Title: the cbayer primitive shows dear old sweet Lu how to run a thread

Oh my.

Kudos to the cbayer primitive--who's staying at a servant-staffed villa near Rome for the next three months--for showing how a thread in the cooking and baking forum's supposed to be run.

The cbayer primitive now has a brownie point from franksolich for that, and a second one for using the proper term for the evening meal (unless it's a special occasion, which can happen at noon too, in which case it's "dinner").

Buonasera, y'all! What's for supper - Monday, July 21.

I made some amazing meatballs and spaghetti in red sauce.

Someone asked me recently whether italian cooks were just that much better than the rest of us or whether the ingredients are just superior.

I'm leaning towards ingredients these days, as I am cooking some great meals!!

And off the thread goes; it's pretty long, with much chitchattery and pleasantry on it, not least because the cbayer primitive didn't post and run; she stuck around to engage with her audience.

The cbayer primitive, like my good pal Manny, knows what to do, to make a thread lively; the other primitives should observe, and emulate them.

Too many primitive comments to copy-and-paste, and so just these, selected at random:

4. Felice Lunedi!

I'm having more of what I made yesterday. Chicken and pasta in a tomato/cream sauce. Remembered to put in the cheese today.

8. Yum! Hope you have leftovers as it sounds like this would be perfect to reheat.

11. I'll probably be eating this tomorrow and Wednesday as well.

That's what happens when you cook for one and there's 2 1/2 pounds of chicken in the package.

And how appropriate! As I type this, there's a Popeye's commercial on the tube.

12. Mmmmmmm. Popeye's.

They don't have that here, though I've seen a few McD's and Burger Kings.

Do you ever do fried chicken at home? I have never been able to master it.

14. Tried it once, a recipe done with minimal oil but the crust was all wrong.

Anyway, there's one of these about five miles away.

15. Ok, that looks good, but it is mighty expensive.

Fried chicken is all about the crust. I don't think you can do it right without a deep fryer, so minimal oil is just not going to cut it.

16. That's the restaurant menu.

The one near me is carryout only and more reasonable.

The fried chicken recipe I tried was an America's Test Kitchen one. The crust was just too thick, though it tasted good.

18. Well, you know me. I don't think there is any crust that compares with Popeye's.

And certainly not one coming from my kitchen.

Hope you are enjoying July in Chi-town. August will be coming up much too soon.

20. Yes, I know how much you like Popeye's.

Right now it's hot and humid here and I've got the AC on. At least it hasn't rained in several days, for a change. I enjoyed the cool we had last week, good sleeping weather with the windows open. I like it that way.

21. We were in Rome for the weekend and it was really, really hot.

Now back out in the country and it is cool and breezy.

Hope you get some more cool weather before the heat really sets in.

22. Well, there have only been two 90 degree days so far, though tomorrow will be the third.

Right now should be the hottest days of the summer. Tomorrow is supposed to be 90, and back to the mid-70s on Wednesday.

The time I was in Rome was mid-September; hot during the day (but dry) and the nights were comfortable. Nice that it's cooler where you are.

<<<was in Rome in the dead of winter, years ago.  It was uncongested, nice, and cheap.  One should always go to "popular" tourist destinations during the off-season.

Since it's 102 degrees out here--at suppertime!--in the Sandhills of Nebraska, I decided to dine lightly for supper; half a teaspoon of chicken salad on a Doritos chip, and then I was full.

By the way, I'm not familiar with Popeye's--there might, or might not, be some in Nebraska, but I've never been a fan of fast food joints.  I usually just ignore them.  I am however familiar with the chicken strips sold at the convenience store in town, and they seem pretty good to me.

DUmmy Lucinda has been gone for ten days.

She must have a wad of hookworms the size of a softball this time.

Yeah, I am concerned.

<<<has nothing against dear old sweet Lu, excepting that she's s-o-o-o-o-o-o lazy.
