Lost In America
One of the biggest guilts of my life is that when I was 10, I threw a rock into a golf course pond & killed a baby duckling. It's also been one of my most personally damning secrets. I killed another living thing. I'm obviously a monster.
I skipped a stone across a still pond toward a mother duck and her ducklings. Granted, I never thought that the stone would go so far. Nor did I think it would kill a baby. But it did.
I have lived with that guilt for 40 years.
Just needed to put that out there.

7. I would suggest that you reexperience the event
in your mind. Be there. See the ducks, feel the rock. Throw, and see what happened. Then, notice what you told yourself. What you told yourself about YOU. Because THAT BECAME A DEEPLY EMBEDDED BELIEF. Beliefs are not always true. But until we are willing to confront the beliefs that we put in place so long ago, and take a stand for the truth, the belief has us by the short and curlies. You say you have felt guilt. What did you decide about yourself ie: what kind if person would do what you did? I'm willing to bet you have held yourself as Very Bad. And you were how old? What is the truth about the incident?

I used to kill things (birds and small mammals) with my BB gun and when I got older felt real bad about it. On the other hand I never flinch or get buck fever now when I squeeze the trigger!

I think its the intent. I couldn't kill or injure a critter for the sake of killing it, but I have killed dozens of lobsters and thousands of shellfish and feel absolutely no remorse. I also know of at least twice I ended up making roadkill, but It really doesn't bother me because it was the dumb critter responsible both times. One was a bird who decided it could fly through my windshield while I was driving down the highway, and the second was a squirrel who must have had something wrong with its head. It kept running back and forth across the road. The first time I passed it, I stopped and let it go by. On my way back I did the same thing, but the squirrel decided it could run between my front wheels and my back wheels. it was wrong.
In the case of the duckling, it was in the wrong place at the wrong time. -Assuming the primitive's story is true. The only way I could imagine feeling bad about it is if the primitive intentionally tossed the rock at the ducks to scare them off and miscalculated.

Know this, DUmmy: that little duckling is looking down at you from Duck Heaven, flipping you off and cursing you like Donald Duck with a case of the clap.

Just another example of liberalism being a mental disorder...It seems like almost everyone at DU is on some kind of mental medication or bitching about not having their meds.

We keep pigeons and chickens. A number of years ago we rescued a family of ducklings from a storm drain. Since this was on a weekend, we had to keep them confined but we were unable to have contact with them because if you play with them, even just a little, they will not survive back in the wild.
They went of course to a sanctuary first thing Monday morning. But I can tell you Chris that you are correct, compared to adult pigeons and chickens, little ducklings make a real mess. Cute but messy.
