Oh my.

Day 13 of dear old sweet Lu not doing her job, and so a drone had to do it for her.

What's for Dinner, Fri., June 20, 2014

1. cube steaks

Mashed potatoes, brown gravy, sweet peas, whole grain rolls. Gonna fry up the cube steaks and then simmer them in the gravy. The mashed potatoes are going to be instant, but when you cook for seven adults, you cut the corners you need to cut. And the rolls are from the bakery down the street, but I don't bake or use the oven during the summer if I can avoid it.

3. Waves alloo

Antipasto & garlic bread, I think.

We have a great selection of marinated goodies to choose from, and it's hot enough to want something light.

4. More of the Italian sausage/pasta concoction I made yesterday.

Salad.

It's hot and muggy and miserable here today, so in the manner of greataunt, franksolich decided to dine lightly, and elegantly.

First, a large Sevres china plate carefully covered over with a Claessens linen napkin, on top of which I placed a cherry with stem still attached, and a pretzel.

^^^supper this evening for franksolich.

[does not include 46-ounce jug of V-8 vegetable juice I drank too.]

5. Chicken roasted over garlic, carrots and corn.

Twice stuffed baked potatoes.

Simple, classic stuff.

Ugh.

I'll have another baloney sandwich.

Fizz lives on leftovers and government cheese.

I wonder why she's in the cooking forum every day.

6. Mu Shu Pork

Congratulations, Galileo, on your ovens!

Today we had workmen in and I got a new storm door going out of my utility room, which is just off my kitchen.

Lots of yard work done by them, too. Tree branches, lawn mowed, etc.

Judy grasswire hasn't reported in yet, but I suspect she's having her usual, and is right now frying sliced carrots on the range.

Wow, that is one of the most normal sounding meals that I've seen from a DUmmie.

In case one needs reminded, which one probably doesn't, it wasn't that long ago, pre-Lu, that threads in the cooking and baking forum got seven replies in five minutes.

7. A roasted chicken

cooking over a steaming mass of lovage, tarragon and chives from the garden. I'm scrambling for sides, pretty much ran myself out of vegetables, I've got one giant bell pepper and some celery I'm gonna serve with blue cheese dip. I'm also making a cranberry rhubarb sauce with lemon mint simmered in it. Too much lemon mint. Turns out a couple of leaves would have been fine, I didn't need a whole stalk.

I have another $15 in kmart points built up ready to blow on vegetables, but I don't want to spend the gas to drive there for that (17 miles round trip) and it was raining today. If the weather's nice tomorrow I might bike over and stock up again. Biking might be good, my bunion's a bit sore from running 5 miles yesterday - the first 5 mile run I've done in probably 30 years.

How do you sauté a leaf?

How do you sauté a leaf?

I have a more interesting question.

This is something, probably a kitchen implement, that's owned by a primitive.

What the devil does one suppose it is?

Yeah, I know, but I thought you were kidding, pulling my leg, joshing me.   :-)

It's some sort of accupressure massager.

So.....I take it that it has nothing to do with cooking and baking?

Well, another enigma.

That white oval-like thing strapped to the ample waist.

It looks, vaguely, like one of those stand-up air deodorizers one finds in finicky women's home bathrooms (the same sort of women who put carpets on the lid of their commodes), but I can't think of why one would wear an air deodorizer.

It's a mosquito repellent gadget from Off. Works pretty well.

Earlier there was a photo of Big Mo wearing one.

I'll be damned.  It looks like one of those Glade plug-ins.  Maybe that one runs on batteries.
