'We've had bricks and eggs thrown at our house over how we dress': Couple who live their entire life in 1950s clothing overcome horrendous abuse to win national vintage competition

A married couple who dress each day in authentic 1950’s outfits are delighted to have reached the final of a national competition celebrating their pastime, overcoming years of torment.
Frankie and Melanie Calland, from Howden le Wear in County Durham, are both addicted to dressing in the styles popular over half a century ago, and have suffered years of abuse over their unusual passion.
However, the pair refused to be put off, and have now beaten hundreds of other hopefuls to reach the finals Mr Vintage UK and Miss Vintage UK; a national vintage fashion contest.
I can't blame for this lifestyle. Sometimes I think I belong in the 1950s.

Really? Of all the things in the world to get upset about, people are angry over this?

I thought this was a about a couple in my area.
I see them out walking all the time in their spiffy vintage clothing.
-
They wear it all well. :)
Seems odd anyone would give them a second glance much less harass them about it.
-
I've always thought that era looked pretty sharp myself
-
This happened in the UK ?
I would have thought it was in a blue state. :whistling:

Most of my wardrobe is "vintage." I have shirts that are 20 years old.
When Chinese collars come back I am GOLDEN!

I have one T-shirt that is over 30 years old. It was from the S8G school in Ballston Spa. It's threadbare and see-through.

I'm too old to wear clothes like that, but I can't bring myself to throw it away.

Ballston Spa . . . would that be NY? I grew up 3 miles from there . . .

Wonder how many of those throwing bricks and eggs would consider the same treatment of homos to be abusive? I always find libs the worst offenders at hypocracy that's why I am pointing that out. This is just a choice in clothing, for that matter clothing that is decent and pretty modest to boot, and people are pissed? Really our world if full of backwards morons anymore where a 'queen' can walk around in 6 inch platforms and a g string and be celebrated but a couple who want to play vintage clothes and cars are harassed. :thatsright: :banghead: I swear we've crossed the threshold of being sensible about 20 years ago.
