What would it take for the GOP to lose the House?

I have no idea what heinous act Republicans would have to commit to persuade a significant portion of their base to turn against them.

Consider that elected Republicans have: Targeted children at the border with hate and rage; Refused to provide basic health care in states they control; Refused to raise the minimum wage; Ignored our dangerously crumbling infrastructure; Refused to rectify a SCOTUS decision that affects freedom of religion; Done everything possible to turn women into chattel; and so much more.

I’d venture to say that most of these things disproportionately affect a fairly large portion of their base. Exactly how dense are these voters? How horrendous would an act have to be before these voters became disgusted? I have no idea.

I know that much of their base consists of low information voters who are easily enraged. Nonetheless, their must be some line that cannot be crossed. What would that line be? Eating live babies? I just don’t know.

9. I've talked to 20 or so D candidates for Congress...

....not one (up to Steve Israel) will say they think we can take the House back this year.

Most don't think it'll happen until redistricting.

Another reason I don't understanding all the "moneybombing" Alan Grayson has been doing here. He's sitting in a safe district and is sucking up money that could go the holding the Senate or winning back Governorships we'll need to protect the 2016 vote.

<<<doesn't think that really, the woman-abusing congressman has raised a dime from the primitives.

13. I agree, but that's

not the question I'm actually asking in the OP. I'm asking what it would take for their low-information voters to finally catch on?

19. +1

I have no respect for a GOP voter. How can you listen to these people running for office had respect them. They are beyond stupid, cold, and useless and yet far too many Americans will happily vote them in to do more of the nothing they are doing now.

24. This is exactly what I'm talking about in the OP.

I have no idea what it takes to make those voters understand how badly they're getting screwed.

18. Smarter D candidates

People like Alan Grayson running in every house of rep election.

21. I'm not so sure

From what I've seen, Grayson enrages Republicans the same way that Ted Cruz enrages us. Although I like Grayson, he appeals to the Dem base but not beyond.

20. A miracle.

Dems will be doing well to keep current #s or pick up a couple seats. '16 will be a better bet, but thats still a longshot. Need the new census and redistricting to get some competitive districts... most of them now are gerrymandered into safe seats.

Cyrano (8,385 posts)   Thu Jul 31, 2014, 01:18 PM

22. That gerrymandering seems to ensure that

after the next census, it will still be Republicans doing the redistricting.

<<<wonders where the primitives get this silly notion Republicans single-handedly "gerrymander;" isn't that an old Democrat trick, going back 200 years, and haven't the Democrats been doing it promiscuously since then?

<<<very very very late getting into the game, and probably too late.

The DUmmie means that they can't win unless the redistrict states in their favor.

Maybe DUmbass it is because your little list of idiocy only appeals to around 15% of the population.

What would it take for the GOP to lose the House?

For you and your party to care enough about people to stop trying to make everyone into a parasite class.

Voting like Democrats...wait they've already done that. They've learned so well from you that some are getting downright nasty and experts at stealing elections (Thad Cochran).

Consider that elected Republicans have: Targeted children at the border with hate and rage;

The only elected representatives I've seen at the border are those handing out food, clothing and other necessities are conservatives, when they're allowed to get in. But if hugging little kids is rage, I guess you're right. If wanting to stop the influx so little kids won't be preyed upon by coyotes, won't be ravaged by disease by being exposed along the way, 10 year old girls won't be raped and abused, well then, yeah, I guess we're hateful. And the places your guy is housing them? I've seen nicer prisons. Would you put one of your children in there? Yeah, these kids might be fleeing war zones, but we have our own (brown) children living in war zones like Detroit and Chicago. Don't you think we should help them first?

Quote
Refused to provide basic health care in states they control;

Health care is NOT the same as health insurance. You'd think the smartest people in the room would understand the difference. How about these reasons: I liked my plan and I didn't get to keep it. I like my doctor but she's retiring because she can't afford 0bamacare. Or how about the people who've lost jobs or been reduced to PT because of this law? What about all those people who think they're covered but find out they aren't because HHS didn't send their policy info to the insurance carrier. Oh, and living in OR, I can tell you, the "exchange set up" here was a big cluster **** because they're less competent than the 0bama administration. I didn't think that was possible. Or what about the fact that at least 30 million people will still be uninured after trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars have been spent? What about all the people who can no longer afford their insurance and don't get subsidies? Subsidies are only available for the highest priced policies. What about people who have higher premiums with higher deductibles and substandard care? None of you guys ever address any of these things honestly, ever!

Quote
Refused to raise the minimum wage;

If you want a job that pays well over minimum wage, apply for a job at Hobby Lobby. It's their policy to stay well ahead of minimum wage. Of course, they won't pay for you to suck a baby out of your womb and stab it in the head with a fork, but there's still Planned Parenthood. And it is the same insurance they offered before 0bamacare.

It's pretty evident why you guys have orgasms over government programs that subsidize your ass. Raising the minimum wage will cause job loss and/or raise prices. Large corporations like Walmart and evil banking chains can afford to absorb a minimum wage increase much easier than small businesses. Small businesses make up the majority of employers in this country. If the percentage of their income they can afford to pay for wages is 30% now, it will still be 30% after the minimum wage is raised. That means they'll either have to fire people, reduce workers to PT or raise prices. Ironically, raising prices could also lead to unemployment. It's just a fact that prices will go up. Then, guess what? We will have inflation which will make that minimum raise worth about as much as today's minimum wage. How about this: we remind people the minimum wage isn't meant to be a career choice. Get experience as a McDonald's crew kid, next thing you know, you're shift manager. Then you'll have the skills to get other management jobs...go figure.

Quote
Ignored our dangerously crumbling infrastructure;

Three words: SHOVEL. READY. JOBS.

Quote
Refused to rectify a SCOTUS decision that affects freedom of religion; Done everything possible to turn women into chattel; and so much more.

Yes, had SCOTUS not ruled on behalf of Hobby Lobby, religious freedom would have been seriously damaged. Religious freedom is a Constitutional right. Birth control is not. Oh, and would one of you idiots please answer this for me: before 0bamacare Hobby Lobby only offered the same 16 forms of birth control that they do now. Why did no one care then? Oh, and I'm not chattel, bitch. Far from it. From the time I was a teenager I've paid for my own birth control, WITHOUT insurance. I had a part time job. I didn't see it as anyone's business or anyone's responsibility except mine.

You assume way too much. Yeah, I am affected by having to pay more taxes to have the government tell me what I can and cannot do with my life. I am affected by a bill that tells my Nana to "go home and take a pill". What affects me is people like you deciding what I need and don't need and thinking you know what's best for my life. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself. You want a recent example of how incompetent even your leadership is? Look at those idiot senators "trying" to live with the minimum wage. None have a clue how to shop and spend money on ridiculous crap. Some of them actually complained about having a tuna sandwich for lunch! What the hell? Do you know how many people who make more than minimum wage eat tuna sandwiches for lunch. Just because we can eat at Chez Congressional Lunch Palace doesn't mean we want to. I'd rather save my money for something else.

I don't think someone whose so ****ed up everything they've touched, like your precious boy king, should be involved in any aspect of my life. That Arab spring? It's turned into mass chaos full of bloodshed and Islamists. Red lines that mean absolutely nothing. A limp wristed incompetent boob who no one fears has taken us back to the cold war. A health INSURANCE program that's a ****ing disaster. A secretary of state who, even by liberal standards, completely blew negotiations with the Palestinians and Israel. Fast and furious was a deliberate cluster ****. Benghazi....no one knew where the hell the CinC was while Americans were getting killed. Obviously he didn't care...needed his beauty sleep so he could party with Beyonce and Jay-Z I guess. Besides, if he had my best interests at heart, he sure the hell wouldn't have sicked his IRS on conservative groups just because he doesn't like their politics. Anymore, he just runs around the country complaining about how congress won't work with him (hint: you have to actually be willing to meet with someone in order to work with them), holding fundraisers, playing golf and posting selfies.

Low information? Your party has been spewing the same bullshit for the last 60 years and the best example of how wonderfully your policies have worked: look at Detroit, Chicago or any other poor, mostly minority, inner city neighborhoods. Your party has had complete control of those places. They're perfect examples of what happens when people allow you leftists to completely manage their lives. It's so sad and pathetic to see some poor, uneducated woman on the street getting all excited about an "0bama phone". That's what YOU people have reduced them too. And you've so brainwashed them, so successfully taken away all confidence, hope & education, that they actually think you care. You racist pigs keep them in little dangerous, rundown boxes (owned by slum lords like Val), ignoring them. You don't care how their lives have been completely ruined as long as they keep voting democrat.

So you take your sanctimonious, holier-than-thou bullshit and shove it up your ass!

Couldn't have said it better myself, Cindy!

Bravo!  :clap: :clap:

and H5   :hi5:

The dimrats would REALLY be in trouble if and when their base gets their heads out of their asses.  Until then, there's DU.

I take it Sir Cyr doesn't share SanFranNan's public confidence that the Ds will retake the House. Or is (s)he at a bottom peak of a bipolar mood cycle?
