ISIS set to destroy archeological sites in Iraq.
This is long, sad article and all the more sad because there is little if anything that can be done to prevent it. I know that people are more important than things- but man, this is sad.
wait for it...

1. Who exactly is Isis
Is this the new Al Qaeda?
I have long been suspicious about who is destroying Islamic artifacts. I'll never forget when they caught those two Brits in Iraq dressed up as 'Arabs'.
Who wants the history of this region obliterated?
MIHOP!!!!

5. It's a beautiful morning.
I'm getting ready to give a presentation to a large group this evening, on the Iroquois' history of this region. It's being held at a library in a city about 90 minutes away. My younger son is going to be picking me up soon, and I'll be spending the day at my sons' house, before speaking.
I gave the same general presentation at another library two weeks ago; the librarian told me it attracted a record-setting crowd at their 65-year old library. So, either there isn't much to do these days, or people are interested in history.
Part of my message is focusing upon the importance of "saving" historic sites, for the education and enjoyment of future generations. It's something that I worked on for decades, as the top assistant to Onondaga Chief Paul Waterman.
Sometimes I wish that our federal government would consider using the Council of Chiefs as a resource for negotiating with the violent peoples around the globe. It would be better, in my opinion, than the frequent use of military force.
uh... :o

6. Congratuations. I wish I could be there
I am just starting to learn a bit about the Native Americans of this region- in particular the Abenaki peoples.
O-)
AND we are off the rails...

A hundred and forty decades is a closer estimate.

For the self reported smartest people in the world, sometimes they miss the mark. I guess current events is not part of the scoring criteria.

This is the MO of ISIS, they did the same thing in Syria. They sold a bunch of artifacts they stole to fund their operations. The last estimate I read said they had about $2 billion on hand as a result of their pillaging.

Let's not forget that it was Muslims that destroyed the two giant Buddha statues.

Great idea!! Get 'em drunk, sell 'em cheap smokes, then fleece 'em at the craps table!
One problem - How do you keep the Council of Chiefs sober?
Of course, indians (feather, not dot) have a lot in common with other primitive societies around the world.
Booze and mooching off the American taxpayer are universal ideals.

The French just foiled a terrorist plot to destroy the Eifel Tower and the Louvre. Maybe that's what it's going to take for the free world to come together to eliminate this scourge from humanity.
