‘Rathergate’ Drives ‘Truth’ Film; Robert Redford To Play Dan Rather, Cate Blanchett To Play Producer
http://www.deadline.com/2014/07/rathergate-movie-robert-redford-dan-rather-cate-blanchett-george-w-bush/
Redford is attached to play CBS News icon Dan Rather and Cate Blanchett is attached to play his producer Mary Mapes in Truth, a film that will mark the directorial debut of James Vanderbilt, the A-list screenwriter behind the first two installments of The Amazing Spider-Man. The film will explore the scandal that erupted after Rather reported on 60 Minutes II that George W. Bush had gotten preferential treatment that put him in the National Guard to avoid the Vietnam War draft. The ensuing scandal during Bush’s reelection campaign left Mapes fired and Rather’s storied reputation in tatters.
SNIP
Mapes, who’d worked in TV news 25 years and won the Peabody Award, was subsequently fired for what the network called lapses in judgment. Strangely, the Bush campaign benefited from the scandal, and exploited Kerry’s military service by getting some of his former soldiers to speak against him. When the current Secretary of State could not win that issue—he served while Bush didn’t—his campaign was doomed. Mapes maintained her belief that the documents were real, and that she and Rather were done in by a right-wing internet smear campaign that put the focus on “Rathergate†instead of the issue of whether the president benefited from his father’s powerful relationships to avoid service in Vietnam.

I predict that this movie is going to do about as well as Redford's movie about the Weather Underground bomber that came out at the same time as the Boston Marathon bombing. This movie is going to sink at the box office. For one thing, the 77 year old Redford looks too old to convincingly play the 82 year old Rather. But with the magic of Hollywood stagecraft and a shitload of moisturizer and caked on makeup maybe they can pull it off.
Whoever invests in this bomb deserves to lose their shirt. What do they hope to show? That George Bush joined the military in order to avoid serving in the military? Go for it, leftists.
The DUmmies think that this movie's time has come and that it's going to do boffo box office.

2. Holy shit...this should be good. I'm STILL pissed over this.
I wonder if Rather is being consulted and has input, hope so!
(I'll read the link now for more details)
I hope that Rather is being consulted and has input too. That will guarantee its failure.

7. I'm curious how this will be portrayed.
Will there be an attempt to portray the documents as authentic, falsified as part of a republican setup, or carelessness on the part of Mapes and Rather?
All of the above, that's how Oliver Stone would do it.

22. Holy hell!
About time the truth comes out. I never for a second doubted the validity of Rather's reporting on the issue. Republican heads will explode over this. I can't wait.

23. This is LONG, LONG overdue!
Glad to see it. I personally never doubted the truth behind it then ... and do not doubt it now.

A special Oscar for democrat underground--that would be the icing on the cake.

They're going to make a movie about a bogus scandal?
Can you imagine all the material that commie Hollywood would have if Obama was a Republican?

Oh yes. The word is, "propaganda."
The left cannot stand to be defeated, They have to win at all times, or they will rewrite history.
-
It doesn't say when it will be released. I'm predicting "right before the 2016 election" to get the BDS-inflicted rabble fired up to vote.
-
I'm sure it will do as well as Micky Moore's Fahrenheit 911. The same group of idiots will go see it.

Mikey made a ton of money off that movie.
In true progressive fashion, everyone else involved in producing it got shafted.

Dinesh D'Souza's new movie AMERICA: IMAGINE THE WORLD WITHOUT HER, just came out.
We can compare who did the best at the box office after 'Truth And Duty' (the actual name of the movie) comes out....

I don't understand the bolded. So the stupid as dirt Republicans were able to steal not one but two elections from the smartest people on the planet AND set them up with documents that were so poorly faked that everyone was fooled but the stupid people? Interesting.

put him in the National Guard to avoid the Vietnam War draft
::)
Yeah. Every time I go to dodge the draft, I end up flying F-102's.
Damn, the bad luck.....
I wonder if Rather is being consulted and has input, hope so!
Yeah,....uh, right. Maybe he'll give you the frequency, you idiot.

Heh! Per IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3859076/), "Truth" grossed just south of $2.5M worldwide as of a year ago. I could not find anything about how much it cost to make, but I have a feeling a lot of Hollyweird investors took a big one for the Prog-team.
And it's DU-folks' fault. Not enough of them ran to see it, and not enough of them saw it 10+ times!

I figured it would do about the same as F-911. Same group of idiots went to see it. Then again... there is not the seething hatred of the left right now like there was back in the Bush days. Libbies get to seething, their money is soon parted from their hands. That and when they go thru drug withdrawal.

:lmao: Look at them all orgasmic up there. "I smell an Oscar." NOBODY cared about this movie, except for a handful of nobodies.
-
The IMDB.com discussion forum for this movie is pretty entertaining, their are moonbats posting there who are stil defending Rather and Mapes.

Well, it was voted best film at the Mill Valley Film Festival ... Mill Valley being in we-wish-we-could-be-in-San-Francisco poshly liberal Marin County.
I know it's not "good form" to necro old threads, but when I looked into how successful "Truth" wasn't I couldn't/wouldn't resist juxtaposing financial reality with DU folks' slobbering enthusiasm for this piece of recycled rotted tripe.
And gloating that the American public who rejected Rather & Mapes in 2004 rejected them again in 2015.
