Title: DUmmie cali moans about something then attacks everybody responding
Post by: Billiam Pitts on June 17, 2014, 03:32:39 PM
cali must be off the wagon or off her meds or maybe this is her natural state but she's been bitchin and moaning about every little thing. Something tells me she is not long for this DUmmie world. Haven't checked her transparency page lately but I'll bet she is teetering as always. Also, "Fun with Femenazis" in this thread.

On Being Called a "Girly-girl"

Last edited Tue Jun 17, 2014, 02:16 PM - Edit history (1)
A few weeks ago, my son took me to see Ray LaMontagne perform. It was an awfully nice thing of him to do and we had a good time. In the car, on the long drive home, we were talking about this woman he's been involved with. Apropos of I'm not sure what, he said: "Well, you don't really understand her. She's not a girly-girl like you.

My initial reaction to his comment was umbrage and knee jerk denial.

A few days later I was at home trying on a funky vintage dress with new to me used shoes I'd just bought for a happy song from someone on Ebay and I started laughing- at myself. And then I started thinking about why his remark had offended me.

When you hear the term girly-girl, I think it's safe to say that you don't think "tough, smart, capable woman". More likely you think pink frills, manicures and frivolous.

I have never had a manicure. I loath frills- on cushions or clothes, and though I can certainly be frivolous, I consider myself fairly intelligent. I can argue politics as well as anyone. I love hardware stores almost as much as vintage clothes and rearranging stuff in my home. I read voraciously- and not romance novels. I'm athletic and physically pretty damn strong.

My son knows all this so I don't think he meant to imply that I'm not smart or strong.

If he meant to say "you're interested in things that are considered feminine pursuits, he's right. I love playing with clothes, for example- though my fingernails are (at least in spring and summer) rimmed with stubborn garden dirt and I think manicures for me would be a complete bust.

So on rethinking it, I'll own the girly-girl label. But only if I get to define what it means.

1. Terms that reinforce gender norms are harmful.

Kids should know they're free to wear what they like, style their hair how they like, and participate in playtime activities they like, without the idea that these things are either 'girl' things or 'boy' things.

5. I disagree. I think carrying it too far is harmful. I'm a feminist

and have been for a long time. So gay folks shouldn't use the word queer because that has had negative associations and reinforces an "image".

I'm a feminist. I'm an individual. And no ****ing one controls my use of language but me. That doesn't preclude avoiding words that offend a given group of people. I choose not to do that, but frankly, I'll define myself as I wish.

Period.

I hate that it's normal to call grown women 'girls'.

10. I am. Personally I hate it when someone refers to their husband as "hubby"

so what? and the term "girly-girl" isn't quite the same as being called a girl.

Again, I'll decide what my lexicon is and I damn well won't let society or anyone do it for me.

11. Why the hell did you post this if you are going to get shitty when others post THEIR opinions?

Seriously, WTF is your problem?

20. I'm not talking about "image". I'm talking about kids feeling like something is wrong with them

if they like something that's "girly" or "macho" or whatever. They're stupid, meaningless terms and they cause actual harm.

But hey, whatever floats your boat. No need to get all aggro about it.

25. you are never going to entirely eradicate kids feeling like something is wrong with

them. and when purging language I think it behooves us to proceed (most of the time) carefully.

And sorry, I'm not "aggro" about it (don't like that word) I just don't like zealotry.

29. Your response to me was definitely aggro.

And it's not zealotry, it's progress.

Gender norms are bullshit. And just like those who said 'oh you'll never stop bullying', those who now claim that we'll never get rid of gender conditioning will see that their complacence isn't shared by all. Thankfully.

He's a strong man?
He's a manly man?
He's a girly man?

I really don't see the problem.  They are all adjectives that describe what type of man the person is.   :-)

Yep, there is a reason "gender norms" are called norms.  They are what is normal, not some leftist fruitcake ideal. Why does being normal get their panties in a wad and have them clutching their pearls? :-)

Well, yet another primitive goes on franksolich's list, for being disrespectful to a superior primitive.

The redqueen primitive's always been on the list, but now I've added the PeaceNikki primitive, who's quite a chub in addition to being disrespectful towards fellow primitives brighter, better than her.

I saw nothing wrong with Cali's original piece, but I knew the feminazis would come down hard on her.

And I've got no problem with that either.  I'll say "hey girls how are you?" to a couple of 80 year olds, if I'm good friends with them.

And the headache thing?  Me too.  So ****ing tiresome.

Another kernel of truth has inadvertently slipped through the cracks there. Unintended to be sure, but there it is. What the DUmmy really means is:

"Terms that reinforce norms are harmful."

And of course evidence of this belief being held, is over there on the island in such quantity that you can't take three steps without tripping over it.

Thats rich.

Coming from a poster at a website, and a member of a party and belief system, which support  defining the lexicon for all of society.

I'd say unbelievable, but it really isn't.

Is there any word in the English language these pretzel brains don't turn inside out to mean something bad?

I swear, all they do is sit around trying to conjure up something to argue about.  :catfight:

Screw that! No parent in their right mind teaches their kids to think like that. Boys play boy games and girls play girl games. Many times they end up playing together, but it's like hide and go seek or something like that. When the girls decided to play with their doll sets, USA4ME and his friends who were boys had no desire to participate. And the girls didn't want to throw the football or baseball around. And we all were just fine with that.

redqueen needs to have her face slapped off.

Eva has gone from a somewhat attractive but stoned out 60s carny girl to a 80s lunatic and now a vile, bitter old burned out hag.

Yeah, liberalism is such a happy lifes journey.

It is a constant competition over there to see who is (1) the most offended by something and (2) claim the moral high ground in any discussion because of it. Cali's OP and the responses to it are a prime example.

I frequently refer to the other three guys in my foursome as "ladies".

And a putt left two feet short often results in a congratulatory "Nice putt, Alice."

These people are offended at every turn. How exhausting.

When being deliberately offended leads to handouts and attempts to reshape the world to ones advantage, the term "professionally offended" applies.

The professionally offended never sleep, which means we need to sleep even less.
