Casselberry mom refused to take child to hospital over vegan beliefs
http://www.clickorlando.com/news/casselberry-mom-refused-to-take-child-to-hospital-over-vegan-beliefs/26657244
CASSELBERRY, Fla. - A Casselberry mother was arrested on allegations of refusing to take her newborn, diagnosed by a doctor as dehydrated, to a hospital because of her staunch vegan stance.
Sarah Anne Markham was arrested Tuesday on a charge of child neglect.
According to Casselberry police, a pediatrician told Markham that her baby needed to be admitted to Florida Hospital South for treatment because the child was dehydrated and was losing weight.
Wow, put her extreme vegan belief above her child. Talk about selfish! I wonder what her DU name is. :mental:

What is the vegan position on breastfeeding?
If breastfeeding is permitted, just how shitty would vegan breast milk taste?

High 5 Big Dog, excellant observation, what were her boobies there for but to feed her baby ?
So the mother was a vegan by her beliefs, so are the crazys that put their religious beliefs before the life of their child.
When a belief causes harm to another, it is better to have no belief then one that causes distruction to others.

Hello! Saline solution isn't vegan? There aren't vegan baby formulas available? I'm not going to bother going there, but if a search on VegSource.com didn't yield at least a couple of commercially sold vegan baby formulas and multiple from-scratch recipes, I'd be amazed! And no, I'm neither vegan nor vegetarian.

What is the vegan position on breastfeeding?
From my time on the homeschooling boards on VS, I'd say vegans would be of the, "If you can you should," view, and if some one said they could not at least some vegans would ask nosy questions. Back in 1999-2001, VegSource's homeschooling boards were the busiest homeschooling discussion site on the Internet. Unless it's revived very recently, those boards are like ghost towns.

My friend, that would be a morally inconsistent view. Breast milk comes from animals.

Trying to remember what I was told about baby formular from grandmother before the days of commercial stuff.
First steralise glass bottles in boiling water. Cool and add Carnation can of milk, add a pinch of salt and sugar, boiled water and some other things, place on ice and when baby was hungry put a full bottle in hot water to heat it up to a point that when when put it on a wrist the mixture was warm.
Some time in the 50's an electric bottle warmer came out. --------With my 3rd baby I found out the hospitals were giving the new borns formula that was COLD, no need to heat up the formula babys did just fine on warm or cold.
So my friend Big Dog, we are all animals that feed the young with breast milk ? There is a reason there are no tits on a boar. No lips on chickens or fingers on a horse.

Ummmm.... what?
Humans are animals. We are mammals; we are primates; we are hominids, specifically Homo sapiens.
Human breast milk comes from animals.
If vegans believe that food, clothing, or medicine from animal sources are immoral, then morally consistent vegans would oppose breastfeeding.

Well, no, because the human mother can make a conscious choice to do it or not. Of course this answer applies if the reason for the person's vegan or vegetarian beliefs is based on "Ethical" treatment of animals, and does not apply if the reason is because of some fundamental, boogah-boogah-science-based, objection to animal protein in any form.

Tell you a short story about Nam. I worked with some nurses that served in the war, they saw it all. At some point the black market began to smuggle in baby bottles and formula to the "working girls" They could not ply their trade if they had a baby on their breast.
The rate of death to these babys went sky high, the water or the bottles themself were not clean, and the babys died.
Those that survived and were placed in American hospitals also had a high death rate, they were fed on a diet they could not except as most were lactose intolerent and most foods they were fed had some kind of cows milk, cheese or what ever their bodys could not adjust to.
The nurses bitched that these children needed to be fed rice, fish and the vegetation of their area. Once off the breast they normally would live with no lactose of any kind. Few listened to the Nurses or Doctors------

Both types of vegans exist. "Dietary" and "ethical" vegans each insist they are the "real" vegans, and the others are not.
As for this vegan, give me a thick, juicy bacon-wrapped steak, sharp Cheddar cheese, mashed potatoes with bacon, sour cream, and lots of butter, Toll House cookies, and a jug of ice-cold milk!

Tell you a short story about Nam.
Vesta, dear, what does your secondhand story about Viet Nam have to do with vegans breastfeeding?
Were the Vietnamese prostitutes vegans?
-
Can I say something here, the problem with fanatical vegans, is that they don't eat properly.no dairy no meat, no eggs. If a mother is not eating well herself, the baby will not get enough nutrients. Babies(especially newborns), need calcium, provided by milk, breast fed or not. They need nutrients, that dairy can offer.

My point Big Dog was that when something that is natural is corrupted by others and found to kick out the common sense of what is and replace it with ideas of others that go against nature, no good can come of it.
Were we meant to be vegans humans would have teeth of a camel or cow. We would be fit to eat hay, but we were developed with our jaw and teeth to eat to eat darn near anything we could catch.
These woman who could not survive taking off a couple of years to feed naturally their children had no choice but to take when offered the new idea of bottle feeding. AND THE BABYS DIED.
We in the USA so safe for generations have no idea of war, the things a female will have to survive for her and her children.
Those woman had no choice but to feed themselves and children but by selling themselves to survive. This was a hero's act
a natural act to save their children from starvation.
Selling ones body is an act of desperation, even at my old tired age if the choice between my grandkids starving and I willing to go along with rape , darn I would put on my high heels and feather boa to keep them fed.

EXACTLY!!! Dumb dumb dumb selfish people

I'm in! But I'll go with chocolate milk.
I think the self-styled vegans are incredible frauds, they aren't really from another planet within this solar system, let alone the distant star Vega.

That recipe would get you a nastygram from the moderators on VegSource, vesta (yes, they really were that persnickety!). Despite the name, Carnation canned milk comes from cows, not flowers.

Way back when cows milk did not suit , goats milk was used to feed baby's.
Plenty of cross breed animals feed other species. Seems that breast milk from most any species do nourish others outside their species.
Romulas and Reamous were said to have been fed from a Wolf, as are the photos of children suckling off of camels in the middle East.
When a human found they for some reason could not feed their child themselves, a wet nurse was brought in, a female that had lost a child but had plenty of milk to feed others.
Today we have breast milk banks to store mothers milk for the baby's that need it. Expensive--you bet but when a child's life is on the line, who gives a hoot about money ?
