Oh my.

It looks as if dear old sweet Lu took franksolich's advice and dosed herself with some Epsom salts, to see if that might rid her of the hookworms.  She not only started this thread, but also a second one about something else, which for dear old sweet Lu is a busy-busy-busy day.

What's for Dinner ~ Friday ~ July 4th - Independence Day Edition!

Not sure here. Bill works today so we will probably keep it simple.

Hope you have a wonderful 4th with lots of great food!

I am going to cook them for hours, then serve over gnocchi.

^^^in Italy for the next three months, in case one doesn't know.

4. everybody's holiday

sounds delightful. From Italian specialities to bbqs in the park to strawberry shortcake, it all sounds like fun.

One dish I made already from my barbecuing efforts of yesterday is a steak salad. It consists of strips of flank steak, raw red onion, caramelized white onion, arugala, and green leafy and red lettuce from the garden. I just cut the lettuce and washed it, so it could not be fresher!

The dressing has gorgonzola in it. Lots of peppercorns.

I'll prob'ly make more goodies with my grilling efforts from yesterday. It's fun coming up with dishes. Next up are the grilled vegetables.

^^^must spend six hours a day preparing supper which can be downed in ten minutes or less.

<<<doesn't see the point.

5. All quiet on the Western Front, for now

At least until the folks with guns start firing at clouds (I really hate idiotic my town, can ya tell?).

Whole chicken wings on the grill, classic potato salad, black bean & mango salad/salsa.

7. OK....Dinner for one...ready?

Started with a shrimp cocktail earlier, home made cocktail sauce (incredibly easy)

Caesar Salad, home made dressing (ditto)
Beef Wellington ala Gordon Ramsay, using Filet Mignon
Broccoli & Cheese Casserole
Dirty Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Sauce Bearnaise (Gonna use a packet, even though I have the ingredients to make it fresh)
Red, White and Blue Shortcake later on. Got the Strawberries and Blueberries macerating as we speak. Fresh whipped cream.

Gin & Tonics and Beer along the way.

9. I slow cooked baby back ribs.

I made cilantro potato salad and pulled some greens out of the freezer. Yum!

On edit: I made some really good BBQ sauce a few weeks ago. It topped off the ribs wonderfully

10. Just back from dinner.

Fried chicken, hash brown casserole (with cheese!), deep-fried onions and salad. I am full.

Hope that everyone is having a great 4th.

<<<unlike the great aunt, didn't gluttonously pig out on supper.

It's hot here today, and so had three 1" chunks of watermelon with toothpicks attached, which was enough.

13. Erm, turkey.

I know, I know, wrong holiday. But we've had an extra small one in the freezer since thanksgiving, so we decided we ought to use it.

Tried something new, popped it in the crock pot on a bed of sliced apples with a can of chicken broth and a quick coating of honey mustard and maple syrup, and let it stew for seven hours.

The flavourings didn't do much; it basically came out just tasting of turkey, but it was more fall-apart tender than any turkey I've had before, and less dry over all, so we'll probably start cooking the Thanksgiving ones in future that way, since it also frees up the oven for sides and desserts.

That is the best food. Cooked under flame. Good enough for the cavemen, good enough for me.   :cheersmate:

Me? Had all the family over. We hit all the food groups. Meat, fowl, and pork cooked on the grill. Taters, corn and rabbit food. Beer.

I'm worthless the rest of the night.

Freedom. Freedom is for dinner, you DUmmie asshats!

I had pizza, philly cheesesteak, and a few other things. For dessert, I ate a calorie bomb known as "That's My Jam" core ice cream.  :-)

I make it a rule to never eat something that you can enclose in quotation marks.

That's almost as bad as random capitalization.

"fresh Shrimp"

"home-cooked Meals"

"meat-and-Three plates"

My brother served up burgers and hot dogs.  Lots of potato salad and fruit salad to accompany it.

There were twenty-six people, most of them friends of the property caretaker, over here yesterday (Friday) for a cookout, and plenty of chow.  (And beer.)

But because it was so hot, and because I'd eaten lunch earlier and didn't want to stress the system, I just swiped three pieces of watermelon from a fruit tray.

Then later we all drove to town to watch the fireworks.

Looks like it was just another gut bomb for the fizzgig primitive.

Washed down with gallons of the cheapest beer on tap, garnished with a half-smoked bud of Colorado Kush.

fizzy spent the end of the evening annoying her cat, Budd, sing-songing "Bud, Budd?" and giggling, over and over again. Meanwhile, Mr. fizz was sexting that gal he's banging on the side.

What are primitives even doing celbrating the 4th? They are hell-bent on trying to gut the holiday in the first place, and damned if they haven't been successful the past few years.  I could care less what food that their food stamps EBT cards got them.

I saw a DUmmy quote somewhere yesterday that I'd love to relocate.

I read over it and forgot to go back and grab it. Don't even remember if it was at the DUmp or Twitter or some other DUmmy blog.

Anyway, it really summed up the democrat understanding and appreciation for America.

It said that on July 4 we celebrate our ancestors getting in those tiny ships and heading out into the unknown.

Went to a parade in farming community, lots of fire trucks, tractors, ATVs, horses and a blue million American and rebel flags....not a democrat in sight. Then the wife made cheeseburgers and went to another rural community for 45 minutes of great fireworks....and not a democrat in sight.

Oh, and climate change was wonderful....82 for the high with a breeze and low humidity....same today. :-)

Yep, same here. Made a pasta salad and some fruit salad too and voila. Dinner during the summer should be far more simple then the cold months when one is stuck inside more(at least up north) and has perhaps the time to ruminate over and prepare elaborate dinners when the outside is inhospitable.

Summer is for enjoying the outside and keeping food simple and quick.

Don't get some of the elaborate fare over in dummie land. Again, overthinking everything and trying to outdo one another. Odd how so many disability recipients can afford such highfaluting living. shrug. Maybe it's just the rich snob dummie hypocrites who eat like that.

I made North Country firehouse chicken, with pasta salad & corn-on-the-cob.  It was fantastic.  I'll drop the recipe in the Edibles section.
