, dull DUmmies.
The DUmp is a dreary place on a diet of Klams and queers and Jew-haters.
If we had nadin, and Amber, and LocoNuts, and Dennis the Menace back, along with more Big Mo and Horse with No Brain, things would perk up overnight.
The DUmp is still loaded with lunatics, but they're boring lunatics.

I voted 1 and 3.
-
I voted 1 and 4.
The reason:
We make fun of them and they amuse us to no end. That amusement and ridicule riles up the dummies thus providing more amusement. The dummies just cannot fathom that they are the looney bin of the internet. it is like watching a movie that is so dumb it is funny.

That point, I hadn't thought of; more competition. But it's all good.
I view the sharp downturn in posts as a temporary condition.
Same here; as soon as autumn gets underway, I suspect there'll be more posting and commenting.

It is awesome, the way visitors and views has skyrocketed.
-
I voted 1, because they are amusing. I voted 3, because I wish more regular folk would witness what the democrat party really is.
DU is a cesspool.
-
participation by members has actually declined considerably.
Due to a change in circumstances I'm now far less free to take part, which is why I'm rarely around these days.
Also worth noting that the last few times I've looked at the DUmp it's been showing many signs that it's now long past its best...things are much less interesting there, which leads to less material for mocking.
