There is No Wave

I keep pointing this out, as Nate Cohn observes:
One of the big questions of this election cycle is whether it will turn out to be a “wave†election, like the one in 2010, when an upswell of anti-Democratic sentiment carried Democrats out of the House. One of the best measures of whether there’s a wave is the “generic ballot†question. Pollsters ask: Do you want Democrats or Republicans to control Congress?
Unfortunately, generic ballot polling has been sparse so far this cycle. Last week, however, there were three national polls, by Fox News, CNN and Pew Research, asking the generic ballot question. None showed an anti-Democrat wave, like the one that brought Republicans back to power in 2010. In fact, none of the three polls showed Republicans with a lead among registered voters at all.

You can look at GDP and the president's popularity and the unemployment rate, but the most important early indicators are still polls. And the polls are simply refusing to show a Republican wave victory. It very much looks like more people are going to vote for Democrats in November than Republicans and that the country as a whole would prefer for the Democrats to gain seats, not lose them.
Of course, that happened in 2012, too, and the Democrats didn't win back the House. I am not predicting a positive election for the Democrats. But I see no disaster on the horizon.

1. I think the media needs the story line of disaster
looming for Dems to sell news. A bland election just doesn't sell and disaster for Repubs doesn't get as much attention because "it could happen" thus not news worthy.

2. Expect an October surprise.
You can count on it. They probably have the plans all drawn up at this moment.

Yeah. Sure, slappy.

"Registered voter" polling is virtually meaningless in midterm elections, whether you like what it says or not.

I think it's a toss up as to which side can get the voters out.
I've seen where several of the Senate races up for grabs, there is only a one or two percent difference in the polls.
The Dems are out there now crying that the R's want to impeach Obama to get their base out.
Obama thinks that giving amnesty to 5-8 million illegals is going to help too.
(yeah he is, it was on the news this am)
President Obama is practically shouting from the rooftops that he's about to grant a new unilateral amnesty to as many as six million illegal aliens, but the topic of immigration does not come up in a new op-ed from Speaker John Boehner explaining his lawsuit against Obama for lawlessness.

The sure sign that your political party has trust in their beliefs and can coast from here on in is that they start rumors claiming the other party wants to impeach the prez. That just has confidence written all over it.

My only concern is that there have been no consequences for the blatant vote fraud in a number of "battleground" places from the 2012 election - ALL of it tied to supporters of Da Holy WON of Shitcago. As we all know, when a thug isn't put flat on his ass as fast and as publicly as possible as soon as he makes his move, he's only emboldened to make even more grandiose moves the next time.
So, I fear that - thus emboldened - the supporters of Dear Leader won't even try to hide the vote fraud this November, the limp-dick RINOs will meekly bend over and grab the ankles for their political masters, and another step will be taken in the Fundamental Transformation of America(TM) as faith in the electoral process will be intentionally eroded nearly beyond repair.

I believe that is the only reason why Obama has become so emboldened with his unilateral proclamations. He <<WANTS>> to be impeached, with the hope it will drive Dems to the polls. Claiming GOTV because Obama 'might' be impeached is far less effective than if Obama is actually being impeached.
Its a Hail Mary pass for sure.
