Journalists threatened by Hamas for reporting use of human shields

International press in Gaza has hardly reported on how Hamas operates in this round of fighting and photos or video of Hamas fighters from recent weeks are rare, the reason for which became apparent this week as several journalists reported being threatened and even expelled from Gaza for reporting the terrorist organization uses civilian sites to attack Israel.

Reporters from Italy and the US corroborated the IDF's explanation for explosions near Shifa Hospital and by a playground in Shati on Tuesday, that it was a result of rockets misfired by Gazan terrorists.

However, one altered his report and another waited to leave Gaza because he feared retribution from Hamas.

Italian journalist Gabriele Barbati tweeted a photo on Tuesday as he went through the Erez crossing into Israel.

Barbati then he tweeted the following in Italian and English: "Out of Gaza far from Hamas retaliation: Misfired rocket killed children in Shati. Witness: militants rushed and cleared debris."

He followed that tweet with another: "@IDFSpokesperson said truth in communique released yesterday about Shati camp massacre. It was not Israel behind it."

1. Hamas is an infestation.

Israel is responding in the only way possible.

They should definitely work harder to mitigate civilian deaths, but the existence of Hamas will always threaten stability.

2. Infestation???

You realize you have sunk to the level of those who lost WWII who considered their victims vermin.

De-humanizing them help make supporting genocide possible.

7. The important point is that the news coming out of Gaza is heavily censored

because any reporter who accurately reports what Hamas is actually doing risks not getting out alive.

5. Maybe he was afraid the IDF would shoot him if he didn't tweet

approved messages.

<edit>

...In 2001, the Board of the Foreign Press Association condemned an IDF report on the shootings of several journalists in 2000, noting that the investigation took 14 months, and with a single exception turned up no guilty parties. In 2008, we urged Israel to release results of its army investigation into the killing of a Reuters cameraman; in 2009, we condemned the IDF for firing a missile directly at a Gaza City building housing multiple news organizations. In 2010, CPJ protested IDF attacks on several journalists in the West Bank and demanded an investigation, but no explanation has been given.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure, sure.

4. None of us knows the truth here

The great thing about history is that if we choose to do so we can learn from it. Without very much study you can learn that sometimes there are people who only understand killing and that working for peace will only be successful if both sides of the issue are willing to sincerely work for peace.

If you so desire, World War 2 is a wonderful place to begin your study of history. Just to touch on the high points, it had some guys (aka the bad guys) who wanted to control the world and wipe out the Jews, and someone (Neville Chamberlain) thought that peace could be achieved by negotiating with the bad guys. Guess how that worked out.
