well, i narced out my tenant. leaving the kids home alone while she works.
not a bad person. a home health aid. single mom with 2 sweet boys.
works the graveyard shift and has gone through several roommates to have someone there while the kids are sleeping.
but i know that she has no one now most nights.
then she comes home and sleeps, while the 5 yo is stuck in the house with the shades down.
and she has had the gas turned off since march, meaning no hot water and no cooking gas. i have tried to hook her up with some help, but she is pretty, well, not working it.
microwave cooking, period.
plus, she is just not a good mom. i try to get her to let the little one hang out with me, and she just wont let him.
so, of course, the usually not there roommate turned out to be home tonight when i called the cops to report them home alone.
but she backed me up, and told them that she was leaving at 6, and mom did not get off till 7.
they said they couldnt do anything, but i made it clear that i expected to see the there at 6 am.
sarge is still sitting in front of the house, tho, and talking to dcfs.
fun times. great to be a property owner!
A good progressive would have cut her rent in order to help the less fortunate...

It's too bad about the mom, but she sounds pretty irresponsible in some ways.
Hope the kids get into a better situation.
But, Calpeg, she isn't. She called the police. She didn't volunteer to watch the kids at night until a solution was found. SHE CALLED THE MAN!

3. i am quite attached to them
it is a family building, 4 and 5 br.
i knew that would be the deal.
and i just took to this little 5 yo right away. i really rented the place to him.
but i knew heads would be a buttin sometime.
somewhat grateful that we made it through a whole year.

the are on the waiting list for a sec 8.
i would be happy to do this. but i tell ya, what an archaic agency.
we got bounced when we tried to enroll our other unit, over missed appointments, even tho i live 2 doors away.
talked to another 2 flat owner who had the same problem, and lost a tenant.
that is why the waiting list is so f'ing long.
Ah... now we see the real reason. Mopinko is trying to get her building into section 8 status to rake in the big government buck. Sure... "It's for the children!"

i have no desire to see her lose her kids taken away. it is a borderline thing.

and with summer coming i am afraid those kids will be alone when she is home.

mopinko was especially taken in by one of the two boys; she thought he was cute (in the normal sense, not the perverted sense).
I wonder if these are the same tenants.

i really was hoping they will just step in and shake some shit lose for her. esp now that all kids get full day kindergarten in chicago. (thank you, you ****er rahm. )

and i tried to help her. i talked to the alderman for her, and she struck out on the first referral, and gave up. i told her to go to his office, and tell them who she was, and they would hook her up. no.

17. there is no way this gets foster care. i had no fear of that.
i knew there was no way the system was going to get into this very deep. but one thing we are having trouble with is the transparency of the systems. she is on the sec8 wait list, but we cant find out where. if we are least had a clue if she was close to the top of the list, we could get the apartment up to cha's ridiculous code now.

You were alleging serious child neglect -- that the children were being left alone overnight -- in one case a five year old, and the prevailing wisdom is that unless the other child is in junior high or older, they're probably too young to be considered adequate babysitters. Also the fact there was no hot water is a serious child neglect issue.
If you didn't expect anything to happen, why'd you make the report? Because you could have accomplished more, and in a kinder way, by saying "The next time I'm aware that your children are unsupervised at night, or if you don't get the gas turned on in 10 days I will have no choice but to file a report. In the meantime, you can bathe the kids at my house, and here's the number for the LIHEAP program and the application to help you get your gas restored. I'll be happy to sit for your son while you go to their office and meet with the alderman."
As their landlord, I'm aware you can't be their social worker.
But unless you are a mandated reporter and were concerned about liability for delay, and have been willing to make these contacts in the past, the above offer seems good as a last-ditch plea before invoking child protective services. And then the report could show also that she'd even refused to do anything after your attempt, or became hostile, etc.

You disgust me. Others have already elaborated on the same thoughts I have, but honestly, you suck. You suck at being a human being. Somebody who really cared about those kids, as you've claimed you do (I call BS), would try to HELP, not bend over backwards to destroy her family. And you didn't just call the cops ONCE, you hounded them after they showed up and you were SO DISAPPOINTED that her roommate was actually there at the time. Wanted them to wait or even come back later. YOU WANTED HER BUSTED, BY GOD.
You have issues. You're nosy and vindictive, and have just done those kids immeasurable harm. If you really did care, you'd work to get her help, not work to destroy her life. You clearly lack any ability to empathize with her situation,which sounds excruciatingly difficult. You should be completely ashamed of yourself.

Of course she wasn't going to have a problem with her conscience. They have had an agreement for many years. She promises her conscience that she won't bother it if it promises not to bother her.

eta- people who think i might be gonna do something weird with those kids, wtf, projection, or what. it the most recent case it was a matter of the kid going in while mom slept, or helping me in my garden. someone to talk to him.

this place is adjacent to my pocket farm. she, like the rest of the kids in the hood, is welcome to hang out there, but never does, and never lets them.

chicago pd is the entry point for most child services. what i did was ask to check on the children, who were home alone.
really, i wasnt being a yahoo. i could have called the hot line, but that would have allowed for she said she said she said.
cpd is great at this sort of thing, and with something like this, no bruises or broken bones, you need this kind of investigation of the complaint in real time, not 2 months from now when dcfs sends and overworked caseworker to look in the fridge, and see that things are clean, and dismisses it.
this is the system here.

The jury (in DU terms) is still out on this. Either Alex is a mole, or there is some ulterior motive. Otherwise I will have to adjust my attitude towards libs and DUmmies in particular that they are capable of having decent thoughts and the courage and conviction (and heaven forbid intolerance) to voice them.
Not saying I disagree with the Big Dog whose instincts on libs I have found to be impeccable.

I just remembered something. When I was 10 years old, my mom, dad and 2 sisters left me home alone to look after the cows/farm for the weekend once while they traveled a couple hundred miles to see a very sick aunt. Good thing El-pinko wasn't around.

Those children need to stay with their mother who is probably struggling to do the right thing as by as much as she can, and you want to throw these kids to the hell that is the foster care system?
Also, depending on the state, but most states use the rule that if there is someone 10 years or older in the home, they are considered capable of caring for those younger than them who reside in the home.
Who the hell made you the person in charge of this family? And, instead of trying to break them up, why are you not finding a way to help them, if you think they need assistance?
And, the person who said that the mother is obviously irresponsible (that would be CaliforniaPeggy who said that right at the start), obviously has no heart about the family, the kids, and absolutely no grasp of what it's like to be a single mom doing the most she can.
Live in absolute need and struggle, and then speak to what this single mom is doing to raise her family. Unless you have seen it, experienced, you know nothing about living on the edge of being homeless with kids.
Also, mopinko, you really need to learn how to write.

441. first of all, this 2 flat is the mainstay of my retirement
and my own kid lives up stairs.
if something even happened.....
so, it is my business, this was explained when they moved in.
and honestly, i welcomed them as members of the family, and they were happy to hear that.
the kids have been told, repeatedly, that if they ever need anything i am right there. i hope they would be able to take advantage of that, but knowing these kids, they would never get out of a fire alone.
but they have no phone in the house.
i have some legal liability here, if anything ever happened. not that this had anything to do with what i did, but it is the truth.
and really, i think i said pretty clearly in the op that i tried to get some help for her. i also got a bawling out from the alderman for not having prevented this in my lease. and for putting up with a lot of other shit that has gone on. landlords in chicago, actually, legally, have a LOT of responsibility for illegal behavior on their properties.
obviously a year long story doesnt make it into an op.

The kid goes to school, then he doesn't, then he goes in the morning. The police came and "bawled her out but left the kids. I have no desire to see her lose her kids." "She is short, but she also makes dumb decisions." Appointments are hard. My brain is coming apart. This short story does not end well. Final sentence: "From the locked closet door came a faint scratching and a tiny voice pleading, "Grandma ... please, Grandma, I promise I want to hang out with you in the garden, I'll be good ... I won't watch public television ever again, I swear ... Grandma?"

She's pissed that the rent & gas bill aren't being paid on time. If she doesn't get the money on time, she wants them out, except for the 5 year old boy she is obsessed with. All the carrying on about him while the 10 year old is an afterthought is very revealing. She wants mom & brother out of the picture so he can stay with "grandmother".
When people ask her why she is meddling in other people's lives, she reveals more details of her meddling as proof that she's doing the right thing. She really has no idea how weird all of this is, IMO.
The OP is among the saddest and most disturbing I've read on any forum.

Okay, that's it.
I've had it with the primitives.
Big Mo is a primitive of the highest order, a primitive of prominence, a primitive who's been around since God was a boy, a primitive with a long and established track record of true primitivity.
There's very few primitives of as high a calibre as Big Mo.
And here we got all of the other primitives hating on her; second-rate, third-rate, fourth-rate, fifth-rate primitives, nearly all of them primitives of no prominence, nearly all of them part of that faceless lynch-mob, the nonentity lumpenunterprimitiven.
They aren't good enough to shine Big Mo's boots, much less criticize and condemn her.
I don't agree with Big Mo on this issue, but that's not what I'm looking at.
What I'm looking at is a lack of respect for one of the top primitives on Skins's island, by primitives much less than Big Mo is.
From here on out, any primitive who is less than adoring of Big Mo goes on franksolich's shit list, until they learn to respect one of their betters.

I was somewhat shocked to see the DUmmies pull out the race card on each other. It was so smooth it was almost seamless. The have had a lot of practice pulling it on conservatives.

The problem I have is this: Skippy's a primitive, and in fact one of the most far-left primitives possible; he makes Kim Jong-on or Idi Amin look moderate. It's obvious he was brain-washed about the time he first went away to college.
Also, Skippy can be rather silly and juvenile at times.
However.
If this were drunken Bill or Atman or MrsCorpio or the defrocked warped primitive, I wouldn't care.
But as a human being, Skippy has some value to humanity, and if something bad's going to happen to a primitive, best it happen to a primitive who has no value to humanity, of which there's lots.

Just the first wave's over; the second, harder, one's expected to get here circa 3:00 a.m.
Lots of wind, lightning, and rain.
Surprisingly, nothing went out.
The lightning was odd; it was incessant, uninterrupted. Not even half a second in between each flash. It was continuous. I'd shut off all the lights in the house, but the endless lightning lit up the interior as if I had dozens of 100-watt light-bulbs around.

Well now, I'm trying to be Christian here, believing that no one is beyond redemption.
"Believing" and "knowing for a certainty" are two different things, and while this Pollyanna tries very hard to find something good in primitives, at the same time I know it's a futile search.
But hope one must, even if it turns out only one primitive out of the millions who voted for the Big Zero. Surely there's at least one, somewhere, although in blunt truth, after all these years, I haven't found one.
But look, I must. One's Christian conscience compels it.
