Title: First new images of Lincoln in 140 years
Post by: Servonaut on July 07, 2008, 04:23:25 PM
I saw this on http://pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/

It looks like it's a new site.

There are two other pictures there. I hope they have many more.

On Edit:

Crap it's not a real picture.  :thatsright:

Quote
Studio Macbeth was established in 1979. We have been creating digital illustration and animation for the entertainment, scientific and advertising communities for for the past 20 years. The focus of our work is realism while retaining a painterly sensibility to light and form. Our medical and scientific work is clearly distinguishable from that of our competitors by its "watchability". Using Hollywood style cinematographic techniques, our visual productions recognize and address the sophistication of the viewer. Our central focus is to embed accurate and detailed science in an artistic envelope. Our entertainment and general illustration and animation work takes a complementary approach to our scientific work. For the general public, we use a scientific approach to our visualizations to create an aesthetic believability. Our goal here is to reclaim some of the painterly artistry which has largely been lost since the advent of computerization.

But it's still pretty cool.

Lincoln was exhumed and the casket was opened in 1901.  Interesting reading.

I remember reading that, in an old magazine a long time ago.

The Saturday Evening Post or Life magazine did a long story, illustrated with photographs of the exhumation, but for the life of me, I can't recall why they did it.  And it was done with a vast audience of residents of Illinois.

I vaguely recall there was even a photograph of the then-long-dead Lincoln, but it was taken from a distance or an angle, and wasn't anything gory.

The only specific thing I recall about the story was that at the time the magazine, whichever one it was, did the story, there was only one person still living, who had been at the exhumation; she had been a little girl at the time.

Old magazines are a treasure trove of information, but damn, one can't remember what where when.

I was looking at that picture thinking, "Wow! That's really good quality for an old picture like that." Then I saw your edit.  :-)

It is still a neat pic.

The link explains what it was all about.  The last person to see the corpse was a 13 year old boy.  He died at 75 in 1963.

Okay, I checked the link; I never thought things like this were on the internet.

Anyway, I was right about it being in either the old Saturday Evening Post or Life magazine.

They fascinate me too, D-Belle.

Frank - the internet has something about almost everything of which you can imagine.  Sometimes when I am in want of mind occupation I will pull up google and search a subject like "Lincoln's body" or "1962 Nash Rambler".  I can be tied up for hours.

Warning:  Never search google images for "golden girls" with the filter turned off.

I use to have a silver 1968 coupe (means "two-door") with port windows in the back.  It looked almost just like the '64.  I loved that car.

Why do chicken coops have two doors?

...because if they had 4 doors they'd be a chicken sedan.  :rimshot:
