Oh my.
First up, the vindictive primitive, the notorious re-seller, whose motto is "you've got to be sharp; you've got to cheat the other guy before he cheats you":

A lesson in "go with your gut."
There were only a few yard sales on Saturday, but I think I managed to blow a good find. I've never been a "Kiss" fan and know zero about collectibles associated with them other than some people collect stuff. So I stumbled upon a "Kiss" collection in the original boxes. I checked it over, all made in 2002 and all from China, and decided it wasn't old enough to be worth much of anything since it must have been mass produced. Couldn't get a cell signal to check ebay. When I got home and checked, I determined there was at least $250 worth of collectibles there. And so I raced back to the sale. And they were gone. I was so mad at myself for not taking a chance on it when I first spotted it.
Too bad for the vindictive primitive.

3. Although I'm not in the resale business,
I've learned that I regret not buying much more often than I do buying, even if it turns out to be a 'mistake'. Now I figure that I can always find someone to give it to or an organization to donate it to. It helps that it's never a big dollar amount.

4. That's how I usually think . . . I don't know why I suddenly didn't want to take a chance.
Like you, I always figure the worst case scenario is I would end up donating it to a charity shop.

6. OK, so I went with my 'gut' today. Didn't work.
The charity thrift shop where I worked for the last 3+ years is closing. My hours are gone so today I went poking around. I guess I was feeling badly. Lots of things going on including a death in the family. I just had to get out.
Stopped at a thrift shop to look around. Since I look at everything, my eye caught a very messy bag of jewelry. Note on Bag: "do not open"...$5.00.
Well, since I could barely see inside the cloudy bag, I did the best look-see that I could do. Lots of rings, few chains couple pair of earrings.
Got home, opened bag. AVON....ugh. I'll admit that the rings are decent looking, the earrings are cute, the necklaces are OK but the total value is zilch. Now what the heck do I do with them?
Maybe next time.....
Too bad for the chronically-helpless primitive.

Let me guess...Suddenly that $1.00 piece of junk is a $50.00 deduction at tax time.

Gotta offset those capital gains somehow, lol

The deduction will not help them as they already get an EIC. The deduction would only help those that actually pay taxes.

I find it hard to believe that a DUmmie would donate anything to anyone.
-
Dummies - here's a hint.
If you find an object being unloaded at a yard sale in this day and age, the odds are strongly in favor of the item being worth little more than you paid for it. Occasionally one finds something of value - but most of the time one doesn't.

we've done alright with the facebook trading posts. we got a massive dresser for the kids room for only $40. I'm in the process of putting together a stainless kitchen sink for under $50. got the new sink for $25 and still need to pick up the faucet for under $10, that was all craigslist dealing though.

Heh!
The poor addled old homeless lady, who totters along the sidewalk tugging her little red wagon, heaped high with treasures recovered from devil strips on trash days, talks about white elephants.
Poor confused grasswipe Judy, who uses part of her government addlement pension to rent storage space for her heaps of useless junk, is on the lookout for white elephants for the Christmas party.
The kids of her six generations of descendants sure can't have any of her treasures.
She's going to have some amazing decorations for that pie shop.
